The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team was outscored 41-33 in the second half and fell in its return to Alumni Arena, 69-56, to the visiting Miami (OH) RedHawks. The Bulls shot it well in the second half, but recorded 12 turnovers, which Miami took advantage of. The Bulls got off to a hot start to the game as they took an early six point lead just five minutes into the contest, going on a 9-0 run, which was capped off on a three pointer from freshman Mackenzie Loesing. The RedHawks, however, responded with a 12-0 run to take a six-point lead of their own. The Bulls opened the second half on a 7-2 run, tying the game up at 30-30 on a layup from Margeaux Gupilan, but the RedHawks responded with four straight points. The second three pointer of the night from Moss cut the Miami (OH) lead to one at 40-39, but the RedHawks responded with a 12-2 lead taking their first double-digit lead at 11. Redshirt junior Cherridy Thornton led the way for Buffalo with 13 points, but did so on 5-of-17 shooting. Loesing had 12 points doing most of her damage from the free throw line where she was 7-of-9. She added five rebounds and two steals. Gupilan added nine points and a game-high five steals. A trio of UB players finished with six points, including Karin Moss and senior Nicki Hopkins, who each did so with two three pointers. Sophomore Christa Baccas had six points, a game-high nine rebounds, two assists, three blocked shots.

The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team allowed just 35 points and led wire-to-wire, defeating the Ohio Bobcats, 56-35. The Bulls forced the Bobcats into tough shots all game as Ohio shot just 24 percent from the floor. The Bulls opened the game on a 9-1 run and despite going over seven minutes without a field goal in the opening half, UB allowed just three points to Ohio in that span and then responded on an 11-2 run to take a 20-6 advantage. A three pointer from senior Nicki Hopkins put Buffalo up by 17 in the first half, its largest lead of the half. The Bulls opened up an 18-point lead on the Bobcats just two minutes into the second half on a fast break layup from Sloane Walton, but then the Bulls had another scoring drought, allowing Ohio to go on a 6-0 run over an eight and a half minute period. However, the UB defense kept Buffalo in the game and Cherridy Thornton ended the run with a jumper with 9:47 left. The Bulls began to rebuild their lead and a three-pointer from Walton put UB up by 21, 49-28 with 5:08 left. Walton led the Bulls with 14 points off the bench, one of three players in double figures. She went 4-for-8 from behind the arc, while adding three offensive rebounds and an assist. Despite being in foul trouble all afternoon, freshman Mackenzie Loesing still managed to finish with 12 points as she was one of only two Buffalo players made it to the free throw line.

The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team fought hard for 40 minutes against the defending MAC East Champions, but a significant disadvantage at the free throw line proved costly as the Bulls fell 56-43. Both teams started out slow and Buffalo really struggled offensively over the first 13 minutes as it had just five points and was down 19-5. However, UB continued to fight and cut into the Bowling Green lead as it hit six of its final eight shots in the half. The Bulls went into the break down just eight at 27-19 despite a 12-0 deficit in free throw attempts over the first 20 minutes. The Falcons extended their lead to 35-21 early in the second half, but the Bulls responded with a 9-0 run, started on a three pointer from Sloane Walton and ending on a fast break layup from freshman Mackenzie Loesing to put Buffalo within five at 35-30 with 13:04 left. The Bulls looked to have gotten a big defensive stop on the next possession, but a loose ball foul gave the ball back to the Falcons and triggered a 14-4 run, putting them back up by 15. Loesing finished with a game-high 15 points before fouling out, while Margeaux Gupilan added 10 points, all coming in the first half. Sophomore Christa Baccas added seven points, a team-high nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while Kristen Sharkey added eight rebounds. Redshirt junior Cherridy Thornton added five points and Walton had three.
