HEALING THROUGH ART... “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”, are the words of Albert Einstein. What are fairy tales? As far as we know, they open our minds, they make us free, that’s why, Freedom can be experienced only by those, who are really Free, through imagination, fairy tales and dreams... Freedom does not depend on nationality, religion, social class, genre or possessions... Freedom is exclusively a state of Mind... A state of Mind that has overcome fear and anger... A state of Mind that has achieved full Understanding... A state of Mind ruled by Beauty, Love and Friendship... It is time to reveal ourselves, showing to the whole world, who we really are, without any fear… And if what we are displeases us, then we have to change and become better persons, without any excuse or delay… To continue betraying ourselves and weight down the others for our miserable situation, can’t be accepted anymore by anyone… Many times mythological and religious symbols have been misinterpreted… For example the killing of a beast by Velerefontis in Ancient Greece, by Saint George and Angels in Christianity, or the so called great holy war in Islam… It has absolutely nothing to do with wars, violence and killing… It has to do with man’s therapy and elevation from individualism and selfishness to Love and Friendship with all living creatures and the entire universe… The acceptance of our own situation, our determination to change and enjoy whatever we do, and, finally, being enthusiastic about Life is the key to Love, Friendship and Happiness... People can find ways to live a full Life and be real happy, without a lot of money, but they can never find ways to live without Love, they become sick and die… Healed people are people who dream… Dreams are always the beginning of every new Reality… Our Reality in AthensArt is a World of Light, Dialogue, Peace, Love and Friendship through Art… Through Art, because Art, being directly related to Beauty, and Beauty to Emotional Therapy, can set us Free… LOVE is the key word of Life… Today, not only great mystics, but even scientists, psychiatrists, cell biologists etc, agree on that… The question that arises is: What is Love? What do we mean by the word Love? And, How can Love

be cultivated among People? As far as I have been taught, by a great Alexandrian Artist, Philosopher and Humanist, Ostad Mahmoud Helmi, Love and Friendship, is not just a superficial sensation or a mood of short duration. It is a law, as much as gravity is a law, being precisely described, which needs many years to be learnt, in order to overcome fear, anger and despair, and achieve, step by step, understanding of our own reality and the reality of our fellowmen… In our century, Artists have the duty to create only Beauty, because, more than in any other century, we, humans, need urgently Therapy… The artist of today has to underline the barbarity of our societies not anymore in a cruel and violent way, but in a satiric and humoristic one... What is important too, I think, is to describe with his/her brushes and colors the friendly societies, we wish to live and share among us, with our children... Let me close my short speech with the wonderful words of a great Brazilian woman poet Cecilia Meireles: “Renovate you. / Reborn in yourself. Multiply your eyes, to see more. / Multiply your arms to seed everything. Destroy the eyes that have seen. / Create others for new visions. Destroy the arms that have seeded / Forget the spoon. Always be the same. / And every time another. But always high. / Always away. / And inside everything” Prof. Dr. Takis Alexiou, CA4S-AthensArt Chairman

A significant component of my “self” deals with lines, colors, and movements. Colors should embody harmony; for the viewer they should arouse agreeable feelings. With my lines, I would like to show a high level of accuracy contrasting the photo-gram-movements that mirror autonomy. My art serves realization, not entertainment, transfiguration or the play.

HENGAMEH FARAHMAND Hengameh Farahmand was born in Shiraz (Iran) 1962. She lives and works in Hamburg (Germany). The most striking element in Hengameh’s paintings is her passion for vivid colours and oriental motives, which she explores through the use of a wide range of unique mixed media techniques. She often explores themes of love, aspiration, dreams and compassion, often blurring the boundaries between imagination and reality. The surfaces of her paintings are also a very important aspect of her work; the marks and textures and the play of light onto metallic surfaces brings a third dimension to works which often leave viewers transfixed. Hengameh has exhibited her works widely with a prominent exhibition at the Open Air Gallery in Berlin, followed by several international exhibitions around the globe such as, Athens (AthensArt-2010), Vienna Travel Gallery, the Acquire Artsgallery in London, Grekof Museum Rostov on Don/Russia, Veakio open air Theater of Piraeus in Athens dedicated to PEACE and other group exhibitions in Crete, Chora of Naxos and Corfu, International Prints for Peace in Mexico and International Arts Festival Bispgürden in Sweden. SUMMER JOY

TANJA HOFFMANN Tanja Hoffmann, Germany. I have been purposefully concerning myself with painting for many years. Only the artistic inspiration and therefore the free creation of a work of art and not a set subject counts as far as I am concerned. Those who look at the paintings and occupy themselves with them should be aware of these: the passion, the thought, the virtuosity. I have learned numerous forms of presentation and developed new techniques by autodidactic means through continual advancement and by experimenting with water-colors as a media. When doing so, I have in the meantime distanced myself from the conventional water-color painting form and have found new forms of expression. When creating a painting, I allow myself to be guided and governed by my sensory perceptions. I myself see the creative process as being a journey of exploration with a destination which only manifests itself during the course of the work.

Mine is a trip through the force of creation before elements take a definite form. It’s a search of the line separating what’s known from what’s unknown, through a steady tension towards balance and harmony. The invisible thread, separating the inside from the outside, breaks. Trying to understand the unintelligible we discover to be thrills in the heart of chaos .
