Sector: Manufacturing

DUST REDUCTION AND INDOOR AIR IMPROVED AIR QUALITY IMPROVED IN LARGE MANUFACTURING PLANT PRESSPART MANUFACTURING HAS BEEN A CLIENT OF CAMFIL FOR SOME TIME USING CAMFIL’S MOLECULAR FILTRATION PRODUCTS AND EXPERTISE Presspart is the market leader in bespoke deep-drawn and injection-moulded components for the pharmaceutical and other specialist industrial markets. They manufacture a range of products including clinical inhalers and cartridge pen barrels. Camfil visited the client and it was mentioned that they were experiencing problems in their industrial barrelling area with excessive dust emitting from the process and contaminating the workplace. In 2015, they will be relocating the process and will require extract / air cleaning systems installation. Camfil conducted a return visit to the site to undertake particle count using an Aerotrak Particle Counter

At 0.3 – 0.5 micron size the count averaged around 30,000,000 particles per m3.

CAMFIL CASE STUDY CONCLUSION

Two weeks later, Camfil returned to undertake particle count and record Pd across filters –

From the testing and measurements recorded, it was clear that the Camfil air cleaner provides a much cleaner and healthier working environment for the operators and reduction in cleaning frequency, and also costs of the work area. Upon completion of the initial trial, the client purchased the CamCleaner 6000 unit to maintain the vastly improved indoor air quality it had delivered. Coupled with the dust reduction and cleaning time required, the industrial air cleaner is now recognised as one of the vital pieces of equipment at the manufacturing plant.

Particle Count, 0.3 – 0.5 reduced to 5,000,000 (0.5 – 1.0 Zero) Pd across Pre: 23Pa - across both pre and final 93Pa.

The readings of the final visit to the Presspart Site were as follows: Pd across pre: 25Pa – across both pre and final 105 Pa. DATE

SOLUTION Camfil recommended air cleaners to rectify the situation however the client was concerned about the life time of the filters and the ongoing costs being prohibitive. Camfil arranged an initial trial of their industrial CamCleaner 6000 air cleaner units which were installed within the barrelling area adjacent to the shaker and operator inspection workstation. The unit was set to run at 3000 m3/hr. The client reported that the CamCleaner had been running 24/7 and the operator of the area stated that he ‘Feels better air quality’ and that his eyes and throat are not as irritable when he returns home from work. All vessels were cleaned on the day following installation of the air cleaner and there was no visible dust covering apparent. The client continued operational processes and all barrelling machines were running during the second period of the trial to establish maximum working conditions.
