from loss of circulation his left leg was amputated above the knee He didn't let it slow him down and resumed operating heavy equipment
November 2022 he was admitted to Bronson Methodist Hospital with severe pain in his right foot He under went 3 surgeries to open his arteries to no avail His right leg was amputated November 28th The doctors were able to secure a bed for him, at Mar y Free Bed hospital for rehabilitation
However it was denied by his insurance and he was sent home a week after the surger y Eddy is a fighter but he needs our help We thank you in advance for helping him meet his goals

That night and the following mor ning, you faded so fast, with life depar ting hours after we shared a favorite meal, and suddenly your mellifluous voice was silenced Your dulcet tones were soon replaced by the concer ned calls for help and medical assistance As the emergency first-responders did their best to revive you, and calm me, I stood rooted in disbelief and near catatonia Somehow your energy persisted and provided the means to remain engaged as our world shifted uncontrollably on its axis The frenetic life-saving activity grew and inexorably concluded without success, but somehow I sensed you were still there, a good and gentle guiding energy sur viving the tumult
Recalling the trauma is still almost too challenging to type as a tearful waterfall obscures my sight, and I find myself adrift on that sea of grief In shock and battered by waves of both sadness and denial, I remembered how you laughed at my awful jokes and impressions Even after your depar ture, your love has rescued me from the emotional abyss The fog of despair has cleared exactly as on that early summer day when the newly emerged sun evaporated the tenacious marine-layer of clouds when we were married, outdoors in that Japanese garden in Long Beach Thinking back on your playful angelic spirit, I feel an overwhelming gratitude for our beautiful life together, and for the many adventures we created together Your encouragement and endless devotion to our effor ts in the perfor ming and visual ar ts despite my consistent shor tcomings and ego problems, was a hallmark of our creative life together Even after your depar ture, your memor y is the instrument of my healing, and enables the energy that per mits me to reassemble the seemingly endless shards of our shattered life together, and eventually to make whole my broken hear t
As friends and neighbors gathered to provide comfor t, they validated that feeling, and said to look for signs of her continuous presence Long lost family and friends from far away echoed this, and before long, good things seemed to happen Echoing footsteps, familiar creaks in the house, the dogs responding to her as they did before, and the local birds providing a backdrop as well, culminating in a large group of cardinals, which I'm told are special in these circumstances A feeling of comfor t ensued later, and I am grateful for your most welcome loving energy that allowed me to bring my music back to life You have been a true gift from God, and I have always felt it
I am grateful for all of the things we have done and accomplished together, and I know that you have been an angel sent from heaven, and perhaps the saints simply missed your playful creativity up there These expressions of gratitude and remembering may somehow initiate my recover y, but I'm submerged too deep in grief over your loss to know for sure Faith and the spirited interaction with the suppor t of friends and family are the lifeline for each day as we travel far ther down the timeline from this difficult par ting As the trauma fades, the memories of things we did together, enriching our lives by our mutual suppor t, remains Sometimes, I find it helpful to think of life in four dimensions – the three spacial dimensions, plus time Memories are the expression of this reality, and incor porating those, loved ones are always with us, living on at infinite time points along the way, enhancing the magic of life in this world I am proud, humbled and honored to have shared the majority of our timelines here on Ear th, and am forever grateful for you and your beautiful spiritual energy

Dwain Allen DEBACK AGE 86 - SOUTH HAVEN, MI Dwain A DeBack, “Butch”, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in the care of Hospice, Englewood Florida He was born on May 2, 1936 in Kalamazoo, MI, the only child of the late Lawrence DeBack and Eileen DeBack, (nee) Hendrickson Butch graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1954 He played the trumpet in band and played for the Dick Forsman Band in his spare time He joined the U S Navy, serving on a destroyer, the U S S Ault, patrolling the post Korean War Mediterranean Sea Upon his return stateside he married the love of his life, Wanda Geschwendt and took employment with the local newspaper, The Kalamazoo Gazette, in the stereotype department Together Butch and Wanda raised their family, first in Kalamazoo and later in the country near Otsego where they started a Christmas tree farm Their love was tested when they lost their son Dennis in a tragic motorcycle accident in 1978 All who knew Butch knew how this impacted him tremendously Butch retired from the Gazette in 1991 and Wanda convinced him to winter in Florida, where he loved to fish on his boat Summers were spent in South Haven, MI visiting family and friends Although he enjoyed Florida, his heart was always in Michigan Butch was a sports enthusiast his entire life His support of the Detroit Lions and Tigers never failed Many weekends the neighbors in South Haven were treated to his rendition of the Michigan Fight Song on his trumpet He was especially proud of his grandchildren’s athletic endeavors and rarely missed their volleyball and soccer games Growing up in a hunting and fishing family Butch enjoyed feeding his family the old fashioned way This outdoor tradition he passed on to his daughter and grandchildren Butch and Wanda accumulated many wonderful friends along their journey together His friends knew his sense of humor was unparalleled and stayed with him until the end He always believed that a person should be valued by the number of friends they have, not by the size of their wallet He was a rich man by these standards Butch will be missed by all who knew him, but especially his wife of 64 years, Wanda, his daughter, Vicky Lynn, and his loving grandchildren, Dana, Dominic, and Dakota, and his beloved cousins Memorial Donations may be made to South Haven Hospice at Home, South Haven, MI A memorial service is planned for this spring at Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, MI, on June 10, 2023

REFLECTION: The Book of Acts tells us how the Gospel of Jesus Chr ist began to spread throughout the wor ld In Acts 10:30-31 we read a stor y of a man who was a Roman commander named Cor nelius, a Gentile The word Gentile descr ibes any person who is not Jewish He is a God fear ing man who is always praying and was full of good wor ks and deeds He most likely was being taught by new Chr istians One day while Cor nelius fasted and prayed, he received a vision from an angel of God telling him that his prayers had been heard What makes this stor y so profound is that God uses a Roman centur ion to expose and expand the message of Jesus Chr ist to persons in ever y countr y around the wor ld While Cor nelius was praying he saw an angel with clothes glowing br ight This makes me think of when Chr ist’s br ight and glowing gar ment was on display while he was with his three disciples on the mountain top (Matthew 17:1-3) The angel delivered the message that Cor nelius was to travel to Joppa to meet a man named Peter On the same day, and at the same time, Peter was also praying and he had a vision Acts 10:15 But the voice spoke again: “Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean ” The same vision was repeated three times Then the sheet was suddenly pulled up to heaven After these two men meet, the wor ld is never the same
PRAYER TIME: O Lord God of heavenly beings, I pray that you give me strength and gladness as I go about my wor k today When I gather to worship this coming Sunday let your holy splendor shine in me In Jesus’ Name, Amen

I, along with hundreds of others, wrote letters of appreciation to the rector Much to my sur pr ise, my b r o t h e r i n C h r i s t a n d c o l l e a g u e i n m i n i s t r y, responded to my letter less than two weeks following the funeral I was even more sur pr ised and humbled when I received another letter from him in November of 2022 telling me he had quoted my letter in his book!

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released a new National Broadband Map
Since high-speed internet is not available to nearly half a million homes in Michigan, we are continuing to urge every Michigander to check their home and business address on the preliminary broadband map to ensure it accurately reflects their level of internet access Our office is working to challenge the map too, but it’s impor tant for everyone across the state to know how to view and challenge the map
Here’s how to access the FCC broadband map:
Go to https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/ Type in an address and see if the repor ted coverage is accurate You can access the site from a computer or a mobile device
Residents can submit a challenge by clicking “Location Challenge” if the location of their home or business is missing or incorrect, or “Availability Challenge” if the internet service information is incorrect
Residents should visit the website of any internet service provider that claims to serve their location and use the website's "Check Availability" or similar tool to determine if the provider can serve their location If they can't, a screenshot of their website can be submitted to the F CC as evidence for an Availability Challenge
The FCC also allows local governments, tribal governments and other stakeholders to file bulk challenges for multiple locations on behalf of their communities Governmental entities can access the underlying broadband serviceable location fabric that forms the foundation for the address locations on the map
Our team is encourag ing consumers, communities and any others with a stake in broadband availability to submit challenges to the FCC map if a discrepancy is found Having an accurate federal map will ensure that Michigan receives its equitable share of federal funding to achieve universal broadband availability for all Michiganders To ensure an accurate map is used for funding decisions, all challenges must be submitted by January 13, 2023
