Specialisms We are a selective school with specialisms in Performing and Visual Arts together with Maths and Computing. This is an exciting and rewarding combination. These specialisms drive improved outcomes for our students by providing them with access to the latest learning technology and practice, a rich programme of activities and a culture of creativity. Mathematics uses a thematic approach with the opportunity for students to use their creativity to experience how mathematics is used in various professions and students have the opportunity to use a range of modern technology. Through the Arts there are opportunities to perform in Dance, Drama and Music or express themselves through Visual Media. The Music Technology Suite and the Recording Studio provide access to the latest technology while a modern professional theatre, photography facilities and dance studio give you the opportunity to explore and develop your creative potential.

Leadership We expect our sixth form students to develop leadership skills and play an important role in the life of the school. This might be as reading partners, prefects, School Officers or as part of an extensive range of clubs and enrichment activities. These include work experience, Duke of Edinburgh, debating society, the Youth Amnesty Group or as part of our active School Council. Further opportunities will open up for you as you begin to take on whole school responsibilities and you will receive our full and generous support. We look to our sixth form students to set the standard for the school and they never cease to not only meet the standard but consistently raise it.

Facilities Townley is a large school with an impressive range of physical resources. Curriculum We provide outstanding teaching, rich opportunities for learning, and encouragement and support for each student. In return we expect an open mind, a desire to be challenged and a respect for learning, each other and our environment. We make lessons come alive using creative and imaginative techniques. So while you are prepared for university style study through seminars, conferences and lectures you also get the opportunity to learn in a variety of styles and mediums. Teaching spaces are well resourced with an extensive range of technology including a state of the art Music Technology suite, a professional recording studio, and ample access to computers. We have A level courses covering the range of A and AS level study. In addition we offer the AQA Baccalaureate. The AQA Baccalaureate is an additional qualification that you can take alongside your A-Levels. It makes you well rounded because, as well as 3 A-Levels, the AQA Baccalaureate includes qualifications such as an AS subject for breadth, an Extended Project for independent learning and any enrichment activity that you do in 6th Form. Enrichment Activity falls into three core areas: 1.Work-related learning, including work experience. 2. Community participation, such as voluntary service. 3. Personal development, like the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

Support You will enjoy a well resourced environment which combines academic rigour with modern technology. Specialised teaching ensures outstanding results and secures our students places in the universities of their choice. This is enabled by an excellent programme of UCAS guidance and Careers advice with a dedicated Careers department. As a Townley sixth form student you will join a vertical tutor group with an even balance of Year 12 and Year 13 students. This allows you to learn from your peers where the experiences of Year 13 students become invaluable for those new to the sixth form. It also means your tutor can devote more one to one time with you at key points in the year. Teachers are approachable and give freely of their time. Some teachers act as Academic Mentors to support individual students on a one to one basis and an Assistant Learning Manager is always available to support you in the sixth form. Our Student Services team act to remove the obstacles to learning that may occur or help you to overcome them. This includes a dedicated counsellor and health advice.

Community Townley Sixth form is a diverse and vibrant community. It is this diversity which gives it its strength. We support and care for each other. Students new to the school are given an extensive induction and team building activities form an essential part of this. When you join you are welcomed into a warm, friendly and happy community which will allow you to grow as an individual while encouraging you to get involved in the school and wider community. A wide range of curriculum and enrichment opportunities are available to you, blending traditional and modern interests. Townley is an inclusive community where the educational progress, personal development and well-being of every student is paramount. The wider community is also important to us and so sixth formers get to work with students from other schools, local businesses, charities and an ever expanding variety of educational groups. Our trips and visits programme includes international trips to New York, India, China and Europe as well as national visits to the Edinburgh Fringe, St Ives and London Museums and Galleries, to name but a few.
