#ENCINITASLIFE

From the Director’s Desk… Hello Encinitas,

I hope that everyone is enjoying all that our beautiful city has to offer. I want to provide an update on the Standard Pacific Park Site Project. The preferred design concept was approved by the City Council on March 21. We are currently working on 30% design plans and a revised budget for the project. For more information on the park please visit www.EncinitasCA.gov/ StandardPacificParkSite. New playground equipment for Mildred MacPherson and Encinitas Viewpoints parks should be installed by early June 2018. Some of the features include shade, new surfacing, fencing and seating. We have a new concessionaire at Moonlight Beach. Aqua Cafe is open for business. They provide healthy options such as sandwiches, snacks, fruit elixirs and premium shaved desserts. They will be open year round. Please stop by and try some of their delicious food. For more information you can go to www.aquapurenutrition.com or call (760) 575-2558. Have a safe and happy summer!

MAGGIE HOULIHAN MEMORIAL

DOG PARK IMPROVEMENTS

Since its opening in 2015, the Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park has become a daily part of Encinitas life for many. The City's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is pleased to be able to add new features and improvements to the park for many to enjoy. The dog park will be closed from May 1st to May 31st for turf renovations and for dog park improvements, including four shade umbrellas over seating areas and dog agility equipment (see images below). Lori Michaels from community partner PADZ (People and Dog Zones) is proud of the amazing dog park that Encinitas has to enjoy. "As a founding member of PADZ, I’m so proud of our City for supporting the great need for off-leash areas. The wonderful Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park isn't just for “dogs”. Neighbors come to enjoy the vibrancy of animal interaction, exchange pet tips, and general camaraderie. I’ve heard people say it’s a model for other communities nationwide to follow. Encinitas is continuing to make improvements at the suggestion of the park attendees. Through the financial support of dog lovers, PADZ proudly presented the City with $6,000 toward dog park improvements including the shade umbrellas, which will be dedicated to our past President Lu Meyer." The dog park agility equipment is funded through a grant received by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department from the PetSafe® Bark for Your Park™ grant program. Off-leash dogs are always welcome within the Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park at Encinitas Community Park, located at 425 Santa Fe Drive, Encinitas. The approximately 2-acre dog park features areas for small dogs, timid or first time dogs, and a large lawn open to all. Please keep dogs on-leash when walking to and from the Dog Park area within Encinitas Community Park and please obey all posted Dog Park rules. The Dog Park is open from 8 am to sunset daily, except for regular cleaning and maintenance on Thursdays from 1-3 pm. Expect temporary posted closures during rainy or wet conditions, or for repairs.
