EDITORIAL Em 2017 o Clube Naval do Funchal festejou 65 anos de história, que fazem deste clube uma das mais emblemáticas instituições sociais e desportivas da Região Autónoma da Madeira, com sólido reconhecimento e notoriedade nacional e internacional. Ao longo de todo o ano procurámos assinalar a efeméride com várias atividades e eventos, com destaque para o Jantar/Concerto do artista nacional Miguel Araújo, no dia 30 de Abril, e para o lançamento do novo website do clube, com um design mais contemporâneo e com menus de acesso mais funcionais. Esta nova plataforma estabelece hiperligações às redes sociais Facebook, Instagram e YouTube e apresenta uma agenda de eventos onde pode consultar todas as atividades do clube. Os conteúdos do novo website do CNF são também compatíveis com tablets e smartphones. Continuamos a melhorar os diversos espaços do clube. Na sede social, renovamos o campo de futebol e a esplanada do bar assim como as diversas salas. Durante o verão, abrimos o “Choka Bar” como oferta complementar ao final do dia de praia, com festas temáticas e sunsets. No Complexo Desportivo da Nazaré, estamos a proceder a obras de remodelação na sala de musculação e renovamos a sala de Pilates. No Naval Studio Pilates encontra um serviço de acompanhamento personalizado de acordo com os seus objetivos. A nível desportivo tivemos 521 atletas federados em 2017 distribuídos pelas modalidades de Vela, Canoagem, Windsurf, Pesca, Surf, Stand Up Paddle, Natação, Judo e Karaté e procedemos à renovação dos equipamentos dos atletas com nova imagem e patrocinadores. Em termos de grandes eventos organizamos pela primeira vez o “Madeira SUP Challenge”, na modalidade de Stand Up Paddle que integrou uma etapa do Campeonato Nacional de SUP, e a “III Conferência Europeia de Mergulho Científico”, que pela primeira vez teve lugar em Portugal. Em Outubro organizamos a quarta edição do “Madeira Ocean Race” e o “Madeira Island International Swim Marathon” nas modalidades de Canoagem e Natação de águas abertas. No “VI Congresso Internacional – O Desporto e o Mar”, realizado em parceria com a Universidade da Madeira no dia 27 de Outubro, foram apresentados os dois primeiros projetos comunitários ao abrigo do Programa de Cooperação Territorial INTERREG MAC 2014-2020, nomeadamente o Ecotur_Azul e o Nauticom. Neste evento foi ainda apresentada a Regata Madeira 950 Open Race, que estará na região durante uma semana no próximo mês de Julho após largada de Livorno, Itália. No dia 15 de Dezembro, realizamos uma Gala de Natal onde cerca de 40 pessoas ligadas à história e atividade do clube nas mais diversas áreas foram homenageadas. Entre sócios, dirigentes, treinadores e atletas foram entregues prémios divididos em cinco categorias, nomeadamente, prémio “António Aragão”, “Guilherme Escórcio”, “Francisco José”, “Naval do Ano” e “Américo Durão”. O evento assinalou o encerramento das festividades do 65.º aniversário. Terminamos o ano com a entrega de cabazes solidários às famílias mais carenciadas do Complexo Desportivo da Nazaré, uma iniciativa que desenvolvemos desde 2011, uma vez que enquanto instituição de utilidade pública não poderíamos ficar indiferentes à realidade da comunidade envolvente. Ao longo das próximas páginas poderá fazer uma visita guiada um pouco por todas as áreas do clube e ficar a conhecer toda a dinâmica do Clube Naval do Funchal.

III CONFERÊNCIA EUROPEIA DE MERGULHO CIENTÍFICO A III EDIÇÃO DA CONFERÊNCIA EUROPEIA EM MERGULHO CIENTÍFICO TEVE LUGAR PELA PRIMEIRA VEZ EM PORTUGAL NOS DIAS 22 E 23 DE MARÇO DE 2017 NUMA ORGANIZAÇÃO CONJUNTA ENTRE O CIIMAR-MADEIRA, A ESTAÇÃO DE BIOLOGIA MARINHA DO FUNCHAL E O CLUBE NAVAL DO FUNCHAL.
Esta terceira edição reuniu, na sede social do CNF, 75 participantes, de 12 países distintos, nomeadamente

Croácia,
Inglaterra,
Espanha, Finlândia, Itália, Estados Unidos da América, Grécia, França, Alemanha, Montenegro e Bélgica. O objetivo foi promover um fórum internacional de relevância, no sentido de dar destaque aos resultados que têm sido atingidos através do uso do mergulho científico enquanto ferramenta de

O evento que decorreu ao longo de três dias, contou com a participação de vários especialistas e investigadores da área, sendo os convidados de destaque Bem Ford especializado em Arqueologia Marítima e Histórica da Universidade da Pensilvânia e o Fernando Tuya professor da Universidade de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. I MADEIRA SUP CHALLENGE
O Madeira SUP Challenge é uma prova internacional de Stand Up Paddle que se realizou a primeira vez na Madeira no mês de Março. O evento contou com o apoio da Federação Portuguesa de Surf e da Associação Regional de Surf da Madeira e integrou uma etapa do Campeonato Nacional de SUP, onde vimos consagrado Tomás Lacerda, atleta do CNF como campeão nacional de Sub-16. Foi também realizada uma prova de 13 km, entre a baía do Funchal, Quinta Calaça e Reserva Natural do Garajau, proporcionando excelentes paisagens aos participantes de toda a orla costeira da cidade. Participaram 60 atletas, entre eles a campeã nacional da modalidade e medalha de bronze do Campeonato Europeu de 2016, assim como uma atleta da Seleção Nacional Espanhola desta modalidade. A segunda edição terá lugar entre os dias 7 e 11 de Março, na baía do Funchal. O evento será composto por um programa de 4 dias de atividades, entre passeios pela baía do Funchal, workshops, atividades turísticas, bem como pelas duas grandes provas do evento, uma Maratona de 12 km e um Race Técnico de 5 km nas classes 12´6, 14´e All Around.

IV MADEIRA OCEAN RACE O IV MADEIRA OCEAN RACE REALIZOU-SE ENTRE 5 E 8 DE OUTUBRO COM UM PROGRAMA DE QUATRO DIAS DEDICADO AOS 70 ATLETAS PARTICIPANTES DE CINCO NACIONALIDADES DISTINTAS. Brasil, Espanha, França, Itália e Portugal foram os países presentes nesta prova que contou com Carlos Perez Rial, Medalha de Ouro em JO Pequim 2008, e Nicolas Lambert – França – Atual Campeão Francês de Surfski.

CANOAGEM OLÍMPICA PARA TODOS! Numa iniciativa de inclusão social, foi desenvolvida paralelamente ao evento uma atividade de aproximação dos utentes dos Centros de Atividades Ocupacionais da Secretaria Regional de Educação e alunos de 2º e 3º ciclo da Escola Horácio Bento Gouveia, com os Olímpicos do K4 da seleção nacional – David Fernandes do CNF, João Ribeiro no SL Benfica e Emanuel Silva do Sporting Clube de Portugal. CALHETA – RIBEIRA BRAVA – FUNCHAL No dia 7 de Outubro cumpriu-se a primeira etapa entre a Calheta e a Ribeira Brava num total de 12 km, sendo que no dia 8 foi realizada a segunda etapa entre a Ribeira Brava e o Funchal, num total de 16 km.

VI CONGRESSO INTERNACIONAL O DESPORTO E MAR: PROMOÇÃO DO MAR DA MADEIRA Sob o tema “Promoção do Mar da Madeira” teve lugar no dia 27 de Outubro no Auditório do Colégio dos Jesuítas mais uma edição do Congresso Internacional – O Desporto e Mar. O evento contou com a participação de várias entidades públicas e privadas na sessão de abertura, nomeadamente a Secretária Regional do Ambiente e Recursos Naturais, Susana Prada. A Secretária Regional sublinhou no seu discurso a importância de apoiar associações desportivas e incentivar os jovens à prática de mais desportos náuticos para que possam eventualmente seguir carreira nestas áreas e retirando melhor partido de todas as oportunidades do mar. O Reitor da Universidade da Madeira, José do Carmo, enalteceu o trabalho do Departamento de Educação Física e Desporto, focando o empenho na investigação e na importância de os jovens defenderem as suas ideias e projetos neste tipo de iniciativas. Já a Presidente do CNF apresentou no seu discurso todo o trabalho do CNF em termos de projetos e eventos náuticos desenvolvidos ao longo do presente ano e apresentou alguns dos eventos que o clube levará a efeito em 2018, nomeadamente a Regata Madeira 950 Open Race e a XX Regata
Internacional Canárias Madeira. Rodrigo Moreira Rato abriu o 2º painel, sob o tema: “Mar, Investimento e Financiamento” apresentando os relatórios de imprensa e o impacto mediático da Volvo Ocean Race, evento pelo qual é responsável em termos de comunicação. Ana Lima, jornalista com especialidade na comunicação e marketing desportivo, apresentou à plateia os vários benefícios que os eventos náuticos incutem nas cidades, nomeadamente no alojamento e comércio local, dando como exemplo a Tall Ships Race em Sines. Carlos Lopes apresentou várias formas de concretizar as ideias de negócio apresentando os incentivos de apoio ao empreendedorismo e ao financiamento para novos projetos na área do desporto e o mar. Mário Bonança, Técnico de Natação do Comité Paralímpico, apresentou a sua tese de mestrado sobre a disciplina de Natação em Águas Abertas no final do 3º painel, depois dos docentes do Departamento de Educação Física e Desporto da Universidade da Madeira, Rui Trindade, Ana Rodrigues e Catarina Fernando, terem apresentado os resultados do estudo de investigação sobre as Atividades Náuticas na RAM e o perfil dos jovens praticantes destas modalidades. A sessão de encerramento contou com a presença do Vereador João Pedro Vieira, que não poupou elogios ao evento e ao contributo deste para a cidade do Funchal. O evento terminou com um cocktail convívio no Hotel Florasol.

PROJETO ECOTUR _ AZUL
No âmbito do VI Congresso Internacional – O Desporto e o Mar, foram apresentados os dois primeiros projetos comunitários Mac 2014-2020 do clube, nomeadamente o Ecotur_Azul e o Nauticom. ECOTUR_AZUL O Clube Naval do Funchal integra desde Janeiro 2017, junto de parceiros de Canárias e Açores, um projeto comum inovador ao abrigo do Programa de Cooperação Territorial INTERREG MAC 2014-2020. Este projeto tem como objetivo principal a valorização do potencial ecoturístico das áreas costeiras e marítimas, nomeadamente o património natural, cultural e paisagístico, criando novas oportunidades de crescimento azul. O CNF faz assim parte de uma rede internacional de cidades com excelentes recursos e serviços náuticos, que além de apresentar uma ótima oferta a nível da cultura, gastronomia e paisagens naturais pretende, com a adesão a este projeto, incrementar as potencialidades desta cidade, certificando o Funchal como cidade Odyssea e a Marina como porto Odyssea. O Ecotur_Azul foi apresentado no VI Congresso Internacional por Regis López Lang, especialista e delegado da Europa – América Latina – Caribe – Odyssea 2020 Crescimento e Turismo Azul, que explicou aos presentes as características deste modelo inovador e dinâmico, que pretende igualar o acesso à informação e comunicação dos diversos produtos de cidades e de portos europeus e do qual a cidade e a Marina do Funchal farão parte. O modelo Odyssea“, é um modelo europeu de desenvolvimento territorial sustentável que valoriza o potencial económico do turismo costeiro, as rotas culturais marítimas e as atividades inovadoras na navegação de recreio, através de uma rede de instalações costeiras inovadoras e de antigas rotas marítimas”, conforme foi mencionado pelo mesmo. Este modelo comum e inovador, que foi criado em 2008 e reconhecido pela Comissão Europeia como sendo uma boa prática para o desenvolvimento sustentado dos territórios marítimos, define o projeto Ecotur_Azul, ao qual o CNF se juntou como beneficiário FEDER e representante da cidade do Funchal, junto com beneficiários das Canárias e da Horta (Açores).

Do Município de Grândola, compareceu o Dr. Alcides Bizarro, cujo tema foi ‘Turismo náutico no Alentejo: o impacto territorial do referencial europeu Odyssea’ e do Município de Silves compareceu o Dr. Francisco Luís, que apresentou a temática ‘Odyssea Luso Andaluz – o potencial de desenvolvimento do turismo náutico’.

1. COMO DIRETOR DE COMUNICAÇÃO DA VOLVO OCEAN RACE COMO CARACTERIZA ESTA QUE É A MAIOR REGATA DO MUNDO DE VELA DE CRUZEIRO? É um evento desportivo ímpar, em primeiro lugar porque é 100% detido por uma marca, Volvo, depois porque toca nos quatro cantos do mundo, levando os tripulantes e os barcos aos limites da resistência, obrigando a um constante trabalho de equipa, tanto para as equipas de mar como de terra, é também o mais longo evento desportivo regular, tem 9 meses de duração. Por todas estas características, é procurado pelos melhores velejadores, é e usado como plataforma para marcas ligadas à náutica e outras “aparentemente” sem ligação. É uma competição que reinveste todas as receitas na promoção e divulgação da mesma, garantido assim uma legião de fãs que em muito ultrapassa os fanáticos da vela, senão vejamos, o canal do YouTube tem mais de 100.000 seguidores, no Twitter são cerca de 94.000, no Instagram são cerca de 165.000, no Facebook mais de 1.245.000 e no LinkedIn mais de 15.000, isto levou-nos a criar conteúdos diferenciados para cada plataforma, para

Na classe Raceboard, completaram o pódio João Rodrigues, Alberto Rodrigues e Bruno Fernandes do CTM e na classe Laser 4.7, o pódio foi conquistado por navalistas, onde em primeiro lugar ficou Tomás Sousa, em segundo Carolina Matos e em terceiro Pedro Abreu. Quanto à classe Laser Radial (Abs.), foram realizadas seis regatas, onde o navalista Alívar Cardoso, do CNF, conquistou o excelente segundo lugar do pódio. Em primeiro lugar ficou Pedro Baltazar e em terceiro Vasco Caldeira da ANM. Por fim, na classe 420, o primeiro lugar foi conquistado pela dupla navalista João Ferreira e António Ornelas, em segundo lugar Ricardo Quaresma e Francisco G. e em terceiro a dupla Santiago Vilalobos e Tiago C. da ANM. Antes da cerimónia de entrega de prémios, que se realizou no Posto Náutico de São Lázaro, nas instalações do Clube Naval do Funchal, a Presidente navalista Mafalda Freitas dirigiu algumas palavras, agradecendo aos atletas, aos clubes participantes, à equipa de juízes de mar e a todas as entidades presentes. Por último e não menos importante, ainda agradeceu todo o trabalho realizado pela equipa da modalidade de Vela do CNF, como também ao Comodoro Martim Cardoso, à Vice-Comodoro Ângela Figueira e ao coordenador de São Lázaro, professor Hélder Santos, finalizando com o desejo de bons ventos para toda a época desportiva. Posteriormente o Vereador da Câmara Municipal do Funchal, Domingos Rodrigues, aproveitou para felicitar as iniciativas inclusivas que o clube tem vindo a promover indicando que “são muito importantes para a nossa sociedade”. Por fim, Rubina Leal, Secretária Regional da Inclusão e Assuntos Sociais, que também esteve
presente na entrega de prémios, afirmou que “Mais uma vez o CNF promove uma competição inclusiva e que é muito importante para aqueles que são diferentes de nós e que tiveram a infelicidade de nascer com algum tipo de deficiência. Existem atualmente cerca de 400 utentes dos centros de atividades ocupacionais, em que têm disponíveis e praticam à volta de 20 modalidades desportivas”. Finalizou felicitando o CNF não só pelos 65 anos de vida que comemora, mas também pela dinâmica que o clube tem desenvolvido, em relação à aposta nos desportos inclusivos. Na cerimónia de entrega de prémios também estiveram presentes David Gomes, Diretor Regional de Juventude e Desporto, Nuno Sousa Pereira, Capitão do Porto do Funchal, Luís Balau, representante da Robbialac, e Ana Sousa, Presidente da Associação de Pessoas com Necessidades Especiais.

No ano em que o Clube Naval do Funchal celebrou 65 anos, foi com grande satisfação que foi levada a efeito, no dia de Portugal, a mais antiga competição de vela de cruzeiro realizada na Região e que proporciona aos velejadores uma das melhores experiências desportivas da época. A IX Regata MEO – 3ª Prova da Taça da Madeira de Cruzeiros e o V Troféu Miguel Viveiros tiveram lugar no dia 10 de Junho num campo de regatas compreendido entre Santa Cruz e Machico, com a primeira boia de rondagem em frente à Marina da Quinta do Lorde e a segunda boia no Ilhéu Chão junto às ilhas Desertas num total de 29 milhas. Ricardo Franco, Presidente da Câmara Municipal de Machico, relembrou que “este é mais um evento que se realiza na cidade e que tem sido apanágio desta Câmara Municipal e também dos parceiros que o compõem.

A Regata das Desertas, como é mais conhecida entre os amantes da vela, é a competição desportiva mais antiga que o Clube Naval do Funchal (CNF) organiza. Segundo Jorge Sequeira, Diretor Comercial da Pt na Região, “estão reunidas um conjunto de condições e entidades, que confluem na organização desta regata e que ano após ano tem sido um sucesso. É também uma forma privilegiada de contactarmos os nossos clientes e demonstrarmos os nossos produtos e os nossos serviços”. As competições terminaram com a cerimónia de entrega de prémios que decorreu no Porto de Recreio de Machico onde foram consagrados os seguintes vencedores.

VI REGATA RIM
Madeira – Porto Santo
Entre os dias 13 e 15 de Agosto teve lugar a VI Regata RIM – Madeira – Porto Santo, uma das mais emblemáticas Regatas de Cruzeiro que marcam as férias de todos os madeirenses no Porto Santo. Com o patrocínio da RIM Construções pelo 6º ano consecutivo e com o apoio de um conjunto de parceiros, nomeadamente Associação Regional de Vela da Madeira, Clube Naval do Porto Santo, Câmara Municipal do Porto Santo, Brisa Maracujá, Copo Vinhos e Hotel Vila Baleira, a apresentação pública teve lugar nas instalações do Clube Naval do Porto Santo, na presença dos vários representantes das instituições afetas à organização do evento. A largada da primeira etapa teve lugar no dia 11 de Agosto, pelas 20h00 ao largo de Santa Cruz. Com ventos favoráveis entre 10 e 15 nós do quadrante Noroeste, saíram rumo ao Porto Santo nesta primeira etapa, com uma distância aproximada de 31 milhas náuticas, as embarcações Alf, Medeta, Happy Hour, Bombay, Aye, Red Ruth, Hzmm, Alquaholic, Swing e

Frederica Devonia. Pelas 23h, o Iate Swing já havia tomado a liderança tendo percorrido metade do percurso. Foi no entanto ultrapassado pela embarcação Frederica Devónia que chegou em primeiro lugar à ilha dourada pelas 02h45. Seguiram-se as restantes embarcações que foram chegando ao longo da madrugada, tendo a última chegado por volta das 05h40. Após um merecido descanso os velejadores tiveram um almoço convívio no Hotel Vila Baleira, onde foi realizada uma entrega de prémios simbólica aos vencedores de cada classe.
Na segunda etapa, com ventos entre os 10 e 15 nós e mar ameno, todas a embarcações chegaram à ilha da Madeira ao final do dia 15 de Agosto. A entrega de prémios decorreu no dia 7 de Setembro antecedendo a tradicional Festa Branca no Clube Naval. Num ambiente leve e descontraído, foi entregue o terceiro prémio aos representantes da embarcação Bombay, seguido pelo segundo qualificado, a embarcação Swing, e terminou com a grande vencedora da Regata, a embarcação Frederica Devónia, de Lourenço Cardoso, do CNF. 4ª EDIÇÃO | FEVEREIRO 2018

COMPLEXO DESPORTIVO DA NAZARÉ
VII TORNEIO CIDADE DO FUNCHAL Foi com uma enorme satisfação e orgulho que o CNF organizou novamente em 2017 o Torneio Cidade do Funchal, torneio este que desde a 1ª edição conta com o apoio da Câmara Municipal do Funchal e visa, não só manter o nível competitivo entre os atletas da modalidade da natação, como também promover o desportivismo entre os jovens e os clubes e envolver a cidade do Funchal com o desporto. Esta edição contou novamente com uma equipa convidada, desta feita SG Neuss da Alemanha, que trouxe uma comitiva de 22 atletas. É de destacar a presença de Aaron Schmidt – Campeão Nacional nos 1500 m livres Juvenil A e nadador da seleção alemã, e ainda Cedric Büssing – Campeão e Recordista Nacional Alemão dos 200 m costas. Estes atletas vieram à região não só enriquecer o nível competitivo das provas, como também partilhar conhecimento com os mais novos. Além desta equipa, o evento contou com a presença de 230 nadadores de 10 clubes: Associação Desportiva de Machico, Clube Desportivo do Nacional, Clube Desportivo Recreativo Santanense, Clube Desportivo São Roque, Clube Escola O Liceu, Clube Sport Marítimo, Juventude Atlântico Clube, Ludens Clube de Machico, a equipa alemã SG Neuss e o Clube Naval do Funchal. O CNF teve também a honra de receber o seu antigo técnico, Ivan Abreu, que veio pela primeira vez à região como treinador da equipa alemã. Neste sentido, o CNF prestou uma homenagem em forma de agradecimento e reconhecimento, pelos seus contributos dados em prol da natação do clube, durante os anos em que trabalhou connosco.

Foram realizadas provas nos seguintes estilos: Livres (50, 100 e 200 m), Costas (50, 100 e 200 m), Bruços (100 e 200 m), Mariposa (100 e 200 m), Estilos (200 m) e Estafetas (4x50 m estilos e livres). Quanto aos pódios, foi entregue um total de 162 medalhas e 200 medalhas de participação aos cadetes que marcaram presença na competição. A entrega foi feita por Juan Gonçalves, em representação da Direção Regional de Juventude e Desporto, Duarte Caldeira, Presidente da Junta de Freguesia de São Martinho, Avelino Silva, Presidente da Associação de Natação da Madeira, e por Bernardo Soveral, Vice-presidente do Clube Naval do Funchal.
Quanto à parte da tarde, foi reservada a um festival para as escolas dos clubes. Para este efeito foram realizados circuitos com 4 estações: *Partidas; *Técnica de Nado; *2 Estações de obstáculos. Este circuito foi de grande diversão para os mais pequenos que participaram. No fim foram entregues diplomas de participação. Durante o dia, sensivelmente a partir do almoço e durante a tarde no polidesportivo do clube, houve animação com os tradicionais comes e bebes sendo que todo o dinheiro adquirido, através da venda de comidas e bebidas, foi revertido para o apoio do departamento de natação do CNF.
O VII Torneio do Funchal foi organizado pelo Clube Naval do Funchal e contou com a parceria da Câmara Municipal do Funchal, a Direção Regional de Juventude e Desporto, a Junta de Freguesia de São Martinho e com a Associação de Natação da Madeira. Também contou com o apoio da Bioforma, da Empresa de Cervejas da Madeira e a Crepes Delícia.

COMPLEXO DESPORTIVO DA NAZARÉ
II BATALHA NAVAL Integrada nas celebrações do 19º Aniversário do Complexo Desportivo da Nazaré, a II Batalha Naval, seguindo o exemplo do ano anterior, marcou pelo sucesso da parceria dos vários serviços do Clube Naval do Funchal, como o Ginásio AquaGym, a Naval Box e o Complexo das Piscinas. Composta por um conjunto de jogos dinâmicos, divertidos e desafiadores, este ano contou com várias provas de perícia e estratégia, aliadas ao exercício físico e com grande foco no trabalho de equipa. Os jogos que contaram com a participação de 16 equipas mistas compostas por 4 elementos (dois femininos e dois masculinos) consistiam em finalizar todas as provas, divididas em 8 estações, distribuídas por todo o complexo. As equipas, que eram compostas tanto por utentes do AquaGym, como por staff técnico e sócios do Clube Naval do Funchal, começaram em simultânea a prova nas diferentes estações conforme as diretrizes fornecidas a cada uma delas, no início da mesma.
Entre corrida à volta do complexo, ao transporte dos colegas de equipa a nado numa jangada, passando por pescaria dentro da piscina, tiro aos patos e galinha dos ovos de ouro, terminou, como não poderia deixar de ser, com um churrasco de porco no espeto, no exterior do complexo, seguindo-se da entrega dos prémios às equipas vencedoras e o partir do bolo de aniversário. Este ano, teve como vencedora a equipa liderada por Ricardo Rodrigues com os impressionantes 985 pontos. Foi um evento marcado pela diversão, pelo convívio, pelo fair play e pelo espírito de equipa. Um evento excelente impulsionador da aproximação desta grande família que é o Clube Naval do Funchal. E termina com a promessa de se superar na 3ª edição, que é já para o ano.

GoFlo veio preencher o leque de oferta do ginásio oferecendo um treino diferente e original no mundo do fitness, pois trabalha o corpo através da suspensão, promovendo um aumento da força e da resistência do utilizador. AQUAGYM BIKE CLUB No dia 5 de Novembro, 10 elementos do AquaGym Bike Club, núcleo de sócios e utentes que realizam passeios de bicicleta ao ar livre, fizeram 47 km num agradável passeio de domingo. Com saída de Poiso, descida até ao Santo da Serra, Levada da Serra completa até o campo do Nacional e terminando com uma descida até ao Funchal a equipa apresentou o equipamento oficial que tem o apoio da MZ:Bike.
CORRIDA SÃO SILVESTRE Aquagym no TOP 15 da São Silvestre Foi no 28 de Dezembro que a cidade do Funchal voltou a ser pista de corrida para mais uma São Silvestre, uma das provas de atletismo mais populares do país num total de 5.850 m. Como não podia deixar de ser, o Clube Naval esteve presente com a equipa CNF/Óptica da Sé que desde 2013 participa nesta e em todas as provas do calendário regional de atletismo, bem como algumas nacionais. Rebecca Sousa foi a primeira feminina da equipa CNF/Óptica da Sé e David Fernandes foi o primeiro nos masculinos a cortar a meta, sendo o melhor atleta desta equipa. Ricardo Rodrigues foi o instrutor do AquaGym com melhor resultado. Henrique Araújo foi o vencedor nos Juvenis e Filipe Araújo nos Juniores, tal como Isabel Teixeira nos femininos. Nos Sub23 Joana Abreu foi a melhor, enquanto que nos Veteranos 35 André Spínola e Mónica Silva foram os primeiros da equipa a cortar a meta neste escalão. Bruno Menezes e Licínia Macedo venceram nos Veteranos 40, e nos Veteranos 45 foram Patrícia Dantas e Ricardo Melim que tiveram os melhores resultados. Nos Veteranos 50 Eusébio André e Dalila Perneta foram os que se destacaram, e João Botelho no escalão Veteranos 55. Arlindo Freitas e Mendes de Almeida foram os melhores da equipa nos Veteranos 60 e 65, respetivamente. Estes resultados colocaram a equipa no TOP 15 desta corrida, que contou com 3049 participantes, estando a equipa CNF/Óptica representada por 75 inscritos no total.

CANOAGEM Canoístas do CNF conquistam pódios no Campeonato Regional de Canoagem de Mar No dia 17 de Março, decorreu num percurso entre Santa Cruz e Funchal numa distância de 14,5 km o Campeonato Regional de Canoagem de Mar. Quanto à prestação do Clube Naval do Funchal, foi muito positiva sendo que, no que concerne a classificações individuais, destacaram-se nos pódios na categoria de SS2 Sénior Pedro Mendes e Bruno Afonso do CNF, que conquistaram o primeiro lugar, seguindo-se em segundo lugar a dupla, Rúben Freitas/Tiago Afonso (CTM), e em terceiro Daniel Ferreira/Emanuel Nóbrega (ANCL). Quanto à categoria de SS1 Sénior os navalistas dominaram o pódio ficando em primeiro lugar Marco Gomes, em segundo Válter Andrade e em terceiro lugar Mário Pereira. Nos femininos da categoria de SS1 Sénior Feminino, a canoísta da naval Carlota Duarte alcançou o excelente primeiro lugar, tendo ficado em segundo lugar Maria Carreira do CNC.
Dupla navalista no pódio da Taça de Portugal de Tripulações de Fundo No dia 1 de Abril, os canoístas do naval participaram no Campeonato Nacional de Fundo, que decorreu em Melres (Gondomar). Quanto a classificações, no K1 Sénior David Fernandes teve uma boa prestação ficando classificado em 4º lugar, completando a prova com o seguinte tempo: 00:20:52.35. Já no Domingo, dia 2, a competição foi reservada para a Taça de Portugal de Tripulações de Fundo, onde o Clube Naval do Funchal também marcou presença com várias duplas. No que concerne a classificações no K2 Sénior a dupla navalista Marco Gomes e David Fernandes conseguiu alcançar o pódio ficando em 3º lugar, lugar este merecido após todo o esforço e dedicação nesta competição. Ainda nos K2 competiram Rodolfo e Gonçalo Neves, que acabaram em 6º lugar, posição esta que os K4 Sénior também ficaram, apesar de terem tido uma excelente prestação. O número de clubes a competir nesta competição foi maior, sendo que estiveram presentes 47 clubes e 1003 atletas.
Madeirenses em Hong Kong no Campeonato do Mundo de Surfski O treinador e atleta do CNF, Marco Gomes e David Fernandes, competiram no mês de Novembro no Campeonato do Mundo de Canoagem de Mar em Hong Kong. Os atletas participaram no escalão SS1 Sénior masculino ao lado dos melhores do mundo nesta disciplina de canoagem. Para aproveitar a oportunidade, os atletas promoveram o V Madeira Ocean Race, que está marcado para os dias 22 e 23 de Setembro de 2018. Para o efeito foram distribuídos alguns folhetos informativos sobre o evento e sobre a ilha da Madeira. Entre os 48 canoístas que conseguiram ultrapassar os quatro check points da prova dentro do tempo limite, David Fernandes ficou em 22° lugar com o tempo 1:47:01 e Marco Gomes em 28° lugar com o tempo 1:51:24 numa prova de 22 km. Para o olímpico David Fernandes, “Foi uma fantástica experiência. Apesar de ter algum conhecimento de surfski, ainda tenho muito para evoluir. Num futuro próximo quem sabe… Nos primeiros 7 km de prova tive alguma dificuldade no equilíbrio do barco, mas quando chegamos a parte do downwind senti-me mais à vontade e deu para recuperar algumas posições. Para a preparação que tenho nesta altura, posso dizer que estou satisfeito com o resultado”. Já para Marco Gomes, “(…) o resultado podia ser melhor, mas as condições eram fantásticas e foi uma experiência incrível competir com uma elite mundial de surfski que está cada vez mais forte”.

Quanto a António Costa, também prestou grandes momentos de combate, mas não foram suficientes para alcançar um pódio. CNF - o clube mais medalhado do Torneio de Aniversário do CJB O Clube Judo Brava, com o apoio da Associação de Judo da Região Autónoma da Madeira, realizou no dia 13 de Maio o torneio do seu aniversário. As provas decorreram no ginásio da Escola Básica 2º e 3º ciclos Cónego João Jacinto Gonçalves de Andrade, no Campanário, e contou com a participação de atletas do Clube Judo Brava, Clube Naval do Funchal, Judo Clube Madeira, Grupo Desportivo da Apel, Clube Mar e Serra, Juventude Atlântico Clube e atletas do núcleo do Desporto Escolar da Escola do Campanário. As comemorações integraram o Torneio de Benjamins, para atletas dos 4 anos até aos 10 anos, e o Torneio Zéponês, para os escalões de Infantis, Iniciados e Juvenis. No Torneio Zéponês, destacou-se o Clube Naval do Funchal com 6 medalhas de ouro. As mesmas foram arrecadadas nos infantis por Ana Aguiar (-40 kg) e Guilherme Morais (-35 kg), nos iniciados por Afonso Fernandes (-54 kg) e Guilherme Freitas (-65 kg) e nos juvenis por José Abreu (-55 kg) e Rui Costa (-42 kg). O Clube aniversariante ficou em segundo lugar com 5 medalhas de ouro. Em terceiro, repartiram o pódio o Judo Clube da Madeira e o Grupo Desportivo da Apel, com 3 medalhas cada.

KARATÉ 3 medalhas de bronze e 1 de ouro no Campeonato Nacional Decorreu no dia 18 de Março, no pavilhão do Caniço, o Campeonato Nacional – Fase Regional de Karaté de Infantis, Iniciados e Juvenis, na qual o CNF esteve presente com 9 atletas. Nesta prova estiveram presentes os infantis Rodrigo Vasconcelos e Tiago Pestana, os iniciados Vera Fernandes, Inês Moniz, Rodrigo Silva e João Castro, e os juvenis Lucas Oliveira, João Gonçalves e Gonçalo Silva. Em iniciados kumité competiram 2 atletas do Naval: Rodrigo Silva e João Castro. Os dois karatecas venceram os seus primeiros combates por 3-2 e 5-0, respetivamente. João Castro entrou no combate seguinte a tentar ganhar logo vantagem, mas perdeu um pouco do ímpeto mais para o fim do combate, permitindo a subida do adversário mas, mesmo assim, conseguiu no final reunir a maioria do apoio dos juízes e alcançando a tão desejada medalha de ouro. Entretanto Rodrigo Silva foi repescado para o combate de acesso ao 3º lugar e venceu o seu adversário por 3-2 levando consigo a medalha de bronze. Finalmente chegou a hora dos juvenis Lucas Oliveira e João Gonçalves competirem. Lucas tinha na sua primeira eliminatória a tarefa de vencer um adversário difícil que lhe daria acesso à final. Esteve a ganhar por 2-0, resultante de uma técnica circular de pernas ao tronco do adversário, mas perto do fim do combate o adversário conseguiu pontuar 3 pontos, fruto de uma técnica circular de pernas à cabeça de Lucas no qual não conseguiu se defender perdendo por 2-3, mas mesmo assim conquistou o 2º lugar.
Karaté com quatro campeões regionais Realizou-se no dia 12 de Novembro, no pavilhão do Caniço, o Campeonato Regional de Cadetes/Juniores/Sub-21s/ Seniores e o Campeonato Regional de Clubes na modalidade de Karaté. O CNF somou nesta competição quatro títulos regionais, três masculinos e um feminino. Nos masculinos, na vertente Kumité Cadetes +70 kg foi Francisco Câmara o grande vencedor, enquanto que na vertente Kumité -75 kg foi Bruno Meneses que conquistou o primeiro lugar do pódio. Ricardo Gomes foi igualmente vencedor na vertente Kumité +84 kg. Lisa Camacho foi a grande vencedora em Kata Seniores Femininos. Para além destes quatro lugares mais altos do pódio, Gustavo Gonçalves ficou no terceiro lugar na vertente Kumité -60 kg Sénior e no segundo lugar na vertente Kumité -60 kg Sub-21. André Neves ficou em terceiro lugar na vertente Kumité Sénior Masculino -75 kg e Américo Câmara em segundo lugar na vertente Kumité +84 kg Sénior Masculino. Ricardo Gomes e Bruno Menezes no topo da carreira de arbitragem nacional de Karaté No sábado, dia 11 de Novembro, os treinadores de Karaté do CNF, Ricardo Gomes e Bruno Menezes participaram no XIV Curso Unificado de Árbitro de Karaté e obtiveram o título de Árbitro A, o topo da carreira de arbitragem a nível nacional.
Karaté entre os melhores no Ranking Regional Decorreu no dia 25 de Novembro a entrega de medalhas aos atletas que se destacaram ao longo da época competitiva 2016/2017 na modalidade de Karaté. Os atletas de Karaté do Clube Naval do Funchal marcaram presença neste evento e arrecadaram 11 medalhas, entre as quais 2 medalhas de ouro, 5 medalhas de prata e 4 medalhas de bronze. Tiago Martim Fernandes Pestana foi medalha de prata em Kata Masculino Infantil -7 anos Nível C. Rodrigo Saldanha Vasconcelos foi bronze em Kata Masculino Infantil -8/9 anos Nível C e prata em Kumité Masculino Infantil 8/9 anos -40 kg Nível C. Naval domina na 2ª Etapa do Circuito Regional de Surf Os atletas do Clube Naval do Funchal estiveram em grande destaque na 2º Etapa do Brisa Circuito Regional de Surf Open 2017 powered by Csantos VP. Esta prova que se realizou no dia 9 de Setembro nas ondas do Porto da Cruz, contou com a participação de 15 Atletas do Clube Naval do Funchal, que conforme as expectativas marcaram a sua presença com grandes performances e lugares no pódio. Assim o grande destaque vai para Tomás Lacerda, grande vencedor, que alcançou o primeiro lugar no Open, seguido por Lourenço Faria em 2º, João Pessoa em 3º e ainda Bernardo Correia em 4º. Em grande evidência esteve também Jessica Dunsdon, que se sagrou campeã no Open Feminino, e partilhou o pódio com a sua colega Matilde faria que ficou em 3º lugar.
Equipa de Surf em estágio no Porto Santo Como habitual no final da época desportiva, o departamento de surf do Clube Naval do Funchal, organizou na ilha dourada, um estágio para os seus atletas dos grupos de formação, pré-competição e competição. Para além de usufruírem de excelentes condições de mar que esta ilha oferece para a prática desta modalidade, os atletas tiveram momentos de convívio fundamentais para fomentar o espírito de pertença ao grupo assim como treinos de melhoria técnica e resistência física. A nível de patrocínios, o Clube Naval do Funchal agradece o apoio da Porto Santo Line e do Vila Baleira Resort – Porto Santo, assim como, à Madeira Saúde, Ericeira Surf & Skate e Matta Shapes que acompanham esta equipa ao longo do ano.

O grande objetivo do CNF foi alcançado, tendo conseguido o maior número de Campeões Regionais masculinos. Cinco vitórias, sendo que ficaram em primeiro lugar, no sub12 Enzo Aznar, no sub 14 Nilton Freitas, no sub 16 feminino Matilde Faria e nos sub 16 e 18 Tomás Lacerda. Quanto aos restantes surfistas apesar de não terem alcançado o primeiro lugar, tiveram ótimas prestações, sendo que, na final de sub 12 estiveram dois atletas do CNF, no sub 14 todos os finalistas eram também do clube, tal como na final de sub 16 e 18. Estes resultados e prestações dos surfistas do Clube Naval do Funchal é uma continuidade do ano passado e segundo André Rodrigues “ esta etapa serviu para ver que o campeonato regional está mais competitivo e dános muitos indicadores para trabalharmos para a segunda etapa”. Foi um domingo, com um grande espetáculo de surf, num local que já é de referência para os amantes desta modalidade. Este foi um evento da organização da Associação de Surf da Região Autónoma da Madeira em parceria com o Clube Desportivo Nacional.
Surfistas masculinos campeões Regionais de Surf No dia 6 de maio, o Porto da Cruz foi o palco da disputa da 3ª etapa do BRISA Circuito Regional de Surf Esperanças. A prova teve início logo pela manhã de sábado, pelas 9h00 com as meias finais de sub18 onde os navalistas Tomás Lacerda, Bernardo Correia e Nilton Freitas garantiram a passagem à grande final. Já com a maré um pouco mais cheia, ainda houve a oportunidade de se lançar a categoria feminina na água, onde disputaram nos Sub16, pelo primeiro lugar, a surfista do Naval Matilde Faria e Verónica Silva do CDN. Matilde Faria acabou por efetuar uma excelente prestação, criando dificuldades à sua adversária, mas, no entanto, acabou por não conquistar o primeiro lugar. Após uma pausa na competição, devido à falta de condições mínimas de ondulação, a competição recomeçou à tarde, pelas 15h00 com as meias finais de Sub16, onde Tomás Lacerda, João Silva (CDN), Nilton Freitas e Bernardo Correia singraram, com um lugar na final. Logo após, decorreram as finais de todas as categorias onde nos Sub12 venceu Enzo Aznar do CNF tornando-se assim Campeão Regional, após a 3ª etapa com 3000 pontos, sendo que o mesmo aconteceu a Nilton Freitas (CNF), Campeão Regional de Sub14. NATAÇÃO Formação de natação para bebés e adaptação ao meio aquático Realizou-se nos dias 17 e 18 de Junho, no Complexo de Piscinas da Nazaré, uma formação ministrada por Rita Pinto, com o objectivo de analisar os desafios das aulas de bebés dos 6 meses aos 3 anos, bem como a adaptação ao meio aquático de crianças dos 3 aos 5 anos. Com a presença de 25 formandos, sendo a grande maioria técnicos do clube, a formação teve nos dois dias parte teórica, terminando as duas sessões com parte prática, para que os formandos pudessem vivenciar e experimentar a matéria abordada na sala. Esta foi mais uma formação incluída no plano anual de formações do clube, com o objectivo de tornar a nossa equipa técnica cada vez mais conhecedora e competente.
Funchal Eco Swim e São Pedro de mãos dadas Como tradicional na atividade do CNF, no dia 28 de Junho, a baía da Quinta Calaça recebeu a prova de águas abertas, Funchal Eco Swim, inserida nas festividades do Arraial de São Pedro. Numa competição que tinha três provas com as distâncias de 500, 1000 e 2000 m, os atletas realizavam a prova de acordo com o seu nível competitivo. A primeira largada realizou-se pelas 18h30 e foi destinada aos jovens que estão a iniciar o seu percurso em natação de águas abertas, enquanto que as provas de 1000 e 2000 m arrancaram em simultâneo às 18h45, com os atletas da prova mais curta a realizar apenas uma volta ao percurso e os restantes, duas voltas. No que diz respeito aos resultados, na prova de 500 m, os três primeiros atletas foram da categoria de cadetes, crianças com 11/12 anos, sendo que Diogo Oliveira do Naval alcançou o lugar mais alto do pódio, enquanto que André Dias do Nacional ficou em segundo e Rodrigo Boulhosa, também do Naval, ficou em terceiro. No sector feminino a vencedora foi a Juvenil Filipa Gonçalves, atleta popular, seguida de Marcelis Hernandez, também popular, e em terceiro, e com apenas 10 anos de idade, a atleta do Nacional Júlia Dias. 4ª EDIÇÃO | FEVEREIRO 2018

ESCOLAS DE FORMAÇÃO E COMPETIÇÃO Na prova de 1000 m, no sector masculino, os três primeiros lugares foram para atletas Masters, com a vitória a sorrir ao alvinegro Duarte Camacho, seguido de perto do seu colega de equipa Luís Silva, ficando o último lugar do pódio para o popular Óscar Melim. No sector feminino a grande vencedora foi a Júnior do Naval do Funchal Carolina Boulhosa, que fez uma excelente prova ao manter o andamento junto aos homens da frente. Em segundo lugar, ficou Beatriz Lameiras da WOS Team e em terceiro lugar ficou a popular Tânia Alves. Finalmente na prova dos 2000 m, no sector masculino o vencedor foi para o Sénior Luís Pedro Silva do Nacional, seguido do Master João Pedro Sousa do Desportivo São Roque, ficando o último lugar do pódio para o popular Duarte Vieira. De destacar também a excelente prestação do Master Rui Pereira do Naval do Funchal, que alcançou o quarto lugar da geral. No sector feminino, a grande vencedora foi a Master Catarina Alves do Nacional, seguida das Masters do Naval do Funchal Mayra Santos e Catarina Silva, que ficaram em segundo e terceiro, respetivamente. Como nota final a destacar a presença de cerca de 40 crianças que realizaram uma prova de 200 m entre os dois caís da baía da Quinta Calaça, como forma de começar a preparar futuras participações em próximas provas de águas abertas.
Naval duplamente Vice-Campeão Nacional Foi na 4ª Jornada do Open de Portugal – Campeonato Nacional de Juvenis e Absoluto em natação, ocorrida nos dias 20, 21, 22 e 23 de Julho, no Jamor, que o Clube Naval do Funchal sagrou-se duplamente Vice-Campeão Nacional nas mãos de André Deus e Tomás Silva, nas provas de 100 m livres e 400 m estilos, respetivamente. O campeonato, que teve lugar no Complexo de Piscinas Olímpicas do Jamor em Lisboa (p50m), contou com a participação de 758 nadadores (403 masculinos e 355 femininos) provindos de 129 Clubes. Em grande evidência, no sector masculino estiveram Tomás Silva Juvenil A, que se sagrou vice-campeão nacional com novo recorde pessoal de 4:48.23 nos 400 m estilos, e André Deus Juvenil B, que obteve o tÍtulo de vice-campeão nacional, batendo o recorde regional de 1:08.89 e superando o 1:09.22 anteriormente por si estabelecido nas eliminatórias. Este nadador participou ainda nas finais Juvenil B obtendo nos 100 m livres o 9º lugar e na prova de 200 m livres ficou em 10º lugar. Já o colega Tomás participou ainda na final A Juvenil dos 200 m bruços alcançando um 5º posto à geral. Nos juniores, Miguel Gomes com duas finais B nas provas de 50 m e 100 m mariposa conseguiu um 7º e 9º lugar respetivamente, enquanto que Afonso Sequeira obteve dois novos recordes pessoais, nas duas finais A nos 100 m e 200m mariposa conquistando o 10º lugar; o mesmo resultado obteve o Júnior Martim Silva Júnior com uma final B nos 100 m mariposa. No sector feminino, o destaque foi para Ana Fernandes Juvenil B com 2 finais de juvenis, alcançando o 7º lugar na prova de 100 m bruços e o 10º na prova dos 200 m.

VELA Rodrigo Gomes, Alivar Cardoso e Leandro Sá alcançam o pódio Realizou-se no fim-de-semana de 8 e 9 de Julho, na baía de Santa Cruz, o I Torneio AQUAPARQUE – 6ª Prova do Campeonato da Madeira de Vela Ligeira/Brisa 2017. Uma organização do Iate Clube de Santa Cruz e da Associação Regional de Vela da Madeira. O campeonato de Vela Ligeira, que deveria se desenrolar ao longo de dois dias, viu o seu primeiro dia reduzido apenas a uma regata, pois o vento fraco não reuniu as condições necessárias para a realização de todo o programa das regatas. Já no domingo, o cenário inverteu-se, e apesar do vento inconstante, conseguiram realizar-se as três regatas previstas. Nesta competição, o Naval marcou presença nos pódios com especial destaque para Alivar Cardoso com o 2º lugar na classe Laser Radial e Rodrigo Gomes, que se distinguiu no Windsurf, sagrando-se vencedor da classe Techno 293, em que, também do CNF, Leandro Sá alcançou o 3º lugar.
Salvador Gomes brilha no XIII Campeonato de Portugal de Vela Decorreu entre os dias 1 e 3 de Setembro, na baía de Santa Cruz, o XIII Campeonato de Portugal de Infantis e Iniciados em Vela ligeira. O evento, organizado pelo Iate Clube de Santa Cruz em parceria com a Federação Portuguesa de Vela e Associação Regional de Vela da Madeira, contou com a participação de cerca de 80 velejadores oriundos de todo o país. O Clube Naval do Funchal esteve representado por Salvador Gomes, que a competir na classe Optimist infantil alcançou o brilhante 3º lugar à geral em masculinos e um 5º lugar à geral, entre os 76 inscritos nesta competição. Segundo Pedro Silva, treinador do jovem Salvador do Naval, ”(…) as expectativas eram grandes, e assim vieram a se confirmar, apesar de só termos realizado uma regata, o Salvador largou menos bem, mas conseguiu fazer uma regata de trás para a frente e ainda assim obter um bom resultado”.

Velejadores do Naval em estágio no Porto Santo Decorreu entre os dias 8 e 10 de Dezembro o estágio de Natal das equipas de vela do Clube Naval do Funchal na ilha do Porto Santo. Aproveitando o fim de semana prolongado e as excelentes condições climatéricas desta ilha para a prática de vela, foram “(…) 3 dias importantes para os 13 atletas presentes, que conseguiram evoluir em vários aspetos, nomeadamente o melhoramento das competências técnico/táticas, para além de fortalecer a união do grupo” tal como referiu Bruno Luz, treinador e porta-voz do grupo. Estes dias de estágio serviram também de preparação para a 2ª prova do Campeonato Regional de Vela Ligeira, que decorreu no fim-de-semana de 16 e 17 de Dezembro. De referir também que para aproveitar a interrupção do período letivo, decorreu um ATL de Natal nesta modalidade que se iniciou no dia 18 de Dezembro. Uma nota final de agradecimento à Porto Santo Line e ao Clube Naval do Porto Santo pelo apoio prestado a esta atividade.

Ricardo Rodrigues no pódio da 3ª etapa do Circuito Nacional de SUP Decorreu no dia 21 de Maio a terceira etapa do Circuito Nacional de SUP Race Técnico, em Matosinhos. Em representação do Clube Naval do Funchal esteve Ricardo Rodrigues, que alcançou o excelente terceiro lugar, tendo ficado em segundo lugar Rúben Afonso e em primeiro Filipe Meira. Segundo o atleta navalista, esta foi uma “prova muito bem organizada, com um percurso muito bem delineado e com muitas rondagens de boias, algumas delas dentro da zona de rebentação, perto da praia”. Ricardo Rodrigues teve a infelicidade de há pouco tempo ter tido uma lesão na zona lombar, mas afirma que “o facto de estar alojado no centro de alto rendimento de Viana foi ótimo, no sentido de que tive a ajuda de uma fisioterapeuta que me ajudou muito a melhorar e a estar em condições para realizar a prova”. No que diz respeito à prova, ainda sublinhou que “na preparação do toque para a largada, fui apanhado um pouco desprevenido. Quando se deu a largada, eu ainda estava em preparação, não tendo sido um arranque perfeito, tendo em conta que tive uma largada tardia em relação aos restantes atletas. No entanto, como estava bem fisicamente, fui recuperando e acabei alcançando o terceiro lugar, o que foi ótimo”.
Campeões regionais em Sub-16 e Sub-10 Durante a manhã do dia 4 de Novembro, decorreu na baía do Funchal a 7ª e última prova do circuito regional de SUP Race 2017. A prova, organizada pela Associação Regional de Surf da Madeira em parceria com o CNF e o CTM, foi dividida pelas classes de Sub-10, Sub-12, Sub-14, Sub-16, Sub-18, Open 12,6´´ e 14´´ pés, e ainda pela classe aberta “All Around”. Carlota Rodrigues, atleta de Sub-10 do Naval, sagrou-se campeã regional nesta prova, tendo mais uma vez alcançado o 1º lugar na sua classe, seguida pela sua colega Maria Amélia. Já nos masculinos de Sub-10, Mateus Freitas foi o segundo a cortar a linha de chegada. Nos Sub-12 Tiago Jardim ficou em segundo classificado assim como a sua colega Margaria Silva nos femininos. O navalista João Jardim foi o segundo mais rápido nos Sub-14 assim como Lara Freitas nos femininos. Nos Sub-16 foi Tomás Lacerda que se destacou neste escalão e conquistou o título de campeão regional de Sub-16. Tomás participou também na classe Open 14´´conquistando o 2º lugar, logo após João Rodrigues do CTM. Na geral, o atleta de 16 anos foi o 5º mais rápido. 4ª EDIÇÃO | FEVEREIRO 2018

ESCOLAS DE FORMAÇÃO E COMPETIÇÃO Tomás Lacerda Campeão Nacional de SUP Race Maratona No primeiro dia de competição do Madeira SUP Challenge, prova internacional de Stand Up Paddle Board, integrou a primeira prova do Campeonato Nacional de SUP Race Maratona do escalão Sub-15 feminino e masculino, em pranchas de 12.6. Logo à partida, destacou-se Tomás Lacerda, que saiu em vantagem em relação aos restantes participantes. O atleta traçou a linha da meta passados 32 minutos e 39 segundos da partida, sagrando-se “em casa” Campeão Nacional de SUP Race Maratona. “Esta vitória é inesquecível pois eu nunca acreditei muito ganhar, visto esta não ser a minha modalidade, sendo que a minha prioridade é o Surf, e supostamente, hoje estaria presente na terceira etapa do Circuito de Lisboa, mas como havia este campeonato cá na região, e sendo o meu clube a organizar é mesmo uma honra representar o Clube Naval do Funchal levando ainda a vitória. Quanto à competição, sendo a primeira vez que sou campeão nacional em algum desporto, é algo inesquecível e que vou recordar. Apesar de o Surf ser a minha modalidade e eu dar prioridade, espero treinar mais vezes Stand Up Paddle e, sendo que agora tenho este título, vou levar a sério esta modalidade”, referiu o atleta no final deste evento que aconteceu no mês de Março.
Equipa de SUP conquista Porto Santo Sete dos doze atletas de Stand Up Paddle do CNF subiram ao pódio na sexta etapa do circuito regional de SUP. A prova, que decorreu no Porto Santo no inicio do mês de Outubro, foi muito positiva para a comitiva de atletas que no geral esteve muito bem, tal como referiu o treinador Ricardo Rodrigues. Tomás Lacerda ficou em primeiro nos Sub-16 garantindo assim o título de campeão regional no seu escalão. Participou mais tarde no percurso principal na classe 14,0 e terminou em quarto lugar na geral e segundo na classe 14. Nos Sub-10 Carlota Rodrigues ficou em primeiro feminino, Vasco Mata em quarto e Mateus Freitas em terceiro. No escalão de Sub-12, Margarida Silva subiu a terceiro lugar do pódio e Constança Câmara ao segundo. Nos masculinos Tiago Jardim alcançou o quarto lugar sendo seguido pelo colega João Mata. Em Sub-14 foi Catarina Afonso que conquistou o segundo lugar enquanto João Nuno Jardim garantiu o primeiro lugar. Lara Rodrigues foi quinta nos Sub-16 e Tomás Lacerda foi primeiro. Campeão Nacional em Kumité Iniciado Masculino - 54 kg O Karateca do CNF João Castro sagrou-se no dia 27 de Maio, no Pavilhão Municipal do Barreiro em Lisboa, Campeão Nacional de Iniciados da Federação Nacional Karaté – Portugal, na categoria de Kumité (combate) -54 kg depois de se ter sagrado Campeão Regional. Na competição estiveram presentes 162 clubes e 627 atletas. Após ter ganho a primeira e terceira eliminatória, ambas por 4-1 passando à final da pool, na eliminatória de acesso à final, enfrentou um adversário muito forte, resultando num combate muito equilibrado que só nos momentos finais conseguiu superiorizar, vencendo por 3-2. Na final, defrontou o atleta João Seco da SKD Penacova, contra quem tinha competido e ganho no Campeonato Nacional da APKS no mês anterior. Segundo Bruno Menezes, “foi delineada uma estratégia com base no conhecimento que tínhamos deste oponente, o que resultou numa vitória sem margem para dúvidas de 5-0, sagrando-se assim João Castro Campeão Nacional da FNKP.
César Nicola judo O atleta e treinador de Judo do CNF alcançou em 2017 dois resultados de destaque, que colocam este Veterano no topo nacional desta modalidade no seu escalão. Assim foi no dia 5 de Março em Coimbra que César Nicola subiu ao primeiro lugar do pódio do Campeonato Nacional de Veteranos. Depois desta vitória, o treinador do CNF, há mais de 13 anos, foi também o grande vencedor do Campeonato Nacional de Katas que decorreu no mês de Maio em Faro, voltando a conquistar o título de campeão nacional.

Afonso Gonçalves judo No dia de São Martinho, uma comitiva de judocas madeirenses participou em Lisboa num Torneio Open de Cadetes, que serviu para qualificar para o Campeonato Nacional da modalidade. Afonso Gonçalves, nos -73 kg, com três combates ganhos, regressou à Madeira de bronze ao peito. Este atleta havia sido campeão nacional de juvenis em 2016 e, desde que mudou de escalão para cadetes em 2017, ainda não tinha subido aos pódios nacionais.

com diploma A nadadora do Naval, Susana Sousa Gomes, participou no mês de Agosto entre os dias 7 e 20 na 17ª edição do Campeonato do Mundo de Masters que decorreu em Budapeste, na Hungria. Susana Sousa Gomes, que em 2017 bateu vários recordes nacionais, competiu nas provas de Natação Pura Escalão D (40-44 anos) em 50, 100 e 800 m livres; 50 e 100 m mariposa. Depois de um brilhante sétimo lugar na prova dos 100 m livres, alcançado na mesma competição, a madeirense conquistou o diploma e respectiva medalha, pelo sexto lugar alcançado na distância dos 50 m mariposa, com a marca de 29″95, estabelecendo um novo recorde nacional.

COMEMORAÇÕES DO 65º ANIVERSÁRIO JANTAR CONCERTO DE MIGUEL ARAÚJO
Concerto de Miguel Araújo foi o grande protagonista da festa de aniversário dos 65 anos do CNF Decorreu no dia 30 de Abril, na sede social do Clube Naval do Funchal, a entrega dos emblemas dos 25 e 50 anos aos associados, que completaram esses períodos como sócios efetivos pagantes do CNF, num total de 108 associados contemplados. A cerimónia teve início pelas 19h30, com a Presidente navalista Mafalda Freitas, que dirigindo umas curtas palavras a todos os presentes, elogiou e agradeceu a presença de todos, bem como pelo facto de serem sócios ativos e participativos na vida do clube. Segundo Daniela Aguiar, uma das sócias agraciada, com o emblema de 25 anos “tornei-me sócia através do meu pai, que já na altura acreditava que o clube era o local mais seguro para irmos à praia. De fato esse é um fator que não mudou com o passar dos anos, sendo que também tenho os meus filhos a praticarem várias modalidades no clube, como também frequentam a praia”. O testemunho de Daniela Aguiar demonstra que o CNF é um clube familiar onde continua a formar gerações, facto este que José Branco, um dos cinco sócios agraciados com o emblema de ouro, referente aos 50 anos em que é associado, também referiu.

Após a entrega dos emblemas, foi efetuado um brinde de comemoração dos 65 anos de vida do clube. Logo após, pelas 20h00, decorreu um momento de convívio, através de um jantar buffet, onde puderam estar presentes todos os que quiseram festejar esta efeméride. Estiveram presentes sócios, utentes, parceiros, dirigentes e demais amigos do CNF num jantar que decorreu no solário da sede social, com um excelente ambiente, e um final de tarde muito agradável à beira mar. Findo o jantar o grande momento das comemorações teve início, onde a música foi a protagonista, através do concerto mais intimista de Miguel Araújo. O cantor divertiu todos os presentes, através do seu bom humor, como também através das suas músicas. O cantor da célebre e conhecida canção “O Marido das Outras” referiu que este concerto teve um cenário diferente, em que “o verdadeiro cenário foi a paisagem, em que eu às vezes olhava e ouvia o mar. Já toquei perto do mar, como por exemplo na baía de Cascais, mas não é a mesma coisa. Cá estávamos inacreditavelmente perto do mar, o que tornou o concerto mais especial”. Esta foi a quinta vez que o cantor esteve na Ilha da Madeira, onde tocou duas novas músicas do seu novo álbum “Giestas”, que foi apresentado três dias antes do concerto no Clube Naval do Funchal. Findado o concerto, o DJ Phill Me entrou em ação, onde animou todos os presentes ao som de música mais alternativa, no after party.

EXPOSIÇÃO DE AGUARELAS FERNANDO LEMOS GOMES Exposição de aguarelas de Fernando Lemos Gomes Na sequência das festividades dos 65 anos, Fernando Lemos Gomes voltou a exibir no dia 29 de Abril as suas pinturas na Quinta Calaça, sede social do CNF. A temática escolhida, desta feita, foi “Emoção e Lazer”, que se baseou no contexto náutico, retratando muitas das embarcações que fizeram parte da história da vela da Madeira, como também muitas paisagens de todo o arquipélago. Segundo a Presidente navalista Mafalda Freitas “o meu destaque vai para a pintura da embarcação Albatroz, que ganhou a primeira regata entre Lisboa e Madeira, e que nessa regata, em 1950, deu origem ao Clube Naval do Funchal”. Entre vinte aguarelas, Fernando Lemos explicou que as suas pinturas têm duas vertentes, sendo elas a teórica e documental. A nível teórico, o autor ilustrou o quotidiano, através de embarcações, desde as antigas até as atuais, traduzindo assim a pintura numa valência artística, sendo ela a decorativa. Por outro lado, Lemos Gomes pretendeu tornar as suas ilustrações como um arquivo documental, demonstrando a época dos 90. A inauguração contou com cerca de duas dezenas de pessoas, incluindo membros da direção do CNF, o escultor Ricardo Velosa e ainda demais associados ao clube e amigos do pintor. Também marcou presença a Vereadora da Câmara Municipal do Funchal, Madalena Nunes, que proferiu algumas palavras sobre as celebrações dos 65 anos do CNF afirmando que “é de uma forma eclética que o clube celebra o seu aniversário, sendo que é visível no programa de festividades, desporto, tanto na piscina como também no mar, desporto inclusivo, arte ligada ao mar e ainda homenagens realizadas a sócios, isto porque o clube também é feito de pessoas e são elas que dão identidade ao clube. Isso mostra bem o grande trabalho que tem vindo a ser feito”. Finalizou com umas palavras dirigidas ao autor da exposição, felicitando as suas aguarelas. Fernando Lemos Gomes é madeirense, nascido em 1940 e foi um antigo sócio do Clube Naval. A residir há vários anos em Lisboa, foi pintor de arte na Escola de Belas Artes de Lisboa e foi sócio fundador da Associação Portuguesa de Design. Foi ainda professor de Design no Instituto de Artes Plásticas do Funchal e membro da Direção e Chefe de Departamento Técnico-Artístico do Instituto de Artesanato da Madeira. A exposição esteve patente até 30 de Junho.

EXPOSIÇÃO DE PINTURAS CARMO DIONÍSIO Carmo Dionísio no Clube Naval No âmbito do programa de festividades do 65º aniversário do CNF, esteve patente na Casa Mãe da Sede Social, entre o dia 15 de Setembro e o dia 1 de Outubro, a exposição de pintura de Maria Carmo Dionísio, reconhecida artista madeirense com trabalhos nas Portas da Cidade na Zona Velha, Igrejas e Escolas da Região e prémio “Lady Diana Award 2013/2014 pela associação Lady Diana Walfer” (ONG). A coleção foi composta por 26 quadros de óleo e pastel sobre tela e é inspirada em múltiplas temáticas, incidindo sobretudo nos seus conhecimentos e paixão pela mitologia greco-romana.
FESTA BRANCA The original White Party Como tradição nas atividades do Clube Naval, realizouse no dia 9 de Setembro, numa organização da Cultural Urbana, a original Festa Branca com a temática da música dos anos 80 e 90 e o dress code white. Aberta ao público em geral a partir das 23h00, a festa teve como grandes convidados os artistas Cotonetes com Açúcar, DJ Phill Me e DJ João Canada e fez as delícias dos sócios do clube de várias gerações, e encerrando o verão da melhor forma possível. A próxima Festa Branca terá lugar no dia 8 de Setembro, inserida na XX Regata Internacional Canárias Madeira.

A Presidente navalista Mafalda Freitas, deu as boas -vindas a todos os convidados e começou por apresentar as instalações sociais do CNF, dando a conhecer um pouco do historial do clube. Com a exposição, Olhares sobre o Mergulho científico na Madeira, patente, deu também a conhecer a todos a iniciativa, momento que

Elogiavam as facilidades encontradas na ‘ilha hospitaleira’, através da colaboração do iatista local, e também as suas especialidades culinárias, com que brindava os visitantes, entre elas o famoso ‘Arroz à Catanho’. Este encontro realizou-se no mês de Maio. Já no mês de Junho, o convidado foi Rodrigo Moreira Rato, responsável de comunicação da Volvo Ocean Race em Portugal e das Extreme Sailing Series Madeira. Sendo um dos nomes de destaque no panorama das atividades náuticas, com especial ênfase para a vela, Rodrigo Moreira Rato foi calorosamente recebido pelos órgãos representativos do clube e demais participantes. Durante o almoço convívio, deu a conhecer muito do que faz e das interações que desencadeia de forma a tornar visíveis e viáveis projetos de grande interesse desportivo quanto mediático e de promoção dos destinos onde acontecem. No âmbito do programa de atividades de Bandeira Azul do CNF e da Marina do Funchal, e aproveitando a visita de Isabel Lissner, coordenadora internacional do Programa Bandeira Azul, e Catarina Gonçalves, coordenadora nacional do mesmo galardão à região, foi realizada uma atividade de limpeza de mar à superfície com meios ecológicos no dia 29 de Julho. A atividade, que foi realizada num percurso por mar entre São Lázaro e a Quinta Calaça, foi elogiada por Isabel Lissner, que nesta sua primeira visita à região mostrou-se agradavelmente surpreendida por todo o trabalho desenvolvido neste âmbito. Também agradada com a ação e feliz com o convite, demonstrou-se Catarina Gonçalves, que não poupou elogios à ação de educação ambiental e qualidade da água balnear. Esta ação foi seguida pelo almoço da Malta do Calhau, que contou também com a presença de Susana Fontinha, Diretora Regional do Território e Ambiente, momento em que se pôde debater os objetivos gerais da Bandeira Azul e ficar a conhecer outros programas a nível europeu como o EcoEscolas e o Green Key.

GALA DE NATAL O Clube Naval do Funchal levou a efeito no dia 15 de Dezembro uma Gala de Natal que teve lugar na Sala Embaixador do Hotel Bungavília e que também assinalou o encerramento do ano de festividades do 65º aniversário do clube. Por essa razão, foram homenageadas várias pessoas ligadas à atividade e história do clube sendo atribuídos prémios com base em diversas categorias. Assim sendo, o Prémio António Aragão, um dos mais emotivos da noite, assinalou os sócios que estão filiados no clube desde a sua fundação. Este prémio foi entregue aos sócios, Sidónio de Gouveia, Dalila da Conceição Henriques, Vasco Catanho José e Vitor Moreira de Caires. O Prémio Guilherme Escórcio foi entregue aos funcionários que se encontram no clube há pelo menos 25 anos, sendo eles, Manuel Adelino, Miguel Freitas, Fátima Melim, Anabela Silva e Joaquim Fernandes. Também os colaboradores que fizeram crescer as modalidades do CNF foram homenageados com o Prémio Francisco José, entre eles, César Nicola, treinador de judo no Naval há 13 anos, Fernando Araújo na modalidade de natação, Óscar Camacho, nas atividades subaquáticas, Rui Fontes, primeiro diretor da modalidade de pesca desportiva, e ainda Pedro Correia na Vela Adaptada desde 2006.
Como habitual no final do ano, foram atribuídos os Prémios Naval do Ano aos atletas que não só tiveram um bom desempenho desportivo, mas também um bom desempenho a nível social e escolar. Assim sendo na Canoagem foram destacados os atletas Carlota Duarte e Luís Garcias. No Judo, foi Rui Costa a merecer a homenagem, e no Karaté Lisa Camacho e João Castro. Na Natação, Marta Ferreira foi a atleta em destaque assim como Martim Cunha e Silva. Na Pesca foi Oliver Gabriel que levou o prémio para casa enquanto que no Stand Up Paddle foi Constança Câmara que mereceu o destaque do ano. Tomás Lacerda foi destacado com dois prémios, acumulando o Stand Up Paddle e o Surf. Na Vela foi Tiago Sousa o Naval do Ano.

Porque este foi um ano de especiais comemorações e eventos, foram também destacadas as pessoas que contribuíram para prestigiar esta efeméride com o Prémio Américo Durão, nomeadamente André Cunha, pela organização do Torneio Internacional Cidade do Funchal, Humberto Fernandes, pelo Madeira Ocean Race, Igor Aguiar e Tânia Monteiro, pelo Madeira Cross Games, e ainda Ricardo Rodrigues pelo Madeira SUP Challenge. A representar o CIIMAR Madeira, Pedro Neves recebeu o prémio assim como Mafalda Freitas pela Estação de Biologia Marinha, ambos pelo contributo na organização da III Conferência Europeia de Mergulho, que teve lugar na sede social do CNF. Cristina Freitas pela atividade da Hora do Conto, Alexandra Melim pela decoração da sede social, Fernando Lemos Gomes pela exposição Emoção e Lazer, Ivan Abreu pelo Madeira Island International Swim Marathon, Rui Trindade, em representação da Universidade da Madeira pelo Congresso Internacional – O Desporto e Mar, Rui São Marcos e Jaime Camacho pelo contributo na gestão probono na Marina do Funchal foram também premiados com o troféu Américo Durão, em agradecimento pelo contributo dado a cada uma das atividades.
Foi em clima de festa que o resto desta celebração aconteceu pela noite dentro, contando com cerca de 160 pessoas entre sócios, atletas, funcionários, colaboradores e dirigentes, numa gala onde Mafalda Freitas foi surpreendida com uma homenagem por parte dos funcionários e colaboradores, por toda a dedicação e empenho ao Clube Naval do Funchal durante os últimos 8 anos de mandato enquanto Presidente de Direção.

PAINEL DOS OLÍMPICOS NA SEDE SOCIAL
Foi ao final da tarde do dia 15 de Dezembro que foi descerrado o painel de homenagem aos atletas olímpicos do CNF na Casa Mãe da Sede Social, à Quinta Calaça, nomeadamente Michel Almeida no Judo, Paulo Camacho na Natação e Helena Rodrigues e David Fernandes na Canoagem. A cerimónia contou com a presença dos atletas e dos dirigentes do CNF e assinalou mais uma atividade de comemoração do 65º aniversário do clube. Helena Rodrigues teve o prazer de descerrar o painel revelando que “(…) é com grande orgulho, ver o meu esforço revelado naquele painel e uma honra pertencer a este clube desde 1994. Um clube que me formou e me viu crescer até ao auge da minha carreira e que sempre me apoiou”. Já o seu colega da mesma modalidade, David Fernandes, referiu que “(…) é sempre bom ser homenageado juntamente com os outros três atletas. É pena não haver mais, mas esperemos que nos próximos anos este painel possa ser acrescentado com mais atletas olímpicos”. Paulo Camacho, Ex-olímpico e treinador da equipa de natação do CNF, não escondeu que é “(…) reconfortante para o Ego ver o trabalho de uma fase da nossa vida ser lembrado. É sempre uma honra ainda por cima num clube que me fez crescer e me acompanhou a tanto lado”.

Durante o verão, o Choka Beach Bar na sede social do CNF no piso 1 esteve aberto ao público oferecendo um espaço agradável à beira-mar que veio completar os dias quentes do verão. Ao longo de toda a época balnear foram realizadas várias festas temáticas assim como sunsets, com DJ, com várias bebidas e snacks no menu. Este espaço veio colmatar uma lacuna na oferta deste tipo de serviços no final do dia de praia sendo uma iniciativa a repetir nos próximos anos.

INCLUSÃO ATRAVÉS DO DESPORTO
VELA ADAPTADA NA ESCOLA BÁSICA DO 2º E 3º CICLOS DOS LOUROS Decorreu no dia 4 de Dezembro, na Escola dos Louros, uma ação de sensibilização inserida na Semana Regional da Pessoa com Necessidades Especiais. A equipa de vela adaptada do Naval foi convidada para dar o seu contributo no painel, “O meu sucesso – O meu testemunho”, com uma apresentação onde o treinador Pedro Correia deu a conhecer o percurso deste grupo de trabalho que já leva quase duas décadas nesta atividade no clube. Este momento não foi exclusivo ao CNF tendo, além da nossa equipa, jovens de outras escolas da região a oportunidade de darem a conhecer parte do seu percurso de vida.
NAVAL É INCLUSÃO SOCIAL E VOLUNTARIADO A exemplo de outras tantas vezes, o Naval do Funchal recebeu na manhã do dia 26 de Outubro, no Centro Náutico de São Lázaro, um grupo de alunos da unidade de Ensino Especializado da Escola Gonçalves Zarco. Sob a iniciativa da professora Daniela Nunes em parceria com o CNF, foram desenvolvidas estas atividades nas modalidades de Stand Up Paddle, Vela, Natação e Judo, com o objectivo de proporcionar experiências diferentes a estes alunos. Sob a coordenação e voluntariado dos técnicos do SURF e SUP respetivamente, André e Ricardo Rodrigues, e com o apoio das técnicas, Isabel Rocha e Olga Franco, as jovens estudantes tiveram a oportunidade de experimentarem a modalidade de SUP. Com o tempo a ajudar, esta primeira abordagem permitiu uma familiarização ao meio e à atividade, de forma descontraída e lúdica. Nas palavras da Profª Daniela, “Foi muito gratificante ver a alegria das alunas, superou as expectativas. Uma experiência a repetir sem dúvida”. Na semana seguinte as experiências no Naval voltaram a acontecer na modalidade de Natação.

INCLUSÃO ATRAVÉS DO DESPORTO
TURISMO SEM LIMITES Dando continuidade ao seu papel social e desportivo, mas também inclusivo e de dinamização da oferta turística, o CNF teve o prazer de receber no dia 22 de Junho dois jovens britânicos, para realizar uma experiência náutica adaptada em vela. Entre o leque de oferta de atividades adaptadas, nomeadamente Canoagem, Mergulho, Natação e Judo, para os turistas que nos visitam estes jovens, que nunca tinham estado na água, tiveram oportunidade de realizar um batismo de vela com o Clube Naval sob a orientação do Prof. Pedro Correia, especialista em desporto adaptado, e que colabora com o CNF há mais de 10 anos. O vento fez-se sentir acima das expectativas, ainda assim permitiu a cada jovem navegar no centro náutico de São Lázaro de forma segura e tranquila, apoiados pela equipa de velejadores de vela adaptada do Naval, sendo visível nas faces dos nossos visitantes uma enorme satisfação por esta nova experiência de vida e ainda por cima tão longe de sua casa.
ATLETAS DO CNF APOIAM ATIVIDADE DE SURF ADAPTADO No dia 20 de Maio, a praia do Porto do Seixal recebeu cerca de vinte pessoas para participarem numa atividade de surf adaptado. Este foi um evento que a Associação Portuguesa de Surf Adaptado promoveu na região onde o CNF marcou presença com o treinador Prof. Pedro Cisneiros e com os surfistas Jess Dundson e Mario Henriquez, no sentido de dar apoio aos participantes em realizarem uma formação em desporto adaptado. Também esteve presente o nadador paralímpico navalista Emanuel Gonçalves, onde teve a oportunidade de adquirir formação em surf adaptado e em colaborar no evento, tendo sido esta uma mais valia para os participantes terem a oportunidade de estarem em contacto com atletas do CNF e os inspirarem a praticarem esta modalidade. Para Emanuel Gonçalves esta atividade foi “uma loucura total, sendo algo que não se explica, mas que se sente”. O surf, como atividade de integração social, promove hábitos de vida saudáveis e a superação de objetivos. Proporcionar momentos agradáveis através da prática do surf a pessoas com deficiência, um pouco por todo o país, é a razão que leva o CNF a continuar a apoiar esta atividade. Além do CNF esta atividade conta ainda com o apoio da APD – Associação Portuguesa de Deficientes – Delegação da Região Autónoma da Madeira, da ASL – Associação Sem Limites e da Associação de Promoção da Madeira.

V ENCONTRO REGIONAL DE CANOAGEM ADAPTADA PROVA-SE MAIS UM SUCESSO No dia 26 de Maio, foi realizada a quinta edição do Encontro Regional de Canoagem Adaptada, inserido na Semana do Desporto Escolar, no Centro Náutico de São Lázaro, sendo esta uma organização da Secretaria Regional de Educação e do CNF, que contou com o apoio da Associação Regional de Canoagem da Madeira e a participação dos Centros de Atividades Ocupacionais da R.A.M. Estiveram presentes cerca de 30 utentes dos vários centros ocupacionais do Funchal, na competição de canoagem adaptada, onde tiveram de efetuar provas na distância de 150 m, em K1 e K2. TORNEIO SOLIDÁRIO DE BASQUETEBOL AQUÁTICO PROVA-SE MAIS UM SUCESSO O VI Torneio Solidário teve início com a competição de minis onde estiveram atletas do Clube Amigos do Basquete e do Clube Naval do Funchal, que dividiram-se em quatro equipas para disputarem os vários jogos realizados. Terminado o torneio para os mais pequenos, teve lugar às 11h00 o esperado jogo das estrelas onde estiveram presentes 15 personalidades conhecidas da região, entre elas: Avelino Silva, Presidente da Associação de Natação da Madeira, Dr. Juan Gonçalves da Direção Regional de Juventude e Desporto, Major Sá da Zona Militar da Madeira, Duarte Oliveira, Presidente da AMDpT, Ricardo Oliveira, Diretor do Diário de Notícias da Madeira, Ricardo Vieira, WINBROKER Seguros, e ainda o atleta olímpico David Fernandes e o atleta internacional Emanuel Gonçalves.

Ficou lançado o desafio para que sejam as nossas crianças a dar continuidade à atividade, onde têm a liberdade para escolher a história que querem contar e a atividade artística que querem desenvolver.

Cardiologia assinalou no dia 27 de Maio mais um ‘Desafio do Coração – 2017’, no âmbito das comemorações do mês de Maio - mês do coração. Esta atividade, na qual o CNF é parceiro juntamente com a equipa “Confie na Nossa Mão!” do projeto “Um dia pela Vida” da Liga Portuguesa Contra ao Cancro, procura alertar a população para a problemática das doenças cardiovasculares e sensibilizar os participantes para a prática de atividade física regular e para uma alimentação saudável. Nesta iniciativa participou o Jam Kids, grupo de dança destinado a crianças entre os 3 e os 16 anos no AquaGym.

SABSEG e Lusitânia Seguros no CNF Decorreu no dia 20 de Setembro um encontro entre a SABSEG – corretora de seguros com mais de 1000 clubes desportivos assegurados por todo o país – a Lusitânia Vida – Companhia de Seguros SA – e o CNF. EDITORIAL In 2017,Clube Naval do Funchal celebrated 65 years of history, making this club one of the most emblematic social and sporting institutions of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, with solid recognition and renownnationally and internationally. Throughout the year, we have tried to mark this milestone with various activities and events, with special emphasis to the Dinner/Concert with the national artist Miguel Araújo, on April 30, and for the launch of the new website of the club, with a more contemporary design and with more functional access menus. This new platform links to social networks Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and presents an agenda of events where you can consult all the activities of the club. The contents of the new CNF website are also compatible with tablets and smartphones. We continue to improve the various facilities of the club. At our headquarters, we renovated the football field and the bar terrace, as well as the various rooms. During the summer, we opened the “Choka Bar” as a complementary offer at the end of the beach day, with themed parties and sunsets. In the Sports Complex of Nazaré, we are carrying out remodelling works in the bodybuilding room and we renovated the Pilates room. At Naval Studio Pilates you will find a personalized follow-up service according to your goals. At the sport level, we had 521 federated athletes in 2017 distributed throughout the modalities of Sailing, Canoeing, Windsurfing, Fishing, Surfing, Stand Up Paddling, Swimming, Judo and Karate and we proceeded to renew the equipment of the athletes with a new image and sponsors. In terms of major events, we organized the “Madeira SUP Challenge” for the first time in the Stand Up Paddle modality which integrated a round of the SUP National Championship and the “3rd European Conference on Scientific Diving”, which was held in Portugal for the first time. In October, we organized the fourth edition of the “Madeira Ocean Race” and the “Madeira Island International Swim Marathon” in canoeing and open water swimming. At the “6th International Congress - Sport and the Sea”, held in partnership with the University of Madeira on 27 October, the first two projects under the Territorial Cooperation Program INTERREG MAC 2014-2020, namely Ecotur_Azul and Nauticom, were presented. At this event, the Madeira 950 Open Race Regatta, that will be in the region during a week next July after starting from Livorno, Italy, was also presented. On December 15, we held a Christmas Gala where about 40 people linked to the history and activity of the club in the most diverse areas of the honored areas. Meanwhile, directors, coaches and athletes were awarded prizes divided into five categories: “António Aragão”, “Guilherme Escórcio”, “Francisco José”, “Naval of the Year” and “Américo Durão”. The event marked the closing of the 65th anniversary festivities. We ended the year with the delivery of solidarity baskets to the neediest families of the Nazaré Sports Complex, an initiative we have undertaken since 2011. As a public institution we could not remain indifferent to the reality of the surrounding community. III EUROPEAN CONFERENCE
ON SCIENTIFIC DIVING AT CLUBE NAVAL THE THIRD EDITION OF THE EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON SCIENTIFIC DIVING TOOK PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN PORTUGAL ON THE 22 AND 23 OF MARCH, 2017, IN A JOINT ORGANIZATION BETWEEN CIIMAR-MADEIRA, THE FUNCHAL MARINE BIOLOGY STATION AND CLUBE NAVAL DO FUNCHAL.
This third edition brought together 75 participants from 12 different countries, namely Portugal, Croatia, England, Spain, Finland, Italy, United States of America, Greece, France, Germany, Montenegro and Belgium. The objective was to promote an international forum of relevance in order to highlight the results that have been achieved through the use of scientif ic diving as a research tool, as well as to attract new researchers and students of this area. The f irst day of the conference was attended by the Mayor of Funchal, Mr. Paulo Cafôfo, at the of f icial opening session, as well as with the organizing committee,

I MADEIRA SUP CHALLENGE
The Madeira SUP Challenge is an international competition of Stand Up Paddle that was held for the first time in Madeira in the month of March last year. The event was supported by the Portuguese Surfing Federation and the Regional Surfing Association of Madeira and was part of a National SUP Championship stage, where Tomás Lacerda, a CNF athlete, was the U16 national champion. A 13 km event was also held between the bay of Funchal, Quinta Calaça and the Garajau Nature Reserve, providing excellent scenery of all the coastline of the city to participants. 60 athletes participated, among them the national champion of the modality and bronze medal of the European Championship of 2016, as well as an athlete of the National Spanish Selection of this modality. The second edition will take place between 7 and 11 March in the Bay of Funchal. The event will consist of a 4-day programme of activities, including tours of the bay of Funchal, workshops, tourist activities as well as the two major highlights of this event, a 12 km Marathon and a 5 km Technical Race in classes 12’6 , 14’ and All Around.

IV MADEIRA OCEAN RACE THE 4TH MADEIRA OCEAN RACE WAS HELD FROM 5 TO 8 OCTOBER WITH A FOURDAY PROGRAM DEDICATED TO THE 70 PARTICIPATING ATHLETES OF FIVE DIFFERENT NATIONALITIES. Brazil, Spain, France, Italy and Portugal were the countries present in this race that had the participation of Carlos Perez Rial, Gold Medal in OG Beijing 2008, and Nicolas Lambert – France – Current French Champion of Surf ski. OLYMPIC CANOEING FOR EVERYONE! An initiative of social inclusion was developed in parallel with the event to bring users of the Occupational Activity Centers of the Regional Secretariat of Education and 2nd and 3rd cycle students of the Horácio Bento Gouveia School together with the national team K4 Olympics – David Fernandes of CNF, João Ribeiro of SL Benfica and Emanuel Silva of Sporting Clube de Portugal. CALHETA – RIBEIRA BRAVA – FUNCHAL On October 7, the first leg between Calheta and Ribeira Brava was completed in a total of 12 km. On the 8th, the second leg took place between Ribeira Brava and Funchal, in a total of 16 km.

VI INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS SPORTS AND THE SEA
NAUTICAL ACTIVITIES, PRESENT AND FUTURE Under the theme “Promotion of Madeira’s Sea” another edition of the International Congress – Sports and the Sea took place on October 27 at the Auditorium of the Jesuit College. The event had the participation of several public and private entities in the opening session, namely the Regional Secretary for Environment and Natural Resources, Susana Prada. In her speech,the Regional Secretary emphasized the importance of supporting sports associations and encouraging young people to practice more water sports so that they can eventually pursue their careers in these areas and take better advantage of all the opportunities of the sea. The Rector of the University of Madeira, José do Carmo, praised the work of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, focusing on the research effort and the importance of young people defending their ideas and projects in this type of initiatives. In her speech,CNF’s President presented all the work of CNF in terms of nautical projects and events carried out throughout this year and presented some of the events that the club will undertake in 2018, namely the Madeira 950 Open Race Regatta and the 20th International Canaries Madeira Regatta.
Rodrigo Moreira Rato opened the 2nd panel, under the theme: “Sea, Investment and Financing” presenting the press reports and the media impact of the Volvo Ocean Race, event for which he is responsible in terms of communication. Ana Lima, a journalist specializing in communication and sports marketing, presented the various benefits that nautical events instil in the cities, namely in terms of accommodation and local commerce, giving as an example Sines and the Tall Ships Race. Carlos Lopes presented several ways to achieve business ideas by presenting incentives to support entrepreneurship and financing for new projects in the area of sports and the sea. Mário Bonança, Swimming Technician of the Paralympic Committee, presented his Master’s thesis on Open Water Swimming at the end of the 3rd panel, after the lecturers of the Physical Education and Sports Department of the University of Madeira, Rui Trindade, Ana Rodrigues and Catarina Fernando, had presented the results of the research study on Nautical Activities in the ARM and the profile of the young people practicing these modalities. The closing session was chaired by the Councillor João Pedro Vieira who largely praised the event and its contribution to the city of Funchal. The event ended with a cocktail party at Hotel Florasol.

ECOTUR _AZUL PROJECT
During the 6th International Congress – Sports and the Sea, the first two Mac 2014-2020 community projects of the club were presented, namely Ecotur_Azul and Nauticom. ECOTUR_AZUL Since January 2017, Clube Naval do Funchal has become part of an innovative joint project with partners from the Canary Islands and the Azores, following the Odyssea model, under the INTERREG MAC 2014-2020 Territorial Cooperation Program. The main objective of this project is to valorise the ecotourism potential of coastal and marine areas, namely the natural, cultural and landscape heritage, creating new opportunities for blue growth. CNF is thus part of an international network of cities with excellent nautical resources and services, which, besides presenting a great offer in terms of culture, gastronomy and natural landscapes, intends, by joining this project, to increase the potential of this city, certifying Funchal as an Odyssea city and the Marina as an Odyssea port.
Ecotur_Azul was presented at the 6th International Congress by Regis López Lang, specialist and delegate of Europe – Latin America – Caribbean – Odyssea 2020 Growth and Blue Tourism, who explained the characteristics of this innovative and dynamic model, which seeks to match access to information and communication of the various products of European cities and ports and of which the city and the Marina of Funchal will be part. The Odyssea model, he stated, “is a European model of sustainable territorial development that values the economic potential of coastal tourism, maritime cultural routes and innovative recreational navigation activities through a network of innovative coastal facilities and old sea routes”. This common and innovative model, which was created in 2008 and recognized by the European Commission as being a good practice for the sustainable development of maritime territories, defines the Ecotur_Azul project, which CNF joined as an ERDF beneficiary and representative of the city of Funchal, together with beneficiaries from the Canaries and Horta (Azores). 4th EDITION | February 2018

It is a unique sporting event, first of all because it is 100% owned by a brand, Volvo, then because it touches the four corners of the world, taking crews and boats to the limits of their resistance, requiring constant teamwork, both for the sea and landteams, it is also the longest regular sporting event, it has a 9 months duration. Due to all these characteristics, it is sought by the best sailors and is used as a platform for nautical brands and others “apparently” without connection to it. It is a competition that reinvests all its revenues in the promotion and dissemination of itself, thus guaranteeing a legion of fans that far surpasses the sailing fanatics. Let’s face it, the YouTube channel has more than 100,000 followers,

AND MADEIRA CHAMPIONSHIP OF ADAPTED SAILING / EXICTOS On May 6th and 7th, the Exictos Regional Championship in Adapted Sailing and the Álvaro Lopes Tournament, 3rd Robbialac Trophy in light sailing, took place. Inserted in the commemorations of the 65th Anniversary of Clube Naval do Funchal, the two competitions were held in the same regatta race course in the Bay of Funchal, near the coast, near the Barreirinha area, to be more precise. This is a place with excellent visibility for the spectators, who had the opportunity to witness these two great events. The two competitions took place simultaneously, and due to the good work of the regatta committee and the organization it was possible for all the planned regattas to be completed in a safe and competitive way. With regard to the Exictos Regional Championship in Adapted Sailing

in class Access 2.3 (Hansa 2.3), five athletes were enrolled, all of them from Clube Naval do Funchal. Five regattas took place and the title of Regional Champion was attributed to António Nóbrega. To complete the podium, Élvio Barradas came second and Mónica Mendonça third. Fourth came Antonio Calaça and fifth Duarte Veríssimo. The 3rd Robbialac Trophy was disputed in seven distinct classes and had 79 participants representing ANM, CNF and CTM. In this sense, in the sailboard class Techno 293 Infant, three races were held, where only two CTM athletes competed, with Inês Pontes in first place and Madalena Freitas in second place. In the Techno 293 Youth class, in third place came navalist Rodrigo Gomes, second Angelina Freitas and first Rodrigo Ferreira, both of

CTM. As for the Techno 293 Junior class, the third place was won by Tiago Sousa, a CNF athlete. In second place came Laura Pontes and first João Abreu, of CTM. In the Race board class, João Rodrigues, Alberto Rodrigues and Bruno Fernandes of the CTM completed the podium and in the Laser 4.7 class, the podium was conquered by navalists, Tomás Sousa first, Carolina Matos second and Pedro Abreu third. As for the Laser Radial (Abs.) Class, six regattas were held, and navalist Alívar Cardoso, from CNF, won the excellent second place on the podium. First was Pedro Baltazar and third was Vasco Caldeira from ANM. Finally, in class 420, the first place was conquered by the naval duo João Ferreira and António Ornelas, second came Ricardo Quaresma and Francisco G. and third Santiago Vilalobos and Tiago C. of ANM. Prior to the awards ceremony, held at the São Lázaro Nautical Post at Clube Naval do Funchal’s premises, naval President Mafalda Freitas addressed a few words, thanking the athletes, the participating clubs, the team of sea judges and all the entities present. Last but not least, she also thanked all the work carried out by the CNF Sailing team, as well as the Commodore Martim Cardoso, the Vice Commodore Ângela Figueira and the coordinator of São Lázaro, Professor Hélder Santos, ending her address with the desire of good winds for the whole sporting season. Later, the City Councillor of Funchal, Domingos Rodrigues, took the opportunity to congratulate the inclusive initiatives that the club has been promoting, indicating that “they are very important for our society”. Finally, Rubina Leal, Regional Secretary for Inclusion and Social Affairs, who was also present at the awards ceremony, stated that “Once again, CNF promotes inclusive competition and it is very important for those who
are different from us and who have had the misfortune of being born with some kind of disability. There are currently about 400 users of occupational activity centres, where they have available and practice around 20 sports modalities”. She concluded by congratulating CNF not only for its 65 years, but also for the dynamics that the club has developed in relation to its commitment with inclusive sports. The award ceremony was also attended by David Gomes, Regional Director for Youth and Sports, Nuno Sousa Pereira, Captain of the Port of Funchal, Luís Balau, representative of Robbialac, and Ana Sousa, President of the Association of People with Special Needs.

AND 5TH MIGUEL VIVEIROS TROPHY In the year that Clube Naval do Funchal celebrated its 65th anniversary, it was with great satisfaction that, on Portugal Day, the earliest sailing competition held in the Region took place, one which gives sailors one of the best sporting experiences of the season. The 9th MEO Regatta – 3rd Race of the Madeira Cruise Cup and the 5th Miguel Viveiros Trophy took place on June 10 in a regatta course between Santa Cruz and Machico, with the first rounding buoy in front of the Marina of Quinta do Lorde and the second buoy at the Ilhéu Chão near the Desertas Islands in a total of 29 miles. Ricardo Franco, Mayor of Machico, recalled that “this is another event that takes place in the city and has been the hallmark of this Municipality and also of the partners that make it happen.Year after year, we provide our young people and all those engaged in nautical activities, another opportunity to be tested in our sea and to compete. The regatta has cemented its position in terms of the nautical activities of Machico and Madeira, and it is very important for us as far as the sea is concerned.
The Municipality has been making an effort to allocate 40% more support to clubs and associations that are involved in activities related to the sea. As a result, we have been able to make nautical practice happen and there are more young people in our bay”. The organization of this great regatta has also been made possible thanks to the joint work with the Madeira Regional Sailing Association, as well as the support, for 9 years now, of the MEO brand and the Miguel Viveiros brand, which, in addition to supporting the traditional competition of young windsurfers, will include a Stand Up Paddle Board competition. According to Miguel Viveiros, the continuity of this partnership is due to the fact that “we are linked to MEO and the headquarters of our company is here in Machico. As for our partnership with CNF, it has been going well and we make an effort to maintain this event and do our best to make it happen. Furthermore, the Miguel Viveiros Trophy aims to encourage the participation of youngsters and to stimulate them to win a prize”. According to David Gomes, Youth and Sports Director,”this is an event that contributes to the development of regional sport. It is a competition which enhances the excellence and quality of the sea and encourages the promotion of the beautiful line of Machico bay. On the other hand, it reflects well the sailor spirit of the countrymen from Madeira”. The Desertas Regatta, as it is best known among sailing lovers, is the oldest sports competition organized by Clube Naval do Funchal (CNF). According to Jorge Sequeira, Commercial Director of PT in the Region, “a set of conditions and entities are united and come together in the organization of this regatta which has been a success year after year. It is also a privileged way of contacting our customers and showcasing our products and services”. VI RIM REGATTA

Between August 13 and 15, the 6th RIM Regatta – Madeira – Porto Santo took place, one of the most emblematic Cruiser Regattas that mark the holidays of all Madeirans in Porto Santo. Sponsored by RIM Construções for the 6th consecutive year and with the support of a group of partners, namely Madeira Regional Sailing Association, Porto Santo Naval Club, Municipality of Porto Santo, Brisa Maracujá, Copo Vinhos and Hotel Vila Baleira, the public presentation took place on the premises of Clube Naval do Porto Santo, in the presence of the various representatives of the institutions concerned with the organization of the event. The start of the first leg took place on August 11, at 8:00 p.m. off Santa Cruz. With favourable winds between 10 and 15 knots from the Northwest quadrant, the vessels Alf, Medeta, Happy Hour, Bombay, Aye, Red Ruth, Hzmm, Alquaholic, Swing and Frederica Devónia left for Porto Santo in this first leg with an approximate distance of 31 nautical miles. By 11 p.m., the yacht Swing had already taken the lead with half the distance covered. It was, however, overtaken by the Frederica Devónia which arrived first at the Golden Isle at 02:45 a.m.
The rest of the ships followed arriving until dawn, having the last one arrived at around 05:40 a.m. After a well-deserved rest, the sailors had lunch at Hotel Vila Baleira, where a symbolic prize was awarded to the winners of each class. In the second leg, with winds between 10 and 15 knots and mild sea, all the vessels arrived at the island of Madeira on August 15 towards the end of the day. The awards ceremony took place on September 7, preceding the traditional White Party at Clube Naval. In a light and relaxed atmosphere, the third prize was awarded to representatives of the vessel Bombay, followed by the second qualified, the vessel Swing and finalized with the great winner of the Regatta, the vessel Frederica Devónia, owned by Lourenço Cardoso, of CNF.

VII FUNCHAL CITY TOURNAMENT It was with great satisfaction and pride that CNF again organized in 2017 the Funchal City Tournament, a tournament that since its first edition counts with the support of the Municipality of Funchal and aims not only to maintain the competitive level among the athletes of the swimming modality, but also to promote sportsmanship among young people and clubs and to involve the city of Funchal with sport. This edition counted again with an invited team, this time SG Neuss from Germany, which brought an entourage of 22 athletes. It is worth mentioning the presence of Aaron Schmidt - National Champion in 1500 m free Juvenile A and swimmer of the German national team, and also Cedric Büssing - Champion and German National Recorder of the 200 m back. These athletes came to the region not only to enrich the competitive level of the competition, but also to share knowledge with the younger ones. In addition to this team, there were 230 swimmers from 10 clubs: Associação Desportiva de Machico, Clube Desportivo do Nacional, ClubeDesportivoRecreativoSantanense , ClubeDesportivo São Roque, Clube Escola O Liceu, Clube Sport Marítimo, JuventudeAtlânticoClube , LudensClube de Machico, the German team SG Neuss and Clube Naval do Funchal. CNF also had the honour of receiving their former coach, Ivan Abreu, who came for the first time to the region as coach of the German team. In this sense, CNF paid him a tribute in the form of gratitude and recognition for his contribution to the club’s swimming modality during the years in which he worked with us.

NAZARÉ’S SPORTS COMPLEX
The event took place at the Nazaré Sports Complex on April 15, and the morning was dedicated to the competition of federated swimming categories, such as cadets, infant juniors, juniors, seniors and Masters. Competition was conducted in the following styles: Free (50, 100 and 200m), Back (50, 100 and 200m), Breaststroke (100 and 200 metres ), Butterfly (100 and 200m), Styles (200m) and Relay (4x50m styles and free). As for the podiums, a total of 162 medals were awarded and 200 participationmedals were given to the cadets who were present at the competition. Juan Gonçalves, representing the Regional Directorate for Youth and Sports, Duarte Caldeira, President of the São Martinho Parish Council, Avelino Silva, President of the Madeira Swimming Association

Vice-President of Club Naval of Funchal were the ones who awarded the medals.
As for the afternoon, it was reserved for a festival for the clubs’ schools. For this purpose, 4-station circuits were performed: * Starts; * Swimming Technique; * 2 Stations of obstacles. This circuit was great fun for the little ones who participated. At the end, participation certificates were handed out. During the day, especially from lunch onwards and during the afternoon, at the club’s sports center, there was entertainment with traditional food and drinks and all the money raised through the sale of food and drinks reverted to support the swimming department of CNF.
The 7th Funchal Tournament was organized by Clube Naval do Funchal and had the partnership of the Municipality of Funchal, the Regional Directorate for Youth and Sports, the Parish Council of São Martinho and the Madeira Swimming Association. It also had the support of Bioforma, Empresa de Cervejas da Madeira and Crepes Delícia.

NAZARÉ’S SPORTS COMPLEX
II NAVAL BATTLE As part of the celebrations of the 19th Anniversary of the Nazaré Sports Complex, the 2nd Naval Battle, following the previous year’s example, emphasized the success of the partnership of the various services of Clube Naval do Funchal, such as the AquaGm Gymnasium, Naval Box and the Pool Complex. Comprised of a dynamic, fun and challenging set of games, this year included several skill and strategy competitions, allied to physical exercise and with great focus on teamwork. The games, which had the participation of 16 mixed teams composed of 4 elements (two feminine and two masculine), consisted in finalizing all the tests, divided in 8 stations, distributed throughout the whole complex. The teams, which were composed by AquaGm users, as well as technical staff and members of Clube Naval do Funchal, started the competition simultaneously at the different stations, according to the guidelines provided to each of them at the beginning. B etween running around the complex, swimming while transporting team mates on a raft, fishing in the
pool, shooting ducks and the golden egg hen, it ended, as it should, with a pork skewer barbecue outside the complex, followed by the award of the prizes to the winning teams and the cutting of the birthday cake. This year, the winning team, led by Ricardo Rodrigues, won with an impressive 985 points. It was an event marked by fun, conviviality, fair play and team spirit. An excellent event, driving at the get-togetherness of this great Clube Naval do Funchal family . And it ended with the promise to surpass this year’s edition in the 3rd edition, to take place already next year.

We were in conversation with the new person in charge of this space, Professor Miguel Moreira, to get to know Naval Studio Pilates better.

AQUAGYM BIKE CLUB On November 5, 10 members of the AquaGym Bike Club, members and users of outdoor bike rides, made 47 km on a pleasant Sunday tour. Leaving from Poiso, descending to Santo da Serra, complete Levada da Serra until the field of Nacional and ending with a descent to Funchal, the team presented the official equipment that has the sponsorship of MZ:Bike.
SÃO SILVESTRE RACE Aquagym in the TOP 15 of the São Silvestre race It was on December 28, that the city of Funchal was, once again, to be a race track for another S. Silvestre, one of the country’s most popular athletics events totalling 5,850 m. As usual, Clube Naval was present with the team CNF/Óptica da Sé, which, since 2013, participates in this and all the other regional calendar athletics events , as well as some national ones. Rebecca Sousa was the first woman of the CNF/Óptica da Sé team and David Fernandes was the first of the men to cross the finishing line, being the best athlete of this team. Ricardo Rodrigues was the AquaGym instructor with the best result. Henrique Araújo was the winner in Juveniles and Filipe Araújo in Juniors, as Isabel Teixeira in women’s. InU23s, Joana Abreu was the best, while in Veterans 35 André Spínola and Mónica Silva were the first of the team to cross the finishing line in this echelon. Bruno Menezes and Licínia Macedo won in Veterans 40 and in Vet 45 it was Patrícia Dantas and Ricardo Melim who had the best results. In Veterans 50, E usébio André and Dalila Perneta were the ones who stood out with João Botelho in the Vet 55 echelon. Arlindo Freitas and Mendes de Almeida were the best of the team in Veterans 60 and 65, respectively. These results put the team in the TOP 15 of this race which counted 3049 participants, with the CNF/Óptica team represented by 75 enrolled in the total.

CANOEING CNF Canoeists win podiums at the Regional Sea Canoeing Championship On 17 March, the Regional Sea Canoeing Championship took place on a course between Santa Cruz and Funchal in a distance of 14.5 km. As for the performance of Clube Naval do Funchal, it was very positive. As far as individual classifications were concerned, they stood out in the podiums. In the category of Senior SS2, Pedro Mendes and Bruno Afonso of CNF won the first place followed in second place by the pair Rúben Freitas/Tiago Afonso (CTM). Third came Daniel Ferreira/Emanuel Nóbrega (ANCL). As for the SS1 Senior category, the navalists dominated the podium with Marco Gomes first, Válter Andrade second and Mário Pereira third. In the women’s category SS1 Senior Women, the canoeist of Naval, Carlota Duarte, came first, with Maria Carreira of CNC second.

On April 1, Naval canoeists participated in the National Long Distance Championship, held in Melres (Gondomar).
CNF coach and athlete, Marco Gomes and David Fernandes, competed in November in the World Championship of Sea Canoeing in Hong Kong. The athletes participated in the Senior men’s SS1 class alongside the best in the world in this canoeing discipline. To take advantage of the opportunity, the athletes promoted the 5th Madeira Ocean Race that is scheduled for September 22 and 23, 2018. For this purpose some information leaflets about the event and the island of Madeira were distributed. Among the 48 canoeists who managed to pass the four check points within the time limit, David Fernandes came in 22nd with 1:47:01 and Marco Gomes in 28th with 1:51:24 in a 22 km race. For the Olympic David Fernandes, “It was a fantastic experience. Despite having some knowledge of surf ski, I still have a lot to evolve. In the near future, who knows... In the first 7 km of race, I had some difficulty with the balance of the boat, but when we reached the downwind part I felt more comfortable and managed to recover some positions. For the preparation I have at this stage, I can say that I am satisfied with the result”. For Marco Gomes, “(...) the result could have been better but the conditions were fantastic and it was an incredible experience to compete with a world surf ski elite which is getting stronger and stronger”.
In terms of how they qualified, in Senior K1, David Fernandes performed well, getting ranked in 4th place completing the race with the following time: 00:20:52.35. Rodolfo Neves came in 25th place, Gonçalo Neves in 38th place, Válter Andrade in 49th place and Pedro Mendes in 56th place. A total of 40 clubs and 146 athletes participated in this championship. On Sunday, 2nd, the competition was reserved for the Portuguese Cup of Long Distance Crews, where Clube Naval do Funchal was also present with doubles. As far as qualifying in K2 Senior is concerned, the Naval duo Marco Gomes and David Fernandes managed to reach the podium in 3rd place, a place deserved after all the effort and dedication they demonstrated in this competition. Still in K2, Rodolfo and Gonçalo Neves competed, finishing in sixth place. The K4 Seniors were also sixth, despite having an excellent performance. The number of clubs competing in this competition was higher, with 47 clubs and 1003 athletes present.

The Light Sailing Championship, that was supposed to unfold over two days, saw its first day reduced to only one regatta, as the weak wind did not meet the conditions necessary for the entire regatta programme. On Sunday, there was a reversed scenario, and despite the inconstant wind, the three planned regattas took place. CNF – the most medaled club of CJB’s Anniversary Tournament Clube Judo Brava, with the support of the Judo Association of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, held its anniversary tournament on May 13. The competitions took place in the gymnasium of the 2nd and 3rd grade João Jacinto Gonçalves de Andrade School, in Campanário, and counted with the participation of athletes of Clube Judo Brava, Clube Naval do Funchal, Judo Clube Madeira, Grupo Desportivo da Apel, Clube Mar e Serra, Juventude Atlântico Clube and athletes from the School Sport centre of Escola do Campanário. The celebrations included the Tournament of Benjamins, for athletes from 4 years to 10 years of age, and the Zéponês Tournament, for the levels of Infants, Initiates and Juveniles. In the Zéponês Tournament, Clube Naval do Funchal stood out with 6 gold medals. They were collected in Infants by Ana Aguiar (-40kg) and Guilherme Morais (-35kg), in Initiates by Afonso Fernandes (-54kg) and Guilherme Freitas (-65kg) and in Juniors by José Abreu (-55kg) and Rui Costa (-42kg). KARATE 3 bronze medals and 1 gold in the National Championship On March 18, at the Caniço pavilion, the National Championship – Regional Phase of Karate for Children, Initiates and Juveniles took place, at which CNF was present with 9 athletes. The children Rodrigo Vasconcelos and Tiago Pestana, the initiates Vera Fernandes, Inês Moniz, Rodrigo Silva and João Castro, and the Juveniles Lucas Oliveira, João Gonçalves and Gonçalo Silva were present. In kumite initiates two Naval athletes competed: Rodrigo Silva and João Castro. The two karate fighters won their first fights by 3-2 and 5-0 respectively. In the next qualifying round João entered the fight trying to immediately gain advantage but lost some of the impetus more towards the end of the combat, allowing the rise of the opponent. Nevertheless, in the end he managed to gather the majority of the judges’ support, achieving the much-desired gold medal. Meanwhile, Rodrigo Silva was retaken to the 3rd place match and beat his opponent 3-2 taking the bronze medal home. Finally, it was time for the Juveniles Lucas Oliveira and João Gonçalves to compete. Lucas had in his first qualification round, which would give him access to the final, the task of beating a difficult adversary. It was a 2-0 victory, resulting from a circular technique of legs to the trunk of the opponent, but near the end of the fight the opponent managed to score 3 points, the result of a circular technique of legs to Lucas’s head in which he could not defend himself losing by 2-3. Even so, he won the 2nd place.
Karate with four regional champions The Regional Championship of Cadets/Juniors/Under 21/Seniors and the Regional Championship of Clubs in the modality of Karate took place on 12 November, at the Caniço pavilion. CNF added four regional titles, three for men and one for women. In Men, Kumite Cadets +70 kg, Francisco Câmara was the great winner, whereas in Kumite -75 kg, it was Bruno Meneses who conquered the first place of the podium. Ricardo Gomes was also the winner in Kumite +84 kg. Lisa Camacho was the great winner in Kata Senior Women. In addition to these four highest places on the podium, Gustavo Gonçalves was third in the Kumite -60 kg Senior and second in the Kumite -60 kg U21. Naval dominates in the 2nd Stage of the Regional Surf Circuit The athletes of Clube Naval do Funchal were in great prominence in the 2nd Stage of the Brisa Regional Open Surf Circuit 2017 powered by Csantos VP. This event, which took place on September 9 on the waves of Porto da Cruz, was attended by 15 athletes from Clube Naval do Funchal, who, according to expectations, marked their presence with great performances and places on the podium. Thus, the great highlight goes to Tomás Lacerda , the great winner, who reached first place in the Open, followed by Lourenço Faria in 2nd , João Pessoa in 3rd and yet Bernardo Correia in 4th. In great evidence was also Jessica Dunsdon, who was champion of the Women’s Open and who shared the podium with her colleague Matilde Faria ranked 3rd.
Surfing team in Porto Santo As is usual at the end of the sport season, the surf department of Clube Naval do Funchal organized a training session for its athletes from the training, pre-competition and competition groups on the Golden Island. In addition to enjoying the excellent sea conditions that this island offers for the practice of this modality, the athletes had fundamental moments of socialization to foster the spirit of belonging to the group as well as training courses of technical improvement and physical endurance. Male Surfers Regional Surf Champions On May 6, Port of Cruz was the scene for the dispute of the 3rd stage of the Brisa Regional Surf Expectations Circuit. The race began early on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the semi-finals of U18 where navalists Tomás Lacerda, Bernardo Correia and Nilton Freitas guaranteed their passage to the grand finale. Already with a little fullertide, there was still the opportunity to launch the women’s category to the water, where Naval surfer Matilde Faria and CDN surfer Verónica Silva, in Sub-16, disputed the first place. Matilde Faria ended up performing very well and giving her adversary a hard time but, notwithstanding, did not make it to the first position.
The great goal of CNF was reached, having achieved the largest number of male Regional Champions. Five victories, being in first place, in U12, Enzo Aznar, in U14,N ilton Freitas, in U16 Women, Matilde Faria and in U16 and U18, Tomás Lacerda. As for the remaining surfers, although they did not reach the first place, they had excellent performances, as two CNF athletes were in the U12 final, in U14, all the finalists were also of the club, as was the case with the U16 and U18 final . These results and performances of the surfers of Clube Naval do Funchal come as a continuation of last year’s performance and, according to André Rodrigues, “this stage enabled us to see that the regional championship is more competitive and gives us many indicators to work on for the second stage”. It was a Sunday with a great surf show, at a place that is already a reference for lovers of this modality. This was an event jointly organized by the Surf Association of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and Clube Desportivo Nacional.
After a pause in the competition, due to the lack of minimal swell conditions, the competition was resumed in the afternoon, at 3:00 p.m. with the U16 semi-finals, where Tomás Lacerda , João Silva (CDN), Nilton Freitas and Bernardo Correia performed well gaining a place in the final. Soon after, the finals of all the categories took place where, in the U12,C NF’s Enzo Aznar won thus becoming Regional Champion, after the 3rd stage with 3000 points, the same having happened to Nilton Freitas (CNF), U14 Regional Champion. Tomás Lacerda (CNF) was also an U16 Regional Champion with 3000 points, having won

SWIMMING Training of swimming for babies and adaptation to the aquatic environment A training session was held on June 17 and 18 at the Nazaré Pools Complex, given by the trainer Rita Pinto with the aim of analysing the challenges of the classes of babies from 6 months to 3 years of age, as well as the adaptation to the aquatic environment of children from 3 to 5 years of age. With the presence of 25 trainees, most of whom were technicians of the club, the training sessions had a theoretical part in the two days, ending each day with two practical sessions so that the trainees could experience the topics addressed in the mornings. This was another training event included in the annual training plan of the club, with the aim of making our technical team more and more knowledgeable and competent.
Funchal Eco Swim and São Pedro hand in hand As is traditional in the activity of CNF, on June 28th, Quinta Calaça bay received the open waters, Funchal Eco Swim, which, since 2016, has been inserted in the festivities of the ’Arraial de São Pedro’ organized by the club. In a competition that had three races with distances of 500, 1000 and 2000 m, athletes competed according to their competitive level. The first start was given at 6h30 p.m. and was aimed at young people who were starting their activity in open water swimming, while the 1000 and 2000 meter competitions started simultaneously at 6h45 p.m., with the athletes of the shortest race to cover only one lap of the course and the other, two laps. In terms of results, in the 500 meter event, the first three athletes were in the cadet category, children aged 11/12, with Diogo Oliveira of Naval reaching the top of the podium, while André Dias of Nacional came in second and Rodrigo Boulhosa, also of Naval, was third. In terms of women, the winner was Juvenile Filipa Gonçalves, a popular athlete, followed by Marcelis Hernandez, also popular, and third and only 10 years of age, the athlete of National, Júlia Dias. 4th EDITION | February 2018

In second place came Beatriz Lameiras of the WOS Team and in third place was the popular Tânia Alves. Finally, in the 2000 meters men, the winner was for the Senior Luís Pedro Silva of Nacional, followed by the Master João Pedro Sousa of Desportivo São Roque, the last place of the podium being for the popular Duarte Vieira. Also noteworthy was the excellent performance of Master Rui Pereira of Naval, who reached the fourth position overall. In women, the winner was the Master Catarina Alves of Nacional, followed by Masters of Naval, Mayra Santos and Catarina Silva, who were second and third respectively. A final note to highlight the presence of about 40 children who competed in a 200 metre race between the two piers of the Bay of Quinta Calaça, as a way to start preparing future entries in upcoming open water events.
Naval doubly Vice National Champion It was on the 4th Round of the Portugal Open – National Juvenile Championship and Swimming Absolute, held on July 20, 21, 22 and 23, at Jamor, that Clube Naval do Funchal was twice a National Vice-Champion by the hands of André Deus and Tomás Silva, in the 100m free and 400m style races respectively. The Championship, which took place at the Jamor Olympic Swimming Pools Complex in Lisbon (p50m ), was attended by 758 swimmers (403 men and 355 women) from 129 clubs. In great evidence in men were Tomás Silva, Juvenile A, who became vice-national champion with a new personal record of 4:48.23 in the 400m styles, and Andre Deus, Juvenile B, who won the title of vice-national champion, breaking the regional record of 1:08.89 and surpassing the 1:09.22 previously established by himself in the qualifiers. This swimmer also participated in the juvenile finals B obtaining the 9th place in the 100m free and the 10th position in the 200m free. Tomás also participated in the juvenile A 200m breaststroke final reaching a 5th place overall. In juniors, Miguel Gomes, with two B finals in the 50m and 100m butterfly competitions, managed to finish in a 7th and 9th position respectively, while Afonso Sequeira obtained two new personal records, in the two A finals in the 100m and 200m butterfly, conquering the 10th place; the same result was obtained by Junior Martim Silva Júnior with a B final in the 100 m butterfly. SUP Ricardo Rodrigues on the podium of the 3rd round of the SUP National Circuit The third round of the SUP Technical Race National Circuit in Matosinhos took place on May 21. In representation of Clube Naval do Funchal was Ricardo Rodrigues, who reached an excellent third place. Rúben Afonso came second and Filipe Meira first. According to the navalist athlete, this was a “very well organized race, with a very well designed course and with many buoy roundings, some of them inside the surf zone, near the beach”. Ricardo Rodrigues had the misfortune of having recently had a lumbar injury, but said that “being housed in the high-performance centre of Viana was great, in the sense that I had the help of a physiotherapist who helped me much to improve and to be able to participate in the competition”. Regarding the competition, he also stressed that “in preparation for the start, I was caught a bit off guard. When the start was signalled, I was still in preparation and did not have a perfect start, considering that I had a late start in relation to the other athletes. However, as I was physically fit, I recovered over the race and I ended up in third place, which was great”.
Regional Champions in Sub 16 and Sub 10 During the morning of November 4, the 7th and last race of the regional circuit of SUPRace 2017 took place in Funchal bay. The event, organized by the Madeira Regional Surf Association in partnership with CNF and CTM, was divided by classes of Sub 10, Sub 12, Sub 14, Sub 16, Sub 18, Open 12,6’’ and 14’’ feet, and yet by the open class “All Around”. Carlota Rodrigues, Naval Sub 10 athlete, became regional champion in this event, having once again reached the 1st place in her class, followed by her colleague Maria Amélia. In men Sub 10, Mateus Freitas was the second to cut the finishing line. In Sub 12, Tiago Jardim was second as well as his colleague Margarida Silva in women. navalist João Jardim was the second fastest in Sub 14 as well as Lara Freitas in women. In U16, it was Tomás Lacerda who stood out in this class and won the title of regional Sub 16 champion. Tomás also participated in the Open 14 class’’ conquering the 2nd position, shortly after João Rodrigues of CTM. Overall, the 16-year-old athlete was the 5th fastest.

TRAINING SCHOOLS AND COMPETITION Tomás Lacerda SUP Race Marathon National Champion On the first day of the Madeira SUP Challenge competition, the international Stand Up Paddle Board competition was part of the first competition of the SUP Race Marathon National Championship of Sub 15 men and women’s championship on 12.6 boards. From the start, Tomás Lacerda started out in relation to the other participants. The athlete crossed the finishing line after 32 minutes and 39 seconds of the match referring, being National Camp of SUP Race Marathon “at home”. “This victory is unforgettable because I never really believed I could win as this is not my modality. My priority is Surf and, supposedly, today I would be present in the third round of the Lisbon Circuit, but since there was this championship here in the region, all the more being organized by my club, it is really an honour to represent Clube Naval do Funchal, all the more with a conquered victory. As for the competition, being it the first time that I am national champion in any sport, it is something unforgettable and that I will remember. Although Surf is my modality and I give it priority, I hope I can practice Stand Up Paddle more often. Now that I have this title, I will take this modality seriously”, stated the athlete at the end of this event which took place in March.
SUP Team conquers Porto Santo Seven of the twelve CNF Stand Up Paddle athletes took the podium in the sixth round of the SUP regional circuit. The event, which took place in Porto Santo at the beginning of October, was very positive for the entourage of athletes who overall did very well, as stated by the coach, Ricardo Rodrigues. Tomás Lacerda was first in Sub 16, thus guaranteeing the title of regional champion in his echelon. He later participated in the main course in class 14.0 and finished fourth overall and second in class 14. In Sub 10, Carlota Rodrigues was the first female, Vasco Mata was fourth and Mateus Freitas third. In Sub 12 echelon, Margarida Silva climbed to third place on the podium and Constança Câmara to second. In males, Tiago Jardim reached the fourth place, followed by his colleague João Mata. In Sub 14, it was Catarina Afonso who won the second place while João Nuno Jardim secured the first place. Lara Rodrigues was fifth in Sub 16 and Tomás Lacerda was first. Finally, in the Open 12.6, Ricardo Rodrigues was second.

National Champion in Kumit Male Beginners - 54kg On May 27, at the Barreiro Municipal Pavilion in Lisbon, CNF’s Karate athlete João Castro was National Champion of Beginners of the National Karate Federation – Portugal, in the category of Kumite (combat) -54kg after having been Regional Champion. The competition was attended by 162 clubs and 627 athletes. After winning the first and third round, both by 4-1, passing to the final of the pool in the eliminatory of access to the final, he faced a very strong opponent, resulting in a very balanced fight which he only managed to overcome in the final moments, winning by 3-2 . In the final, he faced SKD Pena cova’s athlete João Seco, against whom he had competed and won in the APKS National Championship the previous month. According to Bruno Menezes, “a strategy was drawn up based on the knowledge we had of this opponent, which resulted in a redundant 5-0 victory, thus making João Castro National Champion of the FNKP.
César Nicola judo The CNF athlete and coach of Judo reached two outstanding results in 2017 which place this veteran in the national top of this modality in its echelon. Thus, it was on March 5, in Coimbra, that César Nicola rose to the top of the podium of the National Veterans Championship. After this victory, the CNF coach for more than 13 years, was also the great winner of the National Championship of Katas, which took place in May in Faro, again winning the title of national champion.

Afonso Gonçalves judo This Saturday, Saint Martin’s day, an entourage of judokas from Madeira participated in the Lisboa Open Cadet Tournament, which served to qualify for the National Championship of the sport. AfonsoGonçalves , at -73K g, with three wins, returned to Madeira with Bronze on his chest. This athlete had been national youth champion in 2016 and, since becoming cadet in 2017, had not yet made it to the national podium.

Susana Sousa Gomes, who in 2017 beat several national records, competed in the tests of Competitive Swimming Echelon D (40-44 years) in 50, 100 and 800m Free; 50 and 100m Butterfly. After a brilliant seventh place in the 100m freestyle event, reached in the same competition, the Madeiran won the diploma and the respective medal for the sixth place reached in the distance of 50 m Butterfly, with the mark of 29”95, setting a new national record.

CELEBRATION OF THE 65TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT DINNER WITH MIGUEL ARAÚJO
Concert by Miguel Araújo was the main protagonist of CNF’s 65th birthday party On April 30, at the headquarters of Clube Naval do Funchal, the 25 and 50 year emblems were handed over to the members who completed these periods as effective paying members of CNF, in a total of 108 members. The ceremony began at 7:30 p.m. with the Naval President, Mafalda Freitas, addressing a few words to everyone present, praising and thanking everyone for their presence, as well as the fact that they had been active and participative members in the life of the club. According to Daniela Aguiar, one of the members with the 25-year-old emblem, “I became a member through my father, who at the time believed that the club was the safest place for us to go to the beach. In fact, this is a factor that has not changed over the years, and I also have my children practice various modalities at the club, as well as going to the beach here”. The testimony of Daniela Aguiar shows that CNF is a family club that continues to train generations, a fact that José Branco, one of the five members awarded the gold emblem, referring to the 50 years during which he has been a member, also acknowledged.

After awarding the emblems, there was a toast to celebrate the 65 years of the club. Soon after, at 8:00 p.m., a moment of conviviality took place with a buffet dinner, where all those who wished to celebrate this event could be present. There were members, clients, partners, managers and other CNF friends present at the dinner, which took place in the solarium of the headquarters, with an excellent atmosphere and a very pleasant late afternoon at the seaside. After dinner, the highlight of the celebrations began, with music as the protagonist, through the more intimate concert by Miguel Araújo. The singer entertained everyone present, with his humour, as well as with his songs. The singer of the famous and known song “The Husband of Others” said that this concert had a different scenario, in which “the real scenario was the landscape, where I sometimes looked and heard the sea. I have played near the sea, such as in the bay of Cascais, but it is not the same thing. Here we were unbelievably close to the sea, which made the concert more special”. This was the fifth time the singer had been to Madeira Island, where he played two new songs from his new album “Giestas”, which was presented three days before the concert at Clube Naval do Funchal. When the concert was over, DJ Phill Me came into action, cheering everyone up to the sound of more alternative music in the after party.

WATERCOLOUR EXHIBITION FERNANDO LEMOS GOMES Following the festivities of the club’s 65 years, Fernando Lemos Gomes again displayed his paintings at Quinta Calaça, headquarters of CNF on April 29. The theme chosen this time was “Emotion and Leisure”, based on the nautical context, depicting many of the vessels that were part of the history of sailing in Madeira, as well as many landscapes throughout the archipelago. According Naval’s President, Mafalda Freitas, “my highlight goes to the painting of the vessel ‘Albatroz’, which won the first regatta between Lisbon and Madeira, and it was that regatta, in 1950, that gave rise to Clube Naval do Funchal”. Amongst his twenty watercolours, Fernando Lemos explained that his paintings have two aspects, theoretical and documentary. At the theoretical level, the author illustrated daily life, through boats, from the old to the new, thus translating painting into an artistic valence, which is decorative. On the other hand, Lemos Gomes wanted to make his illustrations a documentary archive, depicting the 90s. About twenty people were present at the inauguration, including members of the CNF’s Board, the sculptor Ricardo Velosa and others members of the club and friends of the painter. The Councillor of the Municipality of Funchal, Madalena Nunes, was also present and spoke a few words about the celebrations of the 65 years of CNF stating that “it is in an eclectic way that the club celebrates its birthday. This is visible in its program of festivities, sports, both in the pool and in the sea, inclusive sport, art linked to the sea and also awards given to members. This is because the club is also made of people and it is they who give the club its identity. This illustrates well the great work that has been done”. She finished with a few words addressed to the author of the exhibition, congratulating him for his watercolours. Fernando Lemos Gomes is Madeiran, born in 1940 and was a former member of Clube Naval. Living for several years now in Lisbon, he was an art painter at the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon and was a founding member of the Portuguese Design Association. He was also professor of Design at the Instituto de Artes Plásticas do Funchal and member of the Board and Head of the Technical-Artistic Department of the Handicrafts Institute of Madeira. The exhibition was open until June 30.

PAINTING EXHIBITION CARMO DIONÍSIO Carmo Dionísio at Clube Naval Within the framework of the program of festivities for the 65th anniversary of CNF, a painting exhibition was held at the Mother House of the Social Headquarters, from September 15 to October 1, by Maria Carmo Dionísio, a renowned Madeiran artist, with works at the “Portas da Cidade”, in the Old Town, Churches and Schools of the Region and winner of the Lady Diana Award 2013/2014 awarded by the Lady Diana Walfer association (NGO).The collection consisted of 26 oil paintings and pastel on canvas and was inspired by multiple themes, focusing mainly on her knowledge and passion for Greco-Roman mythology.
WHITE PARTY The original White Party As is the tradition within the activities of Clube Naval, on September 9th, with the organization of Cultural Urbana, the original White Party, themed with music from the 80s and 90s and the dress code white, took place. Open to the general public from 11:00 p.m., the party’s great guest artists were Cotonetes com Açúcar, DJ Phill Me and DJ João Canada, who delighted several generations of club members and closed the summer in the best possible way. The next white party will take place on September 8th, part of the 20th International Canaries Madeira Regatta.

He also became well known due to his action in the reception of foreign yachtsmen who arrived in Funchal, and also due to his participation in regattas and sailing cruises in our archipelago. They praised the facilities found on the ‘hospitable island’, thanks to the collaboration of this local yachtsman, as well as his culinary specialties, among them the famous ‘Arroz à Catanho’ which he served to visitors. This meeting took place in May. In June, the guest was Rodrigo Moreira Rato, responsible for communication of the Volvo Ocean Race in Portugal and the Extreme Sailing Series Madeira. Being one of the prominent names in the nautical activities scene, with special emphasis on sailing, Rodrigo Moreira Rato was warmly welcomed by the representative bodies of the club and other participants, having the opportunity to visit the club’s bathing complex. During the luncheon, he made known much of what he does and the interactions he triggers in order to make projects of great sporting interest visible and feasible in the media and in promoting the destinations where they take place, thus sharing knowledge and interesting moments with everyone. As part of the Blue Flag program of CNF and Funchal Marina, and taking advantage of the visit of Isabel Lissner, international coordinator of the Blue Flag Program, and Catarina Gonçalves, national coordinator of the same award to the region, a sea surface cleaning event with ecological means took place on 29 July. The activity, which was carried out on a sea route between São Lázaro and Quinta Calaça, was praised by Isabel Lissner, who on her first visit to the region was pleasantly surprised by all the work developed in this area. Also pleased with the action and happy with the invitation was Catarina Gonçalves, who highly complimented the action of environmental education and quality of the bathing water. This event was followed by the Malta do Calhau lunch, which also had the presence of Susana Fontinha, Regional Director of Territory and Environment, and during which the general objectives of the Blue Flag could be debated as well as the presentation of other programs at the European level like EcoEscolas and GreenKey.

CHRISTMAS GALA Clube Naval do Funchal held a Christmas Gala on December 15 that took place in the Ambassador Room of Hotel Bungavília and which also marked the closing of the year of festivities of the club’s 65th anniversary. For this reason, several people related to the club’s activity and history were honoured and prizes were awarded based on several categories. Therefore, the António Aragão Award, one of the most emotional of the evening, signaled the members who have been affiliated in the club since its foundation. This award was given to the members Sidónio de Gouveia, Dalila da Conceição Henriques , Vasco Catanho José and Vitor Moreira de Caires. The Guilherme Escórcio Prize was awarded to employees who have been at the club for at least 25 years, including Manuel Adelino, Miguel Freitas, Fátima Melim , Anabela Silva and Joaquim Fernandes. Also, the collaborators who led modalities of CNF to grow were honored with the Francisco José Prize, among them César Nicola, judo coach at the Naval for 13 years, Fernando Araújo in the modality of swimming, Oscar Camacho, in underwater activities, Rui Fontes , first director of the sport fishing modality and also Pedro Correia in Adapted Sailing since 2006.
As usual at the end of the year, the Naval Awards of the Year were awarded to the athletes who not only performed well in sports, but also performed well socially and academically. Thus, in Canoeing, the athletes Carlota Duarte and Luís Garcias were highlighted. In Judo, it was Rui Costa to deserve the homage and in Karate, Lisa Camacho and João Castro. In Swimming, Marta Ferreira was the featured athlete as well as Martim Cunha e Silva. In Fishing, it was Oliver Gabriel who took the prize home while in Stand Up Paddle it was Constança Câmara that deserved the highlight of the year. Tomás Lacerda , was seconded with two prizes, accumulating Stand Up Paddle and Surf. In Sailing it was Tiago Sousa to be the Naval of the Year.

Because this was a year of special celebrations and events, the people who contributed to this event were also highlighted with the Américo Durão P rize, namely André Cunha, for organizing the Funchal City International Tournament, Humberto Fernandes, for the Madeira Ocean Race, Igor Aguiar and Tânia Monteiro, for Madeira Cross Games and, finally, Ricardo Rodrigues for the Madeira SUP Challenge. Representing CIIMAR Madeira, Pedro Neves received the award as well as Mafalda Freitas for the Marine Biology Station, both for the contribution in the organization of the III European Diving Conference that took place at the headquarters of CNF. Cristina Freitas for the activity Hora do Conto (Story Time), Alexandra Melim for the decoration of the headquarters, Fernando Lemos Gomes for the exhibition “ Emoção e Lazer” (“ Emotion and Leisure” ), Ivan Abreu for the Madeira Island International Swim Marathon, Rui Trindade , representing the University of Madeira for the International Congress - Sport and the Sea, Rui São Marcos and Jaime Camacho for the probono contribution in the management of the Funchal Marina were also awarded with the Américo Durão trophy, in appreciation for the contribution made to each of these activities.
It was in a festive atmosphere that the remainder of this celebration happened into the evening, with about 160 people among members, athletes, employees, collaborators and leaders, at a gala where Mafalda Freitas was surprised with a tribute from employees and collaborators, for all the dedication and commitment to Clube Naval do Funchal during the last 8 years of her term as President of the Board.

OLYMPIC PANEL AT HEADQUARTERS
It was late in the afternoon of December 15 that the panel of tribute to the Olympic athletes of CNF was unveiled at the Mother House of the Social Headquarters in Quinta Calaça, namely, Michel Almeida in Judo, Paulo Camacho in Swimming and Helena Rodrigues and David Fernandes in Canoeing. The ceremony was attended by athletes and officials of CNF and was another activity to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the club. Helena Rodrigues had the pleasure of unveiling the panel revealing that “(...) it is a great pride to see my effort taken into account on that panel and an honour to belong to this club since 1994. A club that trained me and saw me grow to the height of my career and always supported me”. Her colleague of the same modality, David Fernandes, said that “(...) it is always good to be recognized along with the other three athletes. It’s a pity that there are not more of us but, hopefully, in the coming years this panel can have more Olympic athletes added to it”. Paulo Camacho, former Olympian and coach of CNF’s swimming team, did not hide that it is “(...) comforting to the ego to see the work of a phase of our life be remembered. It’s always an honour, especially as it is the club that saw me through my growth and went so many places with me.”
CHOKA BAR
During the summer, the ChokaBeach Bar at the headquarters of CNF, on the 1st floor, was open to the public, offering a pleasant area by the sea and completing the hot summer days. Throughout the bathing season, there were several themed parties as well as sunsets, with DJs, with various drinks and snacks on the menu. This space filled a gap in the provision of this type of services at the end of the beach day and is an initiative to be repeated in the coming years.

2ND AND 3RD CYCLE LOUROS SCHOOL ADAPTED SAILING On 4 December, the Louros School held an awareness raising event within the Regional Week of the Person with Special Needs. Naval’s adapted sailing team was invited to contribute to the panel, “My success – My testimony”, with a presentation where the coach Pedro Correia informed the audience of the history of this work group that has been doing this activity for almost two decades in this club. This moment was not exclusive to CNF. Besides our team, young people from other schools in the region had the opportunity to make known part of their life journey.
NAVAL IS SOCIAL INCLUSION AND VOLUNTEER WORK Alike many other times, on the morning of October 26, 2017, Naval of Funchal received a group of students from the Special Education Unit of Gonçalves Zarco School at the Nautical Centre of São Lázaro. With Professor Daniela Nunes’ initiative and in partnership with CNF, these activities were undertaken in the modalities of Stand Up Paddle, Sailing, Swimming and Judo, with the aim of providing different experiences to these students. With the coordination and volunteer work of SURF and SUP technicians respectively, André and Ricardo Rodrigues, and with the support of the technicians Isabel Rocha and Olga Franco, the young students had the opportunity to try SUP. With favourable weather, this first approach allowed for a familiarization with the environment and activity in a relaxed and playful way. In the words of Prof. Daniela, “It was very gratifying to see the joy of the students, it exceeded our expectations. An experience to be repeated, without doubt”. Next week these experiences at Naval happened again in the modality of Swimming.

TOURISM WITHOUT LIMITS Continuing its social, sporting and inclusive role, but also boosting tourism, CNF was pleased to receive two British youngsters to carry out a nautical experience in adapted sailing on 22 June. Among the range of adapted activities, namely Canoeing, Diving, Swimming and Judo, for the tourists who visit us, these young people, who had never been in the water, had the opportunity to perform a sailing baptism with Naval under the guidance of Prof. Pedro Correia, a specialist in adapted sports and who has collaborated with CNF for more than 10 years. The wind was blowing rather strongly but still allowed each young person to sail in the nautical centre of São Lázaro in a safe and tranquil manner, with the help of Naval’s team of sailors of adapted sailing. Our visitors showed an enormous satisfaction for this new life experience so far away from home.
CNF ATHLETES SUPPORT ADAPTED SURFING ACTIVITY On May 20, the beach of Porto do Seixal received about twenty people to participate in an adapted surfing activity. This was an event that the Portuguese Association of Adapted Surf promoted in the region. CNF was present with Coach Pedro Cisneiros and with the surfers Jess Dundson and Mario Henriquez to give support to the participants and to carry out a training session in adapted sport. The Naval Paralympic swimmer, Emanuel Gonçalves, was also present and had the opportunity to acquire adapted surf training and collaborate in the event. This was a bonus for participants to have the opportunity to be in contact with CNF athletes to inspire them to practice this modality. Surfing, as a social integration activity, promotes healthy life habits and the overcoming of goals. To provide pleasant moments through the practice of surfing to people with disabilities, throughout the country, is the reason why CNF continues to support this activity. In addition to CNF, this activity also has the support of the APD – Portuguese Association of Disabled People – Delegation of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, ASL – Associação Sem Limites and the Madeira Promotion Bureau.

5TH REGIONAL MEETING OF ADAPTED CANOEING PROVES ITSELF ANOTHER SUCCESS On May 26, the fifth edition of the Regional Meeting of Adapted Canoeing was held at the São Lázaro Nautical Centre, inserted in the School Sports Week, a joint organization of the Regional Education Secretariat and CNF, with the support of the Regional Canoeing Association of Madeira and the participation of the Occupational Activities Centre of the ARM. About 30 users from the various occupational centres of Funchal were present at the adapted canoeing competition and they competed in the distance of 150 m, in K1 and K2. JUNIOR AREA Naval summer leisure activities (ATL) The Naval summer leisure activities (ATL) are organized by CNF’s Swimming Department, for children from 4/5 years to 13/14 years. The ATL is comprised of a varied program of activities for children’s free time occupancy during the summer holidays while their parents still work. Dance, study visits, cantonment, nautical activities like canoeing, Stand Up Paddle, surfing, swimming, walks, beach trips, cooking, among others, make up the range of activities. The prices are per week with option of half or full day with lunch included. Versatility is our motto.
Nautical leisure activities (ATLs) Sailing | Canoeing | Surf | Windsurf | Stand Up Paddle At the Centro Náutico São Lázaro, at Quinta Calaça, or on different beaches of the island, in the case of Surf, intensive courses are organized annually in one of these modalities during the Easter and summer school breaks. These courses, always duly accompanied by specialized teachers in sporting activity, enable participants to practice the federated modality while promoting contact with nature. In 2017, 10 ATLs were held throughout the year, during the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays. In total, more than 300 children and youngsters attended, many of whom started practicing the modality they liked the most. 4th EDITION | February 2018

36 STORY TIMES On December 17, the last activity of Story Time took place, managed by Cristina Freitas since 2014, on the last Sunday of each month. In total, there were 36 hours of lots of creativity, imagination and fun. Francisco, the youngest and most regular associate to attend Story Time, gave the teacher a prize of homage and gratefulness of Clube Naval for all her commitment and dedication to Story Time. The challenge has been set for our children to continue their activity, where they have the freedom to choose the story they want to tell and the artistic activity they want to develop.
JAM KIDS IN THE HEART CHALLENGE The Madeira Delegation of the Portuguese Foundation of Cardiology carried out another ‘Heart Challenge – 2017’on May 27th, within the scope of the May celebrations – Heart Month. This activity, in which CNF is partner with “Trust Our Hand!” (“Confie na Nossa Mão!”) Team of the “One Day for Life” (“Um dia pela Vida”) project of the Portuguese League Against Cancer, seeks to alert the population to the problem of cardiovascular diseases and sensitize participants to practice regular physical activity and have a healthy diet. Jam Kids, a dance group for children between 3 and 16 years, participated in this initiative at AquaGym.

SABSEG and Lusitânia Seguros at CNF On September 20, a meeting was held between SABSEG – insurance company with more than 1000 sports clubs insured throughout the country – Lusitânia Vida - Companhia de Seguros SA – and CNF. The meeting aimed at a pre-presentation of the support project for the club’s sports equipment and the commercial development of the members’ insurance portfolio. Miguel Machado, President of SABSEG, Rodrigo Gouveia, Manager of Lusitania at the ARM, and Mafalda Freitas, President of CNF, attended the presentation. Before the presentation, a brief visit was made to the club’s facilities, taking the opportunity of the representatives of both companies’ visit to the region.
PROTOCOL WITH MAXXIMUS POWER STORE The signing of the protocol between Clube Naval do Funchal and Maxximus Power Store was celebrated on June 5 at the Nazaré Sports Complex. Its purpose is to provide a discount of 10% to 15% for all CNF members, users and staff of the Sports Complex of Nazaré, upon presenting the respective card. It also grants the same discount to all the athletes of the Clube Naval do Funchal, as well as it supports the Olympic athlete David Fernandes. This partnership was part of the celebrations of the 19th anniversary of the Complex, and we invited the entire navalist family to visit the facilities of Maxximus Power Store, located at Estrada Monumental nº 434, next to the restaurant Espetus.
