Port of Richmond

The Port of Richmond is moving into the new century with plans for developing and expanding existing facilities, thus creating additional infrastructure to accommodate the expanding Bay Area cargo handling needs. Ongoing projects include the reconstruction of an automobile processing facility that was the former scrap metal facility at Terminal 7. The project was completed in the Spring of 2004, resulting in a 120-acre terminal with two berths and rail connection. Phase One of the Terminal 3 expansion was completed, resulting in three additional paved acres. Phase Two will include three paved acres at the north of the terminal and an expanded wharf to accommodate two vessels. These upgrades will enhance the throughput capacity of this breakbulk and container facility. The Port of Richmond Navigation Improvement Project was completed in September 1998. The federal channel between the Chevron Long Wharf and the Santa Fe channel was deepened from -35 to -38 feet and a 1200 foot turning basin was constructed at Point Potereo. The completion of the project meets the Port's immediate and future navigational needs. The marina at Marina Bay has been privatized and leased for a 55 year term to Richmond Bay Marina (Westrec). The management agreement commenced July 2000. The Port of Richmond will continue to promote our niche marketing and provide services to the maritime transportation community.
