A growth mindset We believe that both pupils and staff are lifelong learners and all pupils are treated as intelligent individuals who have exceptional potential. Children are expected to explain and find connections and think in a disciplined manner. Discipline and well-structured responses is a prerequisite to in-depth learning. Teaching is at the core of everything that we do. Without outstanding Teaching and Learning we cannot be an outstanding academy. In order to maintain high standards we place great emphasis on the importance of staff development and the ability to reshape and improve teaching. As an all through Academy and member of The Williamson Trust we utilise expertise from all phases in order to develop each other. Each of these elements ensures that every academy member remains to be a lifelong learner and that our children continue to experience great learning.

“ The quality of teaching is good and some is outstanding. Ofsted 2012

Our Curriculum Aim In our pursuit of excellence, we continually adapt the curriculum to support pupils from all backgrounds and abilities. From learning sequences within the classroom to co-curricular activities, we aim to provide each individual with a learning journey that promotes and sustains a thirst for knowledge. From Early Years Foundation Stage to Sixth Form, we offer a distinct and broad range of subjects, maximising pupils’ opportunities for academic, technical and sporting success. We do not believe in moving through the curriculum at a pre-determined pace, stifling or ‘leaving behind’ those from different groups; our aim is ensure ‘mastery’ at every level, in every topic in every subject. Those pupils who do not reach the required level are provided with additional tuition, peer support, small group intervention, and tailored home study which ensures greatness for all.

The Hundred of Hoo Academy

At Hoo all pupils are expected to make great progress both in and out of timetabled lessons. Our pupils greatly benefit from the opportunities presented to them when broadening their knowledge; allowing them to discover new skills and ensuring that they make the very best use of their time. To embed core subjects and make time for further enrichment we are open at weekends and during school holidays, offering revision and master classes as well as residential stays, day trips and summer schools. At Hoo, every second of every day is devoted to children’s learning and no time is wasted. We dedicate one hour at the end of every day to provide a multitude of enrichment activities that allow pupils to extend their skills and knowledge ensuring they make rapid gains. Every subject across the Academy provides these opportunities throughout the year. This means that there are a broad range of sessions on offer which cater for every child’s need.

“ Students behave well and feel safe in the academy.” Ofsted 2012
