J C Ritchie, age 82 of Orangeville, passed away on March 18, 2023 J C was born on August 6, 1940 in Hazard, Kentucky the son of Green and Rhoda (Terry) Ritchie J C grew up on the family’s potato farm He later worked for Hartford Homes and then Borroughs Corporation, retiring in 2006 after 30 years of employment He was an avid guitar player and he enjoyed playing pool and farming cattle J C will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather J C is survived by his wife, Janet (Swain) Ritchie; children: Teresa (John Madden) Banas, Tammy (Larry) Drewyor, Jay Ritchie; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; siblings: Margie Blauvelt, Betty (Bill) Bourdo, Bobbie (Vicki) Ritchie; Mike (Susan) Ritchie; sisters in law: Sandra Crane, Linda Ritchie, Cora Ritchie; several nieces and nephews J C was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tracie Holden; siblings: Kenneth Ritchie, Welzie Ritchie, Mavis Rasnake A celebration of life will be conducted at a later date Private burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery Memorial contributions to Wings of Hope Hospice will be appreciated

Mrs Pamela Mary Brown passed away Wednesday, the 15th of March, 2023 Pamela was born February 5, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois She was the daughter of Rita Roberts and Simone Joseph Condet On January 18, 1972 Pamela married her soulmate, a soldier named George Earva Brown To this union three children were born George Earva Brown Jr, Simon Arthur Brown, Tamara Ann Brown-Kellum (married to Timothy Kellum) She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother and sister Her brother Regis is survived Pamela and George had a loving marriage full of love and family that lasted 51 years She was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother “Mom”, as she was affectionately known as to all her grandchildren, Jordan A Brown, Mikayla Lillian Kellum, Timothy Nicholas Kellum, Zachary Andrew Kellum, Allyiah C Slack, Gabriella N Brown, Akeila A Brown Mom loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins It gave her great pleasure to toss a ball or watch them play in the backyard The children all learned to ride their bikes at mom and pappas house These memories will be cherished by the whole family Previous to marriage, Pamela studied dance at El Camino college in California She enjoyed time with her family as well as knitting sewing macrame and many other crafts From quilts to her young children’s cloths Pamela would make it all Pamela will be missed by her many friends in Plainwell and family from across America May she be at peace as she was loved by many Following her wishes, cremation and a private service has taken place

Michele Lynne (Nichols) Laws, age 72, of Bangor, Michigan, passed away at her home on Friday, March 17, 2023 She was born on March 2, 1951, in Allegan, MI Michele grew up in Otsego, MI where she met the love of her life, John H Laws and married him on October 21, 1967 She had 5 children: Travis Laws Brandy Laws Desireé (Ken) Stamper, Max Laws, and Aaron Laws; 7 grandchildren, Cherish, Desiray, Tiffany, and Jordyne Marshall and Taylor Colton and Skylar Stamper; and 2 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her father, Max Nichols and her baby sister There are not enough words to describe how much she will be missed; from her bright blue eyes to her strong will and fighting spirit Michele spent most of her life devoted to taking care of others Throughout her life, she opened her home several times to those that needed a safe place She cared for her grandchildren from the time they were infants to the time they went to school and beyond You could always hear Michele singing a lullaby that she had made up for each child You would probably catch her outside, barefoot, watching her children and grandchildren playing and making memories in the yard; as that was one of her favorite things to do Michele also enjoyed doing puzzles, playing Scrabble, card games, crocheting, sewing, and rearranging the living room each week She loved cooking and always made enough to feed an army During her time as Captain of the Allegan County Mounted Division Auxiliary Unit, she spent fair week making sure all the men and women had a hot, home cooked meal before their patrols She made the Christmas spirit come to life with decorations and baking cookies and other sweet treats Michele was always there to help with homework, life, advice, and anything you needed her for She will be deeply missed by those near and dear to her heart Per her wishes cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held at this time The family would like to extend a special thank you to Centrica Care Hospice team for taking such great care of her over the last year

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise him from the skies! Psalm 148:1 Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who welcomes my messenger is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming the Father who sent me.” John 13:20
REFLECTION: The Psalmist begins by praising God for the creation of the heavens and sky. What a wonderful, positive way to start a day! However, there are those who are godless by nature and snarl at a new day. They see it as another dreadful start to hours filled with strife and tedious work. There is hope! Jesus welcomes those who welcome Him. Anyone who welcomes Jesus, accepts God. When we acknowledge the beauty of God’s love and appreciate Him for creating life, our hearts change. The truth is, when we contemplate God, the Author of Life, we find no reason to despise Him.
PRAYER TIME: Praise You Lord Jesus! You have given me new life from the dead. You have shared with me your “one way love”. It came down from heaven and opened my heart and mind to the truth about God the Father. Praise You Jesus. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

WHO WALKED WITH HIM”

The one thing that sustained our Lord and His ministry on earth, especially during His last days on earth, was His closeness to His Heavenly Father. This fact is documented by the gospel records. In John 10:30, Jesus said, “I and the Father are one.” Again, in John 14:10, 11 we read, “I am in the Father and the Father in me.” It is a fact that our Lord’s closeness to God was one of the reasons His enemies tried to destroy Him (John 19:7).
It is amazing how Jesus could voluntarily walk to Jerusalem knowing what lay ahead. Even more amazing is that we can live with that same confidence in our walk with Christ. Let’s take a closer look
1.WE CAN WALK FAITHFULLY.
Jimmy Carter was our nation’s 39th President, serving from 1977 to 1981. He is our oldest living former President. Like him or not; respect him or not; agree with him or not; there is one irrefutable truth about him. He is a man of faith.
Now, in the twilight of his life on earth, we marvel at how he lived his faith to make the world a better place. His many accomplishments sprang from a heart of love for God. Little mentioned is the four decades he spent teaching a Sunday school class in his home church.
When I was growing up in Sunday school I had some loving and dedicated teachers. They will never be known by many, but they helped shape my faith.
My point: We may never live out our faith on the world stage, but each of us have our own sphere of influence where we can help shape the faith of others.
2.WE CAN WALK HOPEFULLY.
The late James W. Moore was a renowned United Methodist pastor and bestselling author. He told the story about a woman who was a long time Sunday school teacher. One day she received an unexpected letter from a young man who was in the hospital. It read, in part, “You probably don’t remember me, but I visited your Sunday school class while staying with my grandparents in the summer of l978. You were kind to me and because of you I became a Christian. My faith is important to me, especially now that I have been diagnosed with cancer…” She did not remember the young man but looked back into her 1978 diary which read, “We had a visitor in class today. He was a handful… I sat beside him and gave him some extra attention. Don’t know if I did him any good or not.”
To walk hopefully with God is to sow seeds of kindness and leave the results with God.
3.WE CAN WALK LOVINGLY.
I have mentioned the loss of my late friend, Father James O’Leary. I am inspired by his witness which was included in his vigil service folder. It reads as follows:
“To do great deeds in life is not enough. We must be great people… In a word, we must be good at ‘loving.’ Loving is the power we have to be most like God. In the end, I think our lives will be measured on the quality of our human relationships. This is where we must put our energies and efforts. At the end of our lives we will see clearly that everything else is piffle (Nonsense).”
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to walk faithfully, hopefully and lovingly with You all of our days. In Your strong name. Amen.
