Summer will be here before you know it, and we are excited about the 2019 lineup of offerings. We welcome back our favorite, most time-tested camps, and we are thrilled to introduce exciting new programs to Summer at the Cape. Our programs are designed to allow students the opportunity to develop their talents, acquire new skills and knowledge, explore new interests, and, most importantly, HAVE FUN during their summer vacation! Cape Henry Collegiate is the largest independent, college-preparatory school in Virginia Beach. It rests on a 30-acre campus just minutes from the Oceanfront. With a 10-to-1 student-toteacher ratio, emphasis is placed on the core values of community, opportunity, scholarship, and integrity. Cape Henry offers a nationally recognized global studies program, rigorous and well-rounded academic program, fantastic offerings in visual and performing arts, competitive athletics program, financial aid, and transportation. Included in this brochure are all of the program descriptions, times, dates, ages, and tuition. Please read everything thoroughly and contact us with any questions you might have. We are here and happy to help!

SUMMER PROGRAMS OFFICE The Lower School Office will serve as the Summer Programs Office during the summer months. The Summer Program’s direct-dial number is (757) 963-8252. Prior to June 3, please contact the Director of Auxiliary Programs at tylerfaubert@capehenry.org or (757) 963-8241 with questions.

REGISTRATION Early registration is encouraged. Camp sizes are limited. Registration payment must be paid in full no later than one week prior to participation in Summer at the Cape. You must register and pay for a full week of camp even if the child will not be there the entire week. Your child is not considered registered for a camp unless full payment has been received. When registration payment is not received one week prior to the program’s start date, Cape Henry Collegiate reserves the right to remove a camper from a Summer program roster. If registering within one week of the program’s start date, payment is expected upon registration. It is important your payment is made at least one week in advance in order to determine if enrollment is sufficient. A payment plan may be established if requested in writing more than one week prior to the start of the program in which the camper is enrolled. Registrations must be completed online. Phoned or faxed registrations will not be accepted. If you have any questions regarding Summer Programs, please contact the Director of Auxiliary Programs at tylerfaubert@capehenry.org or (757) 963-8241.

CAMP CANCELLATIONS Cape Henry Collegiate reserves the right to modify or cancel any summer program with insufficient enrollment. All camps must meet minimum enrollment numbers no later than one week prior to their start date to proceed. If a program is cancelled by the Summer Programs Office, a full refund will be given or may be applied to another camp.

REFUNDS, TRANSFERS, AND WITHDRAWALS A refund will only be permitted if requested in writing more than one week prior to the start of the session in which the camper is enrolled. Fifteen percent (15%) of the camp fee is nonrefundable within one week of the start of the session. Campers withdrawn less than three days prior to the start of camp are responsible for the full tuition. Transfers are permissible up to two weeks prior to the start of camp. There are no prorated fees or refunds for campers arriving after the start of the session, leaving before its completion, or missing any time during camp.

HEALTH FORM In accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia law, each camper must provide Cape Henry Collegiate with a copy of the health form MCH-213G before the first day of camp. The completed MCH-213G must include documentation of all age-appropriate immunizations and a physical examination. All documents must include the date of the physical exam, and the examining physician must sign the immunization form. This health form is required for enrollment in all independent and public schools. Children ages five and under are required to have the MCH-213G on file, and it must be dated within one year before the camp start date. Cape Henry Collegiate students do not need to submit this form for Summer Programs, since it is already on file.

REQUIRED SOCIAL SERVICES PAPERWORK Summer at the Cape specialty and day camps and Extended School Day Program (ESDP) are licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services. In accordance with Social Services policy, we are required to document the identity and age of all children enrolled in these programs. Proof of your child’s identity may include a birth certificate or a birth registration card. If your child is not currently an enrolled student at Cape Henry Collegiate, you will need to bring this documentation to the School prior to the start of camp. Athletic camps are not licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services and do not require proof of birth or Social Services Registration form.

MEDICAL There will be a Camp Nurse on campus from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital (SVBGH) is one mile from Cape Henry’s campus. Severe emergencies requiring immediate medical attention will be taken to SVBGH either by car or ambulance. If a camper takes medication, a separate form will be sent to the parent for specific instructions and a doctor’s authorization. This form and the medication must be given to either the Director of Auxiliary Programs or the Camp Nurse by the parent/guardian of the camper.

LUNCH A lunch in the newly renovated Café Dolphin is included in all full-day camps, unless otherwise noted. If lunch is not included with the camp, you may purchase lunch for $30 per week.

FOOD ALLERGIES Cape Henry Collegiate cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment for students with severe allergies and is not a food allergen-free school. Our goal is to minimize the risk of exposure to allergens that pose a threat to those students and to educate the community about their needs. We ask all families to please avoid packing snacks with peanuts or tree nuts in the ingredients.

SPECIAL PICK-UP DURING CAMP HOURS Any child leaving camp during camp hours must be picked up in the Lower School Office by a parent, guardian, or family member. Advance notice is greatly appreciated. Please inform the Director of Auxiliary Programs and your child’s camp instructor in writing/email of early departures.

ABSENCE NOTIFICATION If your camper is going to be absent, please call and leave a voicemail message at (757) 963-8252. Please do not forget to include the date of the absence, your child’s name, and the specific camp in which he or she is enrolled.

All full-day campers receive a full-service, well-balanced lunch from the newly renovated Café Dolphin, and all full- and half-day campers receive a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack and drink. Twice a week campers will immerse themselves in Cape Henry’s science labs, working on experiments and exercises to learn and test the theme of the week. In addition to these wonderful and creative topics, students will spend time with age-appropriate reading, writing, and math while having the opportunity to work on summer academic assignments for the upcoming school year. EXERCISE AND FUN: Campers take part in daily freeplay and structured activities within all of Cape Henry’s fantastic facilities. Cape Henry boasts a spacious, air-conditioned field house with P.E. equipment and supplies for every game and activity. A turf field and multiple grass athletic fields host countless outdoor games, and a state-of-the-art playground caters to the imagination of all age groups. SWIMMING: Partnered with Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation, Day Camp groups travel via bus to Great Neck Recreation Center (Dolphins and Sharks) and to Seatack Recreation Center (Little Dolphins and Sandfiddlers) twice a week for age-appropriate swim lessons. Lessons are taught by American Red Cross-certified swim instructors while supervised by American Red Cross-certified lifeguards. The swim curriculum is developed and taught by the aquatic staff of Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation. Campers travel to and from swim lessons with their lead teachers, and their lead teachers remain poolside throughout each swim lesson.
