SYNOPSIS

This is the story of a Wolf, a Grandma, and a girl. A girl who likes to be known as Red.

Red loves to read books about superheroes, adventures and, most of all, Christmas! But in the town where she lives, Christmas has been banned.

Tired of following the rules, Red embarks on a mission to bring back Christmas, defeat the big bad Wolf and save Grandma from the deep dark forest. But are things all as they seem?

CAST

CINDY AWOR – RED

Cindy trained at Edinburgh Napier University and is one of this year's Citizens Theatre Graduate Actors. Prior to this, she trained at Glasgow Clyde College (Langside) and was part of the Scottish Drama Training Network Graduate Scheme. Recent credits include: The Comedy of Errors (Citizens Theatre); Dog Squad (CBeebies); VS09 (New Celts Productions); Candy (Blazing Griffin).

MAUREEN CARR – GRANDMA

Maureen appeared in the 1986 Citizens Theatre production of Red Riding Hood where she played Anna (Red). She is delighted to return 36 years later to play Grandma! She has been a professional actor since 1979 and has performed all over the UK and beyond. Her most recent theatre credits include the touring production of Rose by Lorna Martin (Witsherface Theatre) which she also directed. Maureen also directed Rose for A Play, A Pie and A Pint which then toured to Theatre Gerolamo (Milan); Holding/Holding On by Nicola McCartney NTS Rehearsed reading (Scottish Parliament); Fibres by Frances Poet (Citizens Theatre tour and film); A Funny Place For a Window by Stuart Hepburn (A Play, A Pie and A Pint & The Traverse Theatre); The Dodo Experiment (WAC Ensemble, Citizens Theatre). Director/collaborator on My Historic Neighbourhood a short film celebrating 100 Years of The Barras (Citizens Theatre and Glasgow Doors Open Days). TV credits include: Angie in First Footing, Made in Scotland (BBC Scotland); Edith in Still Game (Effingee/BBC/BBC Studios); Moira in Molly and Mack (CBBC); Theresa in River City (BBC Scotland/BBC Studios). Maureen is also Artistic Director of Witsherface Theatre Company.

MICHAEL GUEST – KEVIN

Michael trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Theatre credits include: The Comedy of Errors, A Christmas Carol (Citizens Theatre); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Scottish Opera); Joke (A Play, A Pie & A Pint), Bad Roads, The Speculator, Hamlet, Uncle Vanya, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). Film/TV credits include: Raven’s Hollow (Canoe Film/SHUDDER); Balance (Half-Bank Productions). Radio credits include: The 5000 (BBC Radio 4).

TROTTERS

Francesca graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) in July. She is one of this year’s Citizens Theatre Graduate Actors. Prior to RCS, Francesca trained at the Inspire Academy Workshop in Nottingham. Theatre credits include: Alföld (Citizens Theatre/A Play, A Pie and A Pint); The Comedy of Errors (Citizens Theatre); Gloria, Thebans, Much Ado About Nothing, August: Osage County and Vassa (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland); Death and Botany (55 Kings); The Astronaut Wives Club (NYT). EWAN MILLER – HERBERT/WOLF

Ewan is an actor from the Scottish Highlands. He graduated from Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is a three-time recipient of the Dewar Arts Award and winner of the Duncan Macrae Competition Prize 2020. Theatre credits include: Much Ado About Nothing (National Theatre); The Comedy of Errors and A Christmas Carol (Citizens Theatre); Joke, Milkshake (Citizens Theatre/A Play, A Pie and A Pint/Traverse Theatre); The Speculator, Hamlet, Uncle Vanya, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). Screen credits include: CRIME (ITV/Britbox); One Shot (Incidental Pictures); Close (Gentle Giant Productions); Skin (Brutal Studios).

SAMUEL PASHBY – ACTOR MUSICIAN

Samuel is an Actor and Musician. He holds an MA from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a BA (Hons) in Drama from the University of Winchester. Samuel performs and produces music as 'Mistral'. Recent theatre credits include: James IV: Queen of the Fight (Raw Material/ National Theatre of Scotland); The Comedy of Errors, A Christmas Carol and Cinderella (Citizens Theatre); Cyrano de Bergerac (Citizens Theatre/ National Theatre of Scotland/Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh); Celestial Body (A Play, A Pie and A Pint); A Christmas Carol (Pitlochry Festival Theatre); Sleeping Beauty (Byre Theatre, St Andrew’s); Macbeth (Shakespeare Festival, Stafford); Hamlet (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland/Bard in the Botanics); Brother, How to Stage a Drowning (On The Verge); Coriolanus (Bard in the Botanics); As You Like It (Shakespeare’s Globe Education).

DOMINIC HILL – DIRECTOR

Dominic joined the Citizens Theatre as Artistic Director in 2011. His productions for the Citizens have included The Comedy of Errors, Krapp’s Last Tape/Go On, Cyrano de Bergerac, A Christmas Carol, Oresteia: This Restless House (winner of Best Director, 2016 CATS Awards), Hamlet, Crime and Punishment (winner of Best Director and Best Production, 2014 CATS Awards), King Lear and Betrayal (winner of Best Director, 2012 CATS Awards). Before joining the Citizens, he was Artistic Director of the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh and Joint Artistic Director of Dundee Rep. Other credits include: Falstaff and Macbeth (Scottish Opera), The City Madam (Royal Shakespeare Company) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and Scottish Opera).

LEWIS HETHERINGTON – WRITER

Lewis is a playwright and performance maker whose work is rooted in collaboration and story. He is an Associate of The PappyShow and has worked on shows including BOYS, What Do You See? and Thanks For Nothing (for Wonderfools as part of Positive Stories for Negative Times). He is one of the founders of fieldwork performance and with them curated QWERK: a festival of international Queer writing, and more recently led Dear Green Place, a programme of performance, workshops and events which took place across North East Glasgow exploring hope, fear, and action, in response to the Climate Crisis. He regularly collaborates with Designer Ailie Cohen and their work together includes Cloud Man, Secret Life of Suitcases (co-produced with Unicorn Theatre) and Rocket Post! (co-produced with the National Theatre of Scotland). Other projects include leading The Coming Back Out Ball, a two-year co production between National Theatre of Scotland and All The Queens Men, celebrating the lives of LGBTQIA Elders. MICHAEL JOHN MCCARTHY – COMPOSER & MUSICAL SUPERVISOR

Michael John McCarthy is a musician, sound designer and composer for stage and screen. His band Album Club released their debut LP on Last Night From Glasgow in May 2022. It reached number six in the UK Vinyl Albums chart, and number two in the Scottish Albums chart, spending six weeks in the Top 100. He has worked on over 80 theatrical productions, including ten Scotsman Edinburgh Fringe First award winners, most recently The Last Return by Druid Theatre Company. He is also the musical supervisor and co-sound designer on Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of), winner of the 2022 Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play. Previous Citizens Theatre credits include: Nora: A Doll’s House, Whatever Happened to the Jaggy Nettles?, The Gorbals Vampire, Trainspotting, Rapunzel, Into That Darkness, Fever Dream: Southside and Sports Day.

CHRIS STUART WILSON – CHOREOGRAPHER

/ MOVEMENT DIRECTOR

Chris has created a portfolio career within the arts, curating a path using multiple disciplines. As a choreographer he has worked for many theatre companies and institutions including National Theatre of Scotland and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He was the resident choreographer at Pitlochry Festival Theatre from 2010-2018 working on over 30 productions such as the boxoffice smash Chicago, Singin’ in the Rain and the award-winning White Christmas. In addition to choreography and performing, his entrepreneurial portfolio includes directing, teaching, events curating and hosting. He has extensive experience facilitating artistic practice for vulnerable people and in 2017/2018, the BBC produced a feature of his work exploring the therapeutic effects of dance for people living with dementia, that gained massive global media attention. Chris also performs as his international award-nominated alterego, Jesus L’Oreal, portraying Jesus as a fitness and lifestyle guru of the ‘influencer’ age.
