hello grizzlies Get ready for the thrill of your life, introducing District Convention 2016’s theme, Cirque du Service: The 40th KIWIN’S Spectacular! For the first time in KIWIN’S history, our convention will be held at Los Angeles Airport Marriott, one of the largest venues yet, from April 15th to the 17th. Lucky for us, we will be celebrating not only our beautiful service, but also our organization’s 40th birthday! WOAH 4 DECADES?! There is so much in store for the members so be sure not to miss out! With that being said, it is never too early to start promoting to your members and it will make a huge difference in your club’s attendance! In the next few pages, I have compiled tips and tricks to implement throughout the year so that, together, we can build a great district and obtain our goals! Best of Luck, Charissa Nguyen District Convention Chair 2015-2016

Ask your Kiwanis club for help in subsidizing costs Your Kiwanis clubs are here to help! If you ask early enough in the year, the Kiwanians will be able to set aside money in their budget to help lower costs. Introduce DCON to prospective members at club rush ex. “What is KIWIN’S?” “KIWIN’S is a club dedicated to serving the community and making friends while doing so! Near the end of each year, hundreds of members across California, Nevada, and Hawaii gather at our convention to celebrate a wonderful year, learn new things, cheer like crazy, and meet new people! It’s super duper fun.” Explain DCON more into depth at interest meeting show theme release video, old talent show footage, past recap videos, etc. (more in resources) Promote dues emphasize that you MUST be a dues-paid member to attend DCON

1

Have members commit to DCON from the beginning of the year by having monthly payments that splits the large cost into manageable portions. (Camarillo High School)

2

Create a DCON Committee to focus on promoting and prepping your club for convention. If your club is too small to have a committee, appoint a general member or board member as a DCON Chair!

3

Devise a tier system to encourage members to volunteer as well as go to DCON! Make 6 tiers based on average number of hours (around 20 hours). When each tier is reached, $10 is subtracted from the DCON cost. Board members and committee members get a bonus of hours for their behind the scenes work. (Fountain Valley High School)

4

Establish a service–hours and fundraiser participation quota for eligibility to go to DCON. This creates more active members and the money raised will lower prices for DCON. (Camarillo High School)
