Happy Canada Day, Burnaby and New West

The Burnaby NOW and the New Westminster Record are proud to present this special section highlighting the fun local events being staged in our communities to celebrate Canada Day.

In the following pages you’ll find helpful guides to the array of community get-togethers and festivals welcoming celebrants in Burnaby and NewWest.

Thankfully, the pandemic that put the brakes on celebrations in the early years of this decade continues to fade, and this year’s events promise to be among the biggest and best in recent memory

Happy Canada Day!

Yoga, music in Queen’s Park

Queen’s Park won’t be hosting a big Canada Day celebration, but NewWestminster’s always-popular summer destination has some offerings for your holiday weekend.

It starts with yoga in the park on Saturday, July 1

Before you dive into a jam-packed day, take some time to breathe and stretch in silence You don’t have to do it alone get your activewear on, grab a yoga mat and join a group of people at the Queen’s Park bandshell and get into the flow. The event is free, but registration is required as space is limited

The session runs from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Note that it’s weather dependent, so it will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather (but so far, the forecast looks promising). For information and a link to registration, see www tinyurl com/ CanadaDayYoga2023

Then, on Sunday afternoon, July 2, you can return to the park for the next offering in the Queen’s Park concert series Jada McKenzie-Moore takes to the

ONSTAGE:

stage at 2 p.m., armed with her voice, guitar and a looper

“It’s hard to describe her eclectic sound, but if Adele married Ed Sheeran, and they invited Imagine Dragons over for a backyard BBQ, they might start jamming and sound a lot like Jada around the fire pit,” explains a write-up about her show.

The Queen’s Park concerts are free and open to all turn out to the bandshell to enjoy the music.

On On

On this 156th anniversary of the confederation of this country, Hyack Festival reflects on all of the history that has brought us to who we are as a nation today. We have come a long way, but we recognize that we have an even longer way to go from here. As we put our most earnest foot forward, we acknowledge that we are here on territories that were unceded and unsurrendered to us by Coast Salish and all Halkomelem speakin peoples We have gratitude that we ar able to work, live, and play in this beautiful country we have come to cherish.
