Message from the Parks & Recreation Director

I am ecstatic to be coming to Reno during such an exciting time in its history. With new facilities coming on line over the next year and the update of our “Parks, Recreation, and Open Space” plan, Reno is primed for a Parks and Recreation Renaissance. I am grateful for the work and care that my predecessor Jamie Schroeder did to lay the groundwork for me to come to Reno and be a part of a wonderful team of people who care for their community. There are challenges that our department is working hard to overcome and we’re excited about what’s next for Reno.

Over the last year, our staff, City Council, and the Recreation and Parks Commission have worked hard to create and refine the update to our Parks, Recreation, and Open Space plan. This plan has worked to identify what the future of Reno’s parks and recreation landscape will look like. Beyond saying where we are and where we need to go, the plan will provide the strategy and an implementation plan that we will be bringing forward to the community to help us make decisions about Reno’s priorities. In the short term, we will be working to freshen up our park spaces with new amenities and refurbished facilities. As you read this, the Reno Tennis Center and portions of the Truckee River path are being resurfaced and repaired. In October, a new, fully accessible playground in Dorothy McAlinden Park will open and provide a fresh opportunity for all. From playgrounds to parking and lighting to landscaping, many of our parks will be getting some upgrades over the next several months.

Thank you for welcoming my family and I to the Biggest Little City and its wonderful feeling of community.
