Galveston, Texas Director Jay Estrada, Rider Films, Musika Productions and Ravel Studios are in the pre-production phase of their new feature motion picture “MadCat”. They are shooting the first trailer coming this couple of months. The story follows Lexa, a well-trained mixed martial artist in the year 2023. When Lexa’s father is killed by the syndicate and in order to avenge her father’s death, Lexa takes on the identity of comic book character “MadCat” and enters a “fight to the death” tournament. A tournament run by the same “syndicate” that killer her father. And, she is set for revenge. She will have to fight the demons within her self as well as the many martial art disciplines on her way to finding the head of the Corporation. “I Grew up watching Bruce Lee movies”, comments Director Jay Estrada. “I want to make the film that Bruce Lee was intending to make with “The Game of Death”, with the basis of the fighting, circulated around different mixed martial arts styles.” Jay Estrada IMDB: ( www.imdb.com/name/nm5270023/ ) Shooting is to take place here in Houston and in the Austin area. The team hopes to be shooting with an Epic Red. They are, however, more concerned with getting some maneuverable cameras to follow the action without getting to shaky of footage. So far casting includes Natali Jones from Garland, Texas. ( www.imdb.com/name/nm1312421/ ) Ms. Jones has numerous credits including “Spavine”, “Imago”, “Placeholders” “Spider-Man 3”, “Darkest Days”, “Echoes of Innocence” and “Walker, Texas Ranger”. Also cast is Houston’s Jennifer Rodriguez. ( www.imdb.com/name/nm4029437/ ) Ms. Rodriguez has several credits under her name including “Color of Sound”, “The Darq” and the upcoming project “The Kid”. Produced by Jay Estrada, Ruben Estrada and Natali Jones, “MadCat” will be Director Jay Estrada’s second feature motion picture. He is currently working on a feature titled “Queen of the Waves” which should wrap later this year and has worked on Director Jorge Nunez’s feature “The Lotus”. In this feature “MadCat”, Mr. Estrada plans to utilize a lot more action and choreographed fights in this movie which he has not done before. “I tend to use a lot of characteristics of the position of the camera, to help dictate the feel of the scene”, explains Director Estrada. “For this movie, I want to use the wide shot of the fights, as Bruce Lee tended to do to shoot his fight scenes. I will utilize close-ups to show the intensity of the character’s expressions”. C47Houston will keep you posted on this post-apocalyptic feature movie. The team anticipates that this movie will start production coming up this summer, 2015. They anticipate wrapping “MadCat” sometime 4th quarter of 2015, with a release 2nd quarter of 2016, next year. For the past several years, C47Houston News & Entertainment Magazine and its new supplementary publication, C47Houston WEEKLY, have provide a forum for Movie makers, musicians, artists and theater. The Publisher and Producer of the magazine, Hector Luna, established C47Houston January 1st, 2008 and has branded this publication as a news outlet for Independent Houston and Texas visual artists. We were able to catch up with the Producer of the magazine, which has now completely gone digital and we asked him a few questions. Producer Hector Luna, rarely gives out interviews and this is very much an exclusive. By Cinnamon Auld

C47Houston: What inspired you to start up a magazine about the Houston TV and Film scene? H. Luna: I get asked that a lot. But, honestly, it was from a need to fill a void that wasn’t there. I was actually part of a court-show audience here in Houston, as a way to learn about what was going on and ran into Southwest Casting’s Joe Grisaffi and, at the time, Sara Gaston. They were providing the “audiences” for the show. I got to talk to actors and they couldn’t tell me who was who or what was going on in this city. So, I decided to gather some information, started up my computer, took some pictures, wrote some quick informational pieces, plugged that all into a magazine format and took it to the printers. C47Houston: Did you have some experience with this type of work? H. Luna: Well, certainly not the publishing business. However, I was a producer for CBS News KHOU-TV Channel 11 for several years. It was there that I learned how to put “packages” together and write succinctly and concisely. And, of course, I have a legal background so I put all that together and “voila” I am in the publishing business. It’s been a learning experience to publish and a very costly venture, but, I think I have managed to make it work. C47Houston: What does it take to do what you do? H. Luna: Well, aside from dedication, I have to wear different hats. I think the trick is having a sense of timing and organization. I am dealing with constant deadlines and lack of space. However, saying that about the lack of space, my move to be digital has opened that door to increase the amount of information I disseminate, whereas before it was just too expensive. Without timing and organizational skills I don’t believe that I would be able to produce this publication. I am the Producer, the writer, I lay out the format, I get the interviews, I get the pictures and the list goes on and on. It never stops.

www.C47Houston.com

C47Houston Producer/Publisher

Hector Luna

C47Houston: What is it that you hope to accomplish? H. Luna: That’s no big secret. My goal is simply to bring the movie industry to Texas, and, specifically, to Houston. While it is interesting to note that, as a whole, this state is producing some very quality motion pictures and some very creative movie makers, it is the “business” that is still in California. C47Houston: What do you think can be done to change it? H. Luna: Personally, I don’t think it is the incentives that will create an industry here in Texas. WE are, and to a certain extent still, an oil and gas state. Some of the best negotiators in the country are here in Texas. We have “clout”. WE need for these people to step up to the plate and negotiate these “deals” with investors and to negotiate with distribution platforms that make sense, that make money, that encourages future speculation and resulting in a solid foundation for a viable infrastructure. But, it’s going to take a re-thinking of how a project is sold and marketed. WE live in a fragmented, fast-paced, information is free and I want it now and anywhere reality. How does one compete with that mentality? C47Houston: We have read some of your comments regarding industry “clicks” and the lack of cohesiveness in the industry, any further comments? H. Luna: I see you have done your homework. The bottom line is that no matter what industry you work, there is always going to be “clicks”. Not everyone is going to like what you do, as a group, or as an individual. The in-fighting in this city’s movie industry if filled with egos and there is nothing wrong with that. However, don’t ask me to dislike someone because you dislike them. I don’t make movies...I publish NEWS. C47Houston: Last question: How are subscription sales? H. Luna: My accountant tells me that since I discontinued the hardcopy aspect of the magazine, sales have dropped substantially over the last year. Yup, I can only afford to put regular gas in the car. But, things are moving forward as I continue to provide an outlet for independent projects in Houston and across the state. I am happy with what’s happening and sales are on the increase.

“I'll say it again. Houston's small film community and new artists on the way are doing very, very well ensuring that what they put out is quality over quantity. I would be deceiving myself if I said that I didn't feel ever so slightly in a competitive mood. Friendly competition is more than welcomed. 2015 belongs to the small filmmakers.” Filmmaker Colin Njemanze
