EDITOR´S Letter

It truly has been a fashionable first few months of spring here in the South West; From the brilliance of Bristol Fashion Week at The Mall, to the incredible offerings at Bath in Fashion. Tres Chic is now proud to represent the fantastic fashion stories at Cabot Circus this April with a series of free fashion shows, presenting the hottest trends for spring and summer. Take yourself across to Cabot Circus and just under the glass roof on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd April the ‘Spring Summer 2012 Fashion Show’ will ‘WOW’ with outfits from high-street to high-end, and local street dance company Hype - whom have previously won awards including the World Street Dance Championships and worked with artists Neyo and Sean Paul - will be showing us just how it’s done, with choreography of the Children’s fashion show at 5pm on Saturday. Whether you want to indulge your feminine side with pretty florals, grab attention with this season’s acid brights or spice it up a bit with the latest Miami trends, there is certain to be something to get you set for spring. Talking of which, we are excited to have strutted through the doors of Harvey Nichols for our first shoot in the truly sumptuous personal shopping suite and bar, and then on to the great range at House of Fraser for a look at the events rooms at Brasserie Blanc (I know it’s a tough job!). We welcome back JP the super-star stylist who brings his intoxicating personality to our pages and every show, and we’re 100% confident in him being well placed to give even the most fashion reluctant a nudge in the right style direction. If you need anything else whilst you take in all of this, it’s all here! Enjoy!

BRING OUT YOUR STYLE PESONALITY

JP EXCLUSIVE

JP Is one of those people that you can’t help but adore, as your host to the Cabot Circus Fashion Shows we bring you a little closer to his starpersonality. Put your shades on! It’s been how long since we spoke? No postcard either, sorry trend friends, time ticks by on the front line of fashion. Forgiveness? Ta. So, much has changed since our last chats at Christmas: a) Did you get all you asked for? b) Did you make any style resolutions? and c) Did your binge drinking at the office party affect your model strutting? I hope the answers were: yes, yes and no respectively. If not, there’s always next year. Anyway, happy spring to y’alls, there is much to talk about, you may need a cuppa by your side.. I’m back in Bristol, the land of the free, styling and presenting the Spring Summer 2012 Fashion Show again. The gang and I are on a whistle stop UK trend trip, bringing good old fashioned advice to the crowds. Live it. So just in case you miss us, here’s a place where you can catch up on all you need. Cut it out, laminate it and keep it on you at all times, then you can make all your wardrobe decisions without fear (if the lamination makes it difficult to transport, skip that step, I won’t judge). 6 Treschicmagazine.com I CABOT CIRCUS SPECIAL ISSUE 2012

US. Of Trend. Thanks to our American cousins we have two really big areas to cover here: a) Miami Fashion Vice - Think bold colours, bold patterns and a bold attitude to wear them both together. A style that screams summer heat, work the pavement and love the attention. b) 1.9.5.0 - Turn back the fashion clocks to the heyday of Americana, work the cuts (the high waist, wiggle skirts, halter neck, knotted shirts, etc etc), the mid riffs, the catseye sunglasses and the wholesome smile behind a killer blowdry. Tell your inner Sandra Dee to kindly move aside.

White Out

If all the colours and patterns make you feel like you’ve got a migraine coming on, you’re in luck, the classy alternative is back with a flash. It has been brewing for a little while, but it’s now fully on the scene and available for use. Having the colour bleached out makes you look at the garment for the cut and shape, so choose wisely and experiment with the futuristic but clean inspiration.

This trend is all about the fabrics and it stretches from relaxed daywear to evening jaw droppers. Think depth; embroidery, lace, chiffon layers etc for a more relaxed feel and high flapper glamour for evening, dropped waist dresses and skirts with embellishments to Charleston for, beads, sequins and more. Why not top it off with a turban or a crystal tasselled skull cap, you’re only human.

Colour Bind

Right, take a breath and a sip of tea, we’ve done the ladies. Now for menswear, cuppa down and GO...

Pattern Cutter

Again, don’t shrink into the background gents, now is the time for guts. The only advice is, work the patterns, don’t let them work you. Aztec is big right now, as it has been for ladies (noticing another pattern here...?), likewise working the clash. So shop around and as above, frame it well with deliberately chosen borders and you’ll be the one to watch down your street.

S-ankles. Socked ankles. Make them a part of/clash against your outfit, the ankle is screaming out to be dressed, make its dreams comes true for the season. Personality. Without what you bring to the outfit, you’re just a walking look book, so add tricks to it, accessorise when appropriate and give the crowds what they deserve. YOU. 8 hours at your desk is wasted outfit time as far as i’m concerned, so don’t get stuck in the trap of: “Oh it’s only workwear”, the clue’s in the title, work that wear, you never know WHO might step into your workplace.

done.

Right men, fear colour no longer. End of advice. Admiring fashion glances aren’t just for the ladies, get used to them and show off your trend know how. We’re used to seeing the brights from the gals but now it’s our turn, it has jumped into menswear a treat, so block it up and herald the summer. If there’s any fear still knocking around, split up the colour and throw in some framing with denims or nude chinos. Whilst you’re on the colour bus, why not experiment with pastels, it’s easy once you’ve dipped your toe in.

Here endeth today’s lesson. Have you broken a sweat? I have. I’ve had to stop for three energy drinks. All that remains to say is make shopping your friend, remember your budget and NEVER FORGET THE POWER OF AN OUTFIT, you really can dress your way up the life ladder. Fashion high fives until the next time. @effortmade to take this to the tweets.

FLEUR-TY PRINTS Spring is when nature comes alive, and this is reflected this season. Summer is looking hot with colour prints - from vintage-inspired florals, to luscious paradise islands and tropical flowers. Whether you go for floaty, structured or somewhere in between, achieve this look by embracing the traditional and injecting it with the right amount of attitude. There is only one rule with this trend - the bigger and bolder the print the better!

If you want to make a bold statement, vibrant, acid bright colours are huge this year. This is a trend that you can’t tone down so it’s all about mixing colours together - not for shrinking violets. Put together pinks, blues, yellows and greens for a new take on last year’s colour blocking trend. If clashing isn’t your thing but you still like this look, try it with denim, which will give you a flavour of the trend.

S/S HAIR TRENDS

The use of ballet buns, windswept ponytails, wraparound french plaits and bouffant beehives bring minimalism and high impact updo’s to the spring/summer 2012 catwalk. By Sean Hanna hair salon, Quakers Friars Bristol

Yves Saint Laurent

Missoni

“Working in the salon it is important to take ones face shape into consideration when creating the perfect look, but my personal favourite of spring/summer is the windswept ponytail inspired by Missoni at the Milan Fashion Show. This is versatile whilst still retaining an earthy texture to the look. We have re-shaped this look for the recent photo shoot in the heart of Quakers Friars, Cabot Circus held by Tres Chic. We also recently styled the hair at the FUZE fashion show here in Bristol where we opted for ballet buns along side a Festival Wave” Salon Owner - Adam Vincent. “Spring/ Summer 2012 utilises cool, soft pastel tones and when technically mastered and tailored to suit your complexion. The result should be clean; even with subtle varying tones” Kurtis Beaumont (L’Oreal Colour Specialist). “Ladies with shorter hair should take inspiration from some form of undercut, gone are the days when this was an aggressive look. It’s now looser, can have graduated layers, and by razoring the edges, the look becomes even softer. Men will see texture and volume take over and the use powder grip and clays used to achieve the look whilst shorter looks will remain sharp with clean lines” Amie Scudamore (Senior Stylist). PERFUMES AVAILABLE AT HOUSE OF FRASER, BRISTOL

As summer approaches, the time has arrived to drop the heavy knits and wool coats. The experts at Sanctuary Spa in Quakers Friars give us their top tips to prepare our bodies to look amazing in floaty dresses and beautiful bikinis. 1. The first step to getting body beautiful this summer is to scrub away the old, dreary skin that has been hiding under your winter woollies. Dry body brushing is a great way to achieve this – this should be done everyday, spending two minutes on each section of the body to enhance circulation and aid reduction of cellulite and water retention. For a longer term fix why not try Endermologie – a non-invasive and natural solution for stubborn cellulite and body contouring, which helps to break down fatty deposits and eliminate the ‘orange peel’ effect. 2. After drinking water, moisturising is probably one of THE most important things you can do for your body as it helps to restore the natural moisture in your skin that has been lost. It is important to moisturise straight after your bath/shower while still damp as your pores remain open and soak up key ingredients for deep moisturisation. 3. Last but not least – FAKE IT! There is no need to fry yourself in the sun and risk dry skin and premature aging. If you’re worried about pasty legs making an appearance in public invest in a St Tropez Spray Tan courtesy of our team of experts, which will give you a warm summer glow instantly. If you feel like you need a bit of a head start on getting bikini ready why not trial our ‘3 Step Summer Prep Bundle’ which includes a Sanctuary PrescripSKIN PERFECTING BB tion Facial, Sanctuary Prescription Body Polish and a St Tropez Spray Tan for CREAM SPF 15 £14.99 only £65 (saving £25) until 31st May.
