brave new name brand new era the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI) is now Glyndw ˆ r University. The change of name and status heralds an exciting new era for Wrexham, Wales, the borderlands and the academic world, as Glyndwˆr becomes the youngest university in Wales – a new educational institution that champions the spirit of enterprise and an outwardfacing philosophy.
Glyndwˆ r the man The new university is named after Welsh legend, Owain Glyndwˆr. Born in the 14th century, he was an enterprising and inspirational leader who had strong local ties to North East Wales. Amongst his many achievements, Glyndwˆr, a learned scholar was the first person to advocate the creation of Universities in both North and South Wales. Glyndwˆ r the university Glyndwˆr University is a vibrant, friendly place where each student’s learning and future is given personal attention.
