Gregory Porter

Wed 29 Oct | 7.30pm £29.50, £26.50

Fri 31 Oct | 7.30pm Tickets £37.50, £34.50, £25

Somewhere between a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical chamber music ensemble, a Brazilian marching street band and Japanese film noir is the 12-piece Pink Martini. Part language lesson, part Hollywood musical, the Portland, Oregon-based ‘little orchestra’ was created in 1994 by Harvard graduate and classically trained pianist Thomas M. Lauderdale.

At the start of 2010 the buzz about Los Angeles-born and now Brooklyn-based jazz/soul vocalist Gregory Porter was a strong, steady murmur.

Equally at home performing its romantic, multi-lingual repertoire on concert stages and in smokey bars, Pink Martini draws a wildly diverse crowd. The show also features original Pink Martini vocalist China Forbes.

14

Now the buzz has built to a roar – with a Grammy nomination and critics world over hailing him as the ‘leader of the pack’ with an extraordinary presence. Porter’s magnificent voice, utterly brilliant use of poetry and unguarded depth of emotional delivery has fuelled his rapid rise to fame. Critics the world over, from the Wall Street Journal to Jazz Times are hailing Porter as a new king of jazz, a performer of extraordinary presence who has been compared with the greatest of the greats such as Joe Williams, Nat Cole, Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye.

Following a sold-out 2013 tour, three Olivier Award nominations and over 10 million YouTube hits for Cheap Flights (their infamous anthem to budget air travel), Dillie Keane, Adele Anderson and Liza Pulman continue to celebrate over 30 years of Fascinating Aïda with their terrific new show Charm Offensive.

Jools Holland will be bringing the greatest boogie-woogie party around the UK once again and this time he will be joined by his much loved Rhythm & Blues Orchestra.

For the first time in almost 20 years, Squeeze’s Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook will be heading out on the road presenting their songs and story in a unique way.

He will be joined by special guest vocalist Marc Almond, along with Ruby Turner, Louise Marshall and the tireless drums of original Squeeze member Gilson Lavis. The show will feature tracks spanning his entire solo career as well as songs taken from his latest album The Golden Age of Song.

Having survived through turbulent times over the past four decades, from the everchanging musical landscape to their own internal reshuffles and an acrimonious break-up, the lads will reflect on their careers with hits that include Up The Junction and Cool For Cats.

Expect topical new songs hot off the press plus some outrageous old favourites as Fascinating Aïda continue to grow old disgracefully!

‘Engages the brain as well as the funny-bone.’ The Times

The duo will share not only stories as part of Squeeze and as solo artists, but also giving an insight in to what makes the two of them tick as a partnership. Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.

Sat 29 – Sun 30 Nov | 8pm Tickets £42, £37.50

Thu 27 Nov | 7.30pm Tickets £28

The award-winning actor, best-selling novelist and all round very funny lady has written a new show based on her life and career. Consisting of various delights and riches, with the odd irksome tribulation thrown in, she takes the audience through the various lessons life has taught her, and the things she knows for sure.

Twenty years ago Britain’s favourite publican, Al Murray The Pub Landlord, embarked on his one man mission as the King of Common Sense, holding back a tide of bottled beer and ninny state nonsense.

The evidence is there for all to see. She is already three quarters certifiably daft. The other quarter is utterly bewildered. And the remaining quarter simply can’t do maths. With a sharp eye for comic detail and a wicked ear for the absurdities of life, Dawn French of Cornwall shares how she has misguidedly spent her whole life vigorously attempting to be a fully functioning female human. Catch the show. Or feel like a fool.

To celebrate this milestone join this icon on his new tour with his brand new show One Man, One Guvnor.
