Come along and join us in the fantastic world of Thorbjørn Egner! No other books have left such an impression on children growing up in Norway as these books have; the songs, the texts and the characters have become national institutions. And because Thorbjørn Egner was both the illustrator and the writer, the relationship between the pictures and texts is bound in a very special way. Very few authors get closer to the child’s imagination than Egner does. Caries and Bacties has also been immortalized in Ivo Caprino’s puppet film, and a full-scale Cardamom Town has been built at Kristiansand Zoo.

FIC TION

Not only are Egner’s stories performed on stage in many countries, his books have, to date, been translated into 19 languages. And despite being published more than 50 years ago, they are still as popular as ever.

’The brilliance of Egner comes from his ability to tell his stories in such a way that children can understand and fantasize about them. The fantastic and adventurous tales are stamped with a naïve and authentic label.’ TORDIS ØRJASÆTER ON EGNER’S AUTHORSHIP

The Enormous, Slightly Cool Foolfart Book Den kjempestore småstilige Dustefjert-boka Illustrated by Turi Frantze Lauenborg

FIC TION

Rune Belsvik’s books about Foolfart have been compared to Winnie-the-Pooh – and that is not difficult to understand. While Winnie-thePooh has his Hundred Meter Woods, Foolfart lives near a stream along with many different characters. The little country along the stream is a place where there are little events and big ideas. The smallest incident can lead to the biggest commotion. But most days Foolfart skips stones in the water and talks to the ducklings. Piper chops wood. Windbag has wet feet. Doughboy bakes biscuits. Octavia sings and dreams of having a sweetheart. Deep in the woods is a quail keeping a rock warm in her nest. And suddenly the duckling has grown so he is able to run around on his own.

Mummy and Daddy in Heaven Mor og far i himmelen Illustrated by Øyvind Torseter

Mummy and Daddy in Heaven is a unique book; poetic, bold, warm, wise and beautifully composed. A young girl has lost both her parents in a car accident. With a deeply serious subject as a starting point, the book dares to ask fundamental questions, formed as a prayer to God. This is a book about a great sorrow, but also a great faith: in angels, in eternal life, in God. And a book about a child’s religious wonder and doubt. How can God let terrible things happen?
