Welcome to our 18th Annual Bull and Female Sale. The excitement is building as we head into another bull sale season. It truly is our favourite time of year. We look forward to the connection made with our customers and meeting new people at our farm, our sale and on the road.

The Crossroad kids continue to dive deep into their passion of life here on the farm. Helping whenever and wherever, while still getting out and experiencing other operations and some added fun. Shelby decided to hit the junior show road last year. Jaici also did one show and Olivia was able to join Shelby at a couple shows. This created renewed love for showing and some new friendships.

They are all investing and expanding their own herds. They also attended Edam Fall Fair for a second consecutive year and came out with Reserve Champion Pen of European Bulls. To end off the year, a strong offering of females was put together for the Border City sale, which was a huge success.

Olivia continues her 3rd year of post secondary at OPSU in Oklahoma on scholarship in softball and livestock judging doing her Animal Science degree. Shelby began her first year of obtaining her agronomy degree at the U of S. Jaici is in grade 11 and Cooper is in grade 9 and begging to quit school so he can farm everyday fulltime. Times are changing rapidly and thankfully these kids help us keep up.

Once again we have to thank our employees. We are very grateful for their long hours and pride in the jobs they do. Kirk and Claude are an integral part of the daily success of our operation. We know how lucky we are to have both of you work side by side with us.

And to Ian Wasden for doing night calving allowing us to get those daily jobs done well and keep our sanity.

The anticipation for this year’s sale has been building ever since this set of bulls hit the ground. From big-time flush siblings to an abundance of new sire groups. Our females in production are at the peak of the Simmental breeds standard. There is no absence of power, structural correctness, and dependable fertility. The bulls relay these notable attributes loudly. As you make your way through all three pens, you’re met with consistent quality through and through. A set of easy fleshing, genetically proven, fluid moving bulls that are going to excel at their given task. With a large sire group on offer, there is a wide array of options for every program out there. It is our goal as a family to keep our program values strong, this set of bulls is an exemplary model of that.

We invite you to come view the bulls and the great females backing them any time before the sale. Take your time in the pens looking over our offering. We will be available to answer any questions you may have and the coffee will be on. Videos will be available in early February.

Dr. Blair Simonson continues to do exceptional reproductive work from semen testing to embryo work for us. We would also like to welcome our new local vet, Dr. Justin Hodgson, Farm Docs in Spiritwood that looks after our overall herd health. It is very reassuring to have both of these dependable Veterinarians on our team.

Crossroad bulls are developed on a TMR ration consisting of cereal silage, chopped hay, super oats and a custom formulated bull supplement. This ration will optimize longevity and ensure proper development from mass and structure to testicle development. All bulls will be vet checked, scrotal measured and semen tested. Bulls were treated with Selon E,Vit.AD, Tolyrazuril, Nasalgen as baby calves.

We have twelve red and three black Sysco sons for you to choose from this year. They all offer natural thickness and tremendous eye appeal. Both Lots 1 & 2 are transplant brothers from our Gracie donor cow and were members of the Reserve champion pen 205 ADJ at the very competitive Edam Fall Fair all breeds show this past fall. Sanchez is an excellent example of what Sysco is capable of 811 siring. Here is one of our big boys, and another member of the trio that went to Edam this past fall. He is a tremendous Sysco son with explosive growth and has been a standout since birth. This fella weaned off at 920 pounds on August 31, showing tremendous promise all summer and even more impressive now with every trip through the pen. Nacho has been a standout since birth. The kids decided last minute to take a cow/calf pair to the Turtleford summer show and snagged this pair from the pasture the day before and they won first place! Nacho is solid in 205 ADJ his colour, his thickness, structure and disposition. He moves out well and has that real herd bull presence to him.

825 His American Red dam is pegged to enter our flush program in the upcoming years. She comes from a super strong cow family with her dam and grandam raising many top end bulls for our customers over the years. Her first calf sold at last year’s sale 365 ADJ in the heifer division to Regan Schlacter from Humbolt for $10,000. We are hoping her next calf is a heifer, it won’t be leaving 1519 the farm. Night Hawk is a calving ease sire that was bred to 139L’s powerhouse dam we purchased at last year’s Camrose Country Classic sale from Tri-K Cattle at Beaverlodge, Ab. We are very pleased to have some of these Flash sons for you. We have trusted him to breed our heifers for the past four years, they calve very easy and have some “get up and go” to start sucking. Flashman was born at 66 pounds with a 17.1 calving 205 ADJ ease, so some definite numbers we all like to see when looking for a bull for heifers. When each kid turns 13 they get their 778 pick of the purebred heifer pen so they can start their own herd. The dam of Flashman was the obvious choice for Cooper.

As you can tell in this November picture his guy has a lot going for him. He certainly has adequate muscling and good testicle size at this stage of his development. This is the only Black Next Century son we have this year and we really like him. Black Sedan is a transplant brother to lots 1 & 2, all with the same pedigree just a different colour and fed by different mothers.

We like this guy a lot. He is a super deep bodied, solid black bull. We raised his sire and have four of his sons for you this year. We also have a couple daughters that will calve in early January and some fancy ones in the replacement pen 205 ADJ too. He is pictured here in November and you can see the herd bull look he carries, long spined, full of muscle and an 806 above average set of EPD’s. We will start the full blood section with four Crossroad Lieutenant sons that are all equally impressive. We sold Lieutenant in our 2022 bull sale to Siroski Simmentals and collected semen for in-herd use knowing we needed to inject these genetics back into 205 ADJ our herd. Here is Latitude, he has been strutting his stuff since he was little, his qualities were obvious. This is a very complete full fleck bull that we have all admired since birth. We purchased his fancy dam for $29,500 and we are sure pleased with what she brought along with her, he was born unassisted and up sucking in no time. A definite powerhouse to kick off the heifers. Crossroad Limbo displays a dense blood-red hair coat, sporting a large frame with plenty of depth throughout. We have a couple of exciting Sysco daughters to share with you this year. We are very impressed with all the Sysco sons and we can see his good features are being passed on to the Sysco daughters offspring too. This one is without a doubt “a bull maker”.

205 ADJ We purchased her transplant Subaru dam from Westgold Simmentals and she has been a very productive female always bring775 ing home a good calf. Laverne weaned at 900 pounds on September 15. We can see the consistent Sysco features as this heifer develops. Extreme thickness, a solid set of four, and that deep red colour. A fancy moderate framed Sysco daughter that is very angular and fine made for some added feminity. She exhibits a docile temperament, cherry red haircoat, and great composure. We were really on the fence trying to decide if we would part with this one, we know she will make a really good cow. Her dam is a super fancy black that we admire for her depth of body and picture-perfect udder. She is due again in January, we have high 205 ADJ hopes for another female. 18L’s IPU Top Tier sire has been heavily used in the heifer pen. He is extremely deep-sided and full of 638 natural muscle. We see that same thickness in all the calves he sires. They both have Riddler sired dams and this one also has the Ursula donor cow in her pedigree that adds an extra punch of maternal power. Terms & Conditions TERMS – The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made.

Crossroad Farms reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Crossroad Farms reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter.

All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. Crossroad Farms and sales staff has the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment and who has not made prior credit arrangements, prior to the sale with Crossroad Farms.

BID – Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

DISPUTES – In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK – Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY – The proper Registration or Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after the settlement has been made.

SHIPPING – Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Seller. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement.

GUARANTEE – All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the Canadian Simmental Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE – In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the cases of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to the Canadian Simmental Association Guarantee but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze.

HEALTH – All animals will have passed the required tests as determined by Agriculture Canada at sale location. It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state.

ACCIDENTS – Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither Crossroad Farms or any Sales Staff or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS – The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
