Saturday, May 9th Starting at 9PM Organizer Byron Canady, Houston Splash and The Houston Splash Film Festival invite the pubic to the HOUSTON PREMIER of Director Patrik-Ian Polk’s new feature motion picture “Blackbird” starting at 9PM at the University of Houston’s Student Affairs Theater (4800 Calhoun Rd. Houston, TX 77004) on the campus of the University of Houston-Main Campus, May 9th, this coming Saturday. Written by Rikki Beadle Blair and Patrik-Ian Polk the story follows 17year old Randy Rousseau (played by Julian Walker), a high school choirboy struggling to come of age in a small religiously conservative Mississippi town. Randy juggles his role as the “star” of the church choir while facing the everyday trails of life as a high school misfit, plagued by eerie visions and premonitions. When his little sister goes missing, and his parents split up leaving Randy to care for his heartbroken mother Clair (played by Mo’Nique) his life gets complicated. When Claire discovers a shocking secret her son, Randy, has been hiding, she

Houston Executive Producer Lynn Birdwell of Bird House Productions, the Rivet production company and Pam Johnson, breath coach and founder of the Heights School of Yoga, invite the pubic to the screening of their new short art film “Breath: The Pulse of the Universe: Tadasana Troupe Performance and Meditation” starting at 7PM, Thursday, May 14th, next week, at the Rothko Chapel (3900 Yupon St., Houston, TX 77006). The short movie is an inspirational piece that captures the metaphysical essence of slow-motion, rhythmic breath and luminosity. It was created to allow viewers to observe and become keenly aware of the sound and movement that is our life force - the “breath” and for the participant to feel the essence and integrity of the ancient healing practice of yoga and to develop our human capacity so that we may grow and mature our sacred and peaceful internal spaces. The film will be projected onto the exterior of the chapel building. In collaboration, the team is presenting a unique “LIVE” performance inside the center of Rothko Chapel by six Mandala Troupe members. Suggested donation is $10 Register at: RothkoChapel.org

May 7th, 8th and 9th Working in conjunction with Splash Pride, our friend, filmmaker Byron Canady has founded and organized a new addition to Houston Splash and invites the public to the debut presentation of The Houston Splash Mini Film Festival starting at 7PM Thursday, May 7th and Friday, May 8th at the Texas Southern University Public Affairs Lecture Auditorium (3011 Cleburne St., Houston, TX 77004) and at 9PM Saturday, May 9th at the University of Houston’s Student Affairs Theater (4800 Calhoun Rd., Houston TX 77004). The Houston Splash Mini Film Festival has curated three feature movies including the 2013 documentary “The New Black” by Director Yoruba Richen (screening Thursday, May 7th) , the 2008 documentary “Still Black” by Dr. Kortney Ryan Ziegler (screening Friday, May 8th) and the Houston PRIEMERE of the narrative feature movie by Director Apatrik-Ian Polk “Blackbird” (screening Saturday, May 9th). The Film festival will also screen several short movies including such shorts as “Bumming Cigarettes”, “Vow of Silence” and “You’re Cute for a Black Guy”. The 4th Annual 2015 Austin Revolution Film Festival taking place Wednesday, September 23rd through Sunday, September 27th, 2015 in Austin, Texas. The Festival is accepting Features, Shorts, Feature Screenplays, Webseries/TV, Music Videos, Trailers, Short Film Screenplays, Television pilots, Television Screen plays, Student Features and Student Short Film projects. All projects must be the “original work” of the filmmakers and all filmmakers must have the necessary rights. Films must not have distribution and Texas PREMIERES are preferred. Tuesday, May 12th at 9PM LaTonia Adeniran from Allied Intergraded Marketing-Houston and 43KixHouston invite Houston viewers to tune-in to the Food Network’s “Chopped All-Stars” starting at 9PM (10PM ET/PT). on the Food Network, every Tuesday night. Hosted by Ted Allen, the 5-part competition series features four chefs going head-to-head each week over three rounds including Appetizers, Entrées and desserts. In each round the chefs create unique and delicious dishes using the mystery ingredients within the “Chopped” basket. Sunday, May 24 starting at 7PM As you are aware from our last WEEKLY the Premiere screenings of one-of-a-kind short movies took place over two nights, Tuesday, April 28th and Wednesday, April 29th, late last month and all at the Alamo Drafthouse-Vintage Park, Houston Texas. Both night’s were SOLDOUT and standing room only, as was expected. Judging continues and the winners will be announced at this year’s Comicpalooza: The Texas International Comic Con, Sunday May 24th starting at 7PM at the George R. Brown Convention Center (Downtown Houston, 1001 Avenida de Las Americas, Houston, Texas 77010). Currently, the room and tickets are being worked out with Comicpalooza and we will let you know as soon as we find out the logistics. Comicpalooza-Houston runs Friday, May 22nd through Monday, May 25th at the George R. Brown Convention Center-Downtown Houston. According to The ZONE team, the movies recently screened Tuesday and Wednesday will also be screening during Comicpalooza-Houston, May 22nd through May 25th at the Convention center. Both Mr. Gwynn and Mr. Jacob are working to lock down the screening schedule.
