Youth Tech Inc. is an interactive computer camp that focuses on providing enrichment opportunities to students in the world of computers. Animation In this class students will learn the basics of animation and digital design. Students who enjoy going to various sites to see fun interactive animations will love this course. This class will utilizes Adobe’s award winning animation software in Adobe Flash. Students will create fun interactive animations that they can share with the world. 10 – 17 yrs. June 15 – 18

The Gaming Academy The gaming academy is an all day course for students who love games. During this course students will be immersed into the world of 2D and 3D game design. MAD SCIENCE CAMP

Mad Science camps offer a daily combination of in-class discovery and exploration, outdoor games, physical activities and hands-on applications of the scientific principles presented. Your child will be able touch, see, hear, smell and taste what science is really all about.

We use simple, real world science techniques that allow even the youngest of campers to enjoy our learning environment. Campers create, build and assemble a variety of take-home projects

Chemicals, Cells & Crime Get ready for a day in the Mad Science Laboratory! Children will turn a lemon into a battery and discover electrochemical reactions as they electroplate a penny and a nickel. They will learn how new compounds are created from chemical reactions, take a fantastic trip into “cell city” and the human body and learn about cells and the different parts and functions of a cell. They will investigate the different organ systems and make a gutsy apron and a model lung to take home. Lastly, they will team up with fellow campers to solve the “Great Cookie Caper” crime with the detective skills they learn. They will walk the grid, collect evidence and test their forensic skills to solve the crime and make their own cookie snack. There is so much to explore during the day! 7 – 12 yrs. Rocking Rockets and Aerodynamics This camp takes the children through the principles of flight and aerodynamics. They build airplanes, a hovercraft and balloon copters. They will discover what makes things fly and how different types of flying devices become air borne. Nature, Bugs and Blossoms Young explorers discover the natural world of bugs, plants and humans! They learn the life cycle of a simple seed to a full grown plant. They investigate how the sun, wind and rain affect life—including not just plants but even creepy crawlies and bugs. They become weather artists using rain and wind as their tools! They will explore the life of a caterpillar and discover how it turns into a beautiful butterfly. They make their own bug bracelet and will discover the difference between fruits and vegetables from their own placemats. Lego Mindstorm Robotics Children explore the exciting world of robotics! They learn the mechanical aspects of robots including gears, torque, hydraulics and pneumatics. 4 | 2015 Summer Classes & Events

They discover electrical circuitry as it powers robots at work and explore a robot’s principal components by identifying, comparing and testing toy robots. Campers will form small robotics teams to build programmable robots using the Lego NXT Mindstorms systems. Children work with ultrasonic, touch, color and motion sensors which collect information around them. The program interprets this information and makes the robot respond to its environment. Children make the robots move in a dancing fashion, have them identify colors, follow a line and avoid objects. These future roboticists will learn teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking skills and develop the value of self-motivation and resourcefulness. Secret Agent Lab Suspects, schematics, and sleuths… oh my! Connect the dots using science to help solve a crime in this hands-on investigation of the science of sleuthing. Children use the ‘scene solver’ to reconstruct the scene of a crime. Using the ‘whodunit-kit’, they can practice their skills of recall and observation—matching character descriptions to reconstruct the face of the culprit! Look out 007—the Mad Science spy academy is in session! From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, children have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible messages! Campers will use the ‘secret code breaker’ to communicate in code like real

Jr. Explorers’ Club Children explore different topics during this fun five-day camp. They take a trip through the solar system where each student becomes a Mad Science Astronaut in training. In an ‘explosive’ session campers get introduced to simple chemistry fun. We simulate a volcanic eruption, observe protein molecules in action as they turn into explosive colors and more. Get fascinated with light and learn how shadows and rainbow colors are made using a rainbow a catcher. Campers will mix colors of light and explore the world of color. Take an imaginary trip to the beach and see how sand is made. Meet creatures that live in the ocean. Examine different shells, a starfish and a sponge; and see how different sea creatures live. Make a tiny ocean to carry home! This is a week of fun exploration and discovery! 4 – 6 yrs. July 13 – 17

Kinder Play Camp Kinder Play is the perfect summer camp for younger kids who are ready to learn about creating theatre! In this MondayThursday program kids create a character for themselves then work together to create an original short play which will be performed for family and friends on Thursday. Create-a-Play Camp Create-A-Play is the perfect camp for kids who want to spend a week in the summer creating an original play. In this camp, kids work together to create two completely original plays which are performed for family and friends on Friday afternoon. No prior experience necessary! Play Festival Camp Play Festival is the perfect summer program for middle school kids interested in theatre! In this camp, students work together within small groups to create a festival or a variety of short plays which will be performed at the end of the last day of camp. No prior experience necessary! KINDERMUSIK WITH ALYSSA

Kindermusik gives your child the opportunity to enjoy music through rhythm, instruments, singing and dancing. It helps develop body awareness, coordination, and spatial relationships through synchronized and creative movement and simple dances. Language skills are developed and honed through exposure to literature (an important component of the curriculum). Children also explore vocal sounds and singing, which foster the development of your child’s first and most important instrument—the voice!


Disney Mini Musical It’s a Whole New World! of Music and Fun! The cast will help choose some of their favorite Disney songs and assemble a 20 minute musical complete with speaking parts, costumes, instruments and props. Students will strengthen their singing voices through vocal play and exercises as well as learn musical and theatrical terminology. Rehearsals will be full of fun and games, with creative play, instrument play, and snacks included. The performance will be held at 11:10am on Friday! All Keyed Up We’re All Keyed Up! There is magic to be found in those 88 keys! Immerse yourself in the magic of keyboards of all kinds. Listen to and learn about pianos, organs, synthesizers, and harpsichords. You’ll explore staccato and legato sounds, get to know the sounds of a few famous composers and even experiment with composition. This is the perfect way for a young child to build keyboarding skills needed for formal piano lessons in a fun class-style environment filled with storytelling, games, vocal exploration, musical instruments, snacks and more! Tippi Toes Princess Camp Once upon a time in a not so far away land, Tippi Toes planned a beautiful Princess Dance Camp. Young campers will come from near and far dressed in princess or ballerina attire and dance, share stories, attend the princess beauty parlor, work on crafts and play games! At the end of their time, they will invite their King and Queen (mom & dad) to attend a dance performance and award ceremony. We would love for your child to dance into our enchanted fairytale! EXTREME ANIMALS CAMPS

Extreme Animals of Australia and Asia Let’s take a walkabout down under! Australia is a harsh environment and the animals there have amazing ways to deal with it. From hopping kangaroos and sun-loving dragons in Australia to otters and snakes in Asia, our camp is a WILD place to be! Learn about these two different continents while interacting with animals from both and take part in conservation efforts for the endangered Tasmanian Devil. Music, cultural education, arts and crafts and a little bit of fun exercise are just the beginning to the fun things going on in this camp.

Extreme animals is a “zoo to you” zoo that rescues and cares for exotic animals. The owner has been around wild/exotic animals most of her life and believes that by allowing others to interact with animals they may never encounter in the wild, they gain a respect and desire to protect animals they may not understand. This is essential in the preservation of the entire planet’s wildlife. In these camps you will get up close and personal with wild and exotic animals while learning about them and their habitats. Extreme Animals of Africa and South America Take a walk on the WILD side! Join us on a safari as we interact with the animals and learn about the cultures of these amazing places. Along with having lots of fun, we will be learning and participating in conservation efforts for endangered species like lemurs. You will have a chance to observe a training session with Serabi our beautiful African serval and engage in water play with our baby crocodiles. Students will have the rare opportunity to learn about these and many other animals as they interact in a safe and entertaining environment. Building Minds Building Minds helps kids ages 5-12 learn science and engineering (STEM) concepts using Lego® products and other fun, hands-on learning tools. Intro to Guitar Camp This camp is for absolute beginners and those who have taken only a few lessons. Learn how to read a chord chart and a scale chart, finger pick and how to practice effectively. Focus on Photography – Visual Arts Camp Visual Art programs teach skills of creative, positive thoughts and actions while learning the valuable trade skill of photography. These week long camps unplug children and connects them to creative thought as we focus on different aspects of photography such as introduction to the camera, basic lighting and composition, all while impacting their young minds with simple artistic ways to transform their photographs into works of art. Students will also learn about Oklahoma history, community and learn about different careers in the field. If your child does not have a camera or cannot borrow one for the week, a camera will be provided for them to use. Child must bring a sack lunch each day. Sew it Forward Make an activity mat for someone with Alzheimer’s. These easy-to-sew activity mats help soothe the agitated fidgeting of people with dementia, autism or Alzheimer’s. The mats help focus their attention, stimulate senses, exercise hand muscles and entertain users. Activity Mats are the size of a placemat and include pockets, zippers, buttons, strings of beads, bells, etc. They may also include a textured pocket with a soft toy or vinyl pocket for photos. HOW TO RENT A PAVILION/ROOM The City of Edmond Parks and Recreation Department has pavilions and rooms available for rent for your private function. For information on availability, pricing and booking, call the Parks and Recreation office at (405) 359-4630 or visit us M-F 8am-5pm at the MAC building in Mitch Park.

Planning a special event? Any event that offers a public invitation that includes use of city services must be approved by our Special Events Committee. City services include, but are not limited to: street closures, trash receptacles, police/fire services. Anyone interested in having a special event must contact Sarah London by calling (405) 359-4580 for information and an application.

REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY 1.) If a class has been canceled by the instructor or Parks and Recreation Department at any time, we will work to reschedule the class. If you cannot make the rescheduled class, you have the option for a full refund or you may have a credit for the amount of your class placed on your account. Credits expire one year from the date of the original class. 2.) If a registered customer withdraws more than 7 days prior to the date of the class, the customer may receive a full refund or have credit placed on their account. Credits expire one year from the date of the original class. 3.) If a registered customer withdraws for a class less than 7 days prior to the date of the class, the customer will forfeit their fee. This is due to minimum class participant requirements being met 7 days prior to a class so supplies can be

purchased and the contracted instructor can plan. Credits and possible refunds will be considered with extenuating circumstances. The Refund & Cancelation policy applies only to our fee-based Recreation Programs and not to: KickingBird Tennis Center; KickingBird Golf Club; Edmond Farmers Market; Pelican Bay Aquatic Center; Arcadia Lake; pavilion or room rentals within the Parks and Recreation Department.

KickingBird Golf Club

KickingBird Golf Club is the

City of Edmond’s only municipal golf course. Built in 1971, KickingBird is Edmond’s oldest golf course and is still well known for its traditional 18–hole championship layout. KickingBird Golf Club has hosted many professional and amateur championships. KickingBird hosted the Oklahoma Open from 1979–1985 and many of its storied champions include Danny Edwards, Dr. Gil Morgan, Doug Tewell, and Bob Tway. Festival Market Place

The Festival Market Place is located on 2nd street one block west of Broadway in downtown Edmond. The Festival Market Place is home to the Edmond Farmer’s Market that runs from Mid–April through the end of October. For more information call 359–4630.

Amenities and Rates Festival Market Place is an outdoor special event venue and has been the home of the Edmond Farmer’s Market since 2004. The Festival Market Place is a great location for groups or individuals to hold fundraising events, family reunions, weddings and receptions, concerts, craft shows and more. It is a 63’ X 142’ open–air pavilion with water, electricity, ceiling fans, plaza area and public restrooms. It is available for rent except during the Farmer’s Market, some holidays** or other scheduled events. Below are the rental rates:
