We are proud to present our Private Treaty Bull Sale offering for 2019. When we take people through our cow herd, we always get the comment “Your cattle are so quiet!”… And if you know our cattle, you know that is the case! Herefords are the leaders in docility, and I think there was a time when we Hereford breeders did not embrace this compared to our friends who had cattle with a little more zip. More than ever, the “economics” of docility are being analyzed, and the research has proven that docile temperament increases cattle profitability through lowered production costs and better meat quality. Cattle with a good temperament are easier to handle, safer to be around at calving time, adjust better to new environments, and tend to perform better in all phases of the production chain.

The Hereford breed is also being recognized for its efficiency. Hereford and Hereford influence cattle consistently require less feed than cattle of other breeds, per pound of gain and for body maintenance. Disposition, the thick hide, and excellent hair coat of Hereford cattle are among the reasons less energy is required to stay warm in the winter, thereby reducing feed costs.
This year, we are pleased to offer the first calves sired by our Duramax bull. Like their sire, our Duramax calves have that extra style and eye appeal. They all have great hair coats, lots of jam, and show excellent structural soundness and a good foot. You will also see a picture of our new herd sire, 707. Anyone that has seen 707 admires his overall body, mass, and breed character. We believe he will compliment our cows well, and we look forward to offering his first calves next year. Each bull sells halter-broke, semen tested, veterinarian inspected, and fully guaranteed. Most important is for our customers to be confident that behind every one of these bulls is a mother you would be proud to have a field full of. Granite has as much style and profile as any bull in our pen. He is super sound and carries that extra length of body. His mom is a moderate framed first-calver from our Betty cow family that really did a great job. Real Time is a bull that is tough to fault. You will admire him for his fluid stride, extra body, and overall muscle mass. He is a 2 year old’s first calf, who you can see by her picture is quite a beauty herself. Add on the big red eyes, red testicles, and cherry color, and you have the total package. Real Time was the Grand Champion Bull at Farmfair this year… no small feat for a calf, and speaks to his high quality.

Kona is a long bodied calf with the thickness and soundness that will compliment any herd. He was our only Kickstart bull calf. If you could see the Kickstart heifers in our replacement pen, including the two we showed at Farmfair, you can see why we think highly of this bull and are using Kickstart again. Kona’s dam is a hard working Lincoln daughter that always raises us a good one.

Encore is the top performance bull in our pen this year. Lots of shape, lots of rib, and extra length of body is what you get with this guy. His Rhino dam is a hard working 3 year old that was Reserve Grand Champion Female at Farmfair in 2015. Her first calf was part of our show team last year, and was the high selling bull in our pen.

There is power in the blood here. Highmark’s maternal sister was Nathan’s 4-H heifer that is pictured that went on to be Grand Champion Female at the Olds Fall Classic and Farmfair. Like his sister, Highmark is a high quality calf that is made right and marked nice. Heifer Approved.

Bruno is a younger Duramax calf out of a big bodied, good uddered cow that was bred by Jay Holmes. Like all of our Duramax calves, Bruno has lots of body, hair and shape. Heifer Approved.
In 2018, our heifer calf crop outnumbered our bull calves big time, and we now have too many females for our pasture to handle. These heifers are sisters to the bulls pictured, and they are equally as good. They have performance, style, color and documentation to make them herd builders. If you are interested in one or a group, give us a call.
