ERIC BIBB

HOW TO CATCH A STAR

Eric Bibb’s new album Deeper In The Well is being hailed as one of the most important roots albums of recent years. Not only does it cross genres – folk, gospel, acoustic blues, and down-home country – but it offers a sound steeped in the rural Louisiana where it was recorded.

Once there was a boy and he loved stars very much. Every night he watched stars from his bedroom window and wished he had one of his own. One day, he decided he would try to catch a star. But first he had to think of a plan.

His breakthrough album, Good Stuff, released in 1997, was followed by Me To You, featuring some of his personal heroes, among them Pops & Mavis Staples. There then followed the Grammy-nominated Shakin’ a Tailfeather (with Taj Mahal & Linda Tillery & the Cultural Heritage Choir); Friends, which featured Odetta, Charlie Musselwhite, Guy Davis & Taj Mahal; and two collaborations with his father, A Family Affair and Praising Peace: A Tribute to Paul Robeson. More recent was his 2010 Booker’s Guitar, a tribute to blues pioneer Bukka White. A four-decade career, 35 albums, countless radio and TV shows and non-stop touring have given Eric Bibb a world and music view that’s tempered by curiosity and compassion.
