BROWN LIPSITZ HEAD COACH • FOURTH SEASON • PENN STATE ‘11

Blair Brown Lipsitz begins her fourth season as head coach of the UB volleyball team after being named to the position on April 7, 2015. A four-time National Champion and twotime First-Team All-American, Lipsitz joined the Bulls after serving as director of the U.S Elite Volleyball Camp. In 2017, the Bulls had their best season Mid-American Conference season since joining the league as UB finished 8-8 in confernece play, the first time they had ever been .500 or better. Buffalo finshed in fifth place in league play, its highest ever finish. Cassie Shado became the first Bull to be named All-MAC First Team in multiple seasons, while freshman Andrea Mitrovic was named to the league’s allfreshmen team. In her first season with the Bulls, Lipsitz guiding a young team to a 6-10 record in MAC play, tying for its best record ever in the conference at that time and earning a trip to the MAC Tournament. The Bulls placed two members on the All-MAC team following her first season in Megan Lipski and Shado. Lipsitz helped Shado to first-team All-MAC honors during her second season as Shado hit .400 during the year, while

setter Scout McLerran was named to the league’s all-freshman team. Lipsitz was a four-time National Champion at Penn State (200710) and a two-time First-Team All-American (2009 & 2010), as well as a Second-Team All-American in 2008. She was named the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2010, while also winning the Honda Sports Award, which is given to the best collegiate female athlete in each different sport. While at Penn State, the Nittany Lions had a streak of 109 straight victories. Following her career at Penn State, Lipsitz trained with the U.S. National Team. “I think Blair is an exciting hire for the UB Volleyball program,” said Penn State Head Coach Russ Rose. “She is one of only three individuals who have won four consecutive NCAA National Championships at the collegiate level. I believe that her experience gives her a good foundation to make great contributions to the development of the players and the team” Following her collegiate career, Lipsitz played professionally from 2011 through 2013, having seen time in Italy, Puerto Rico and France. Her final professional season was in 2013 when she played for the Evreux Volleyball Club in Evreux, France. Lipsitz has also been working as director of the U.S. Elite Volleyball Camp, which she has done since co-founding the program in 2011. Taking part in 16 different locations, the camp expanded to over 340 campers in 2013. Lipsitz also spent the spring of 2014 working as a volunteer assistant for UB under previous head coach Reed Sunahara. She also served as an analyst for UB Volleyball matches on ESPN3 during the 2014 season.

Lipsitz is a 2010 graduate of Penn State University with degrees in English and Political Science. She lives in Amherst, NY with her husband Max, who was also an All-American at Penn State in men’s volleyball. They have a newborn daughter, Liv.

SMITH

ASSISTANT COACH • FOURTH SEASON • APPALACHAIN ST. ‘07 Scott Smith begins his fourth year on the UB Volleyball Staff where he serves as recruiting coordinator for Coach Lipsitz. He joined the staff from Georgia Southern where he spent five seasons as an assistant on the Eagles’ staff. Last year, Smith was instrumental in the Bulls finishing with their best MAC record in school history at 8-8 as several players that he primarily recruited were some of UB’s top players during the season, including Andrea Mitrovic, who was named to the MAC’s all-freshmen team. In his first season with the Bulls, Smith helped coach the Bulls to 6-10 record in MAC play, tying for its best record ever in the conference at the time and earning a trip to the MAC Tournament. At Georgia Southern, his primary responsibilities were recruiting, assisting with daily practices, scouting and video editing. The Eagles have won over 100 matches during Smith’s five years on the coaching staff, making two of the school’s four NCAA Tournament appearances and winning two regular-season Southern Conference titles.

SCOTT SMITH

Smith served as a graduate assistant coach at Georgia Southern in 2010 and 2011 while earning his master’s degree in kinesiology exercise science. The native of Herndon, Va., Smith served as the freshman volleyball head coach at Herndon High School and assistant for the varsity team from 2008-09. Smith spent three seasons as a Select Division coach for the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association (2007-10). He also served as the Camp Director for the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association in the summer of 2012. A 2007 graduate of Appalachian State with a bachelor’s degree in recreation management, Smith worked with the volleyball team as a student assistant in 2006 and 2007. In his first season, Smith worked with former GSU Head Coach Chad Callihan, assisting with daily practices. While at ASU, he was the men’s club volleyball captain and president all four years and earned all-conference accolades at outside hitter three times. While attending Herndon High School, Smith was a four-year varsity wrestling lettermen and district champion. Unable to compete in volleyball in high school because there was no boys’ prep volleyball in Northern Virginia, Smith managed the varsity girls’ team for three years. He played Junior Olympic volleyball for one season with Metro Virginia 18’s. Scott lives in Cheektowaga, NY with his wife Joan, who was an all-conference setter at Mount Olive College, an NCAA Division II program in Conference Carolinas.

MCLAMB

ASSISTANT COACH • FOURTH SEASON • RADFORD ‘10 Adam McLamb begins his fourth year at UB after coming to the Bulls from UT-Chattanooga where he was an assistant coach during the 2014 season. McLamb worked mainly with Chattanoogas’ pin hitters and instruct the passing game while aiding in speeding up the team’s tempo. This past season, McLamb helped guide the Bulls to their best conference season in school history as the Bulls went 8-8 in MAC play, finishing as the #5 seed in the confernece tournament, its highest finish in league play. Before moving to the collegiate level, McLamb coached juniors for the Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club of Virginia Beach, Va. As a student-athlete, Adam played club volleyball at both New Hampshire and his alma mater - Radford. As a setter, his UNH team claimed the NCVF Division 1-AA National Championship. McLamb was named a First Team All-Tournament performer. ADAM MCLAMB

#18 WERNETTE 2017: Played in 93 sets, finishing second on the team with 63.0 blocks…also had 173 kills and 49 digs…finished with a season high of 13 kills twice, first against Seton Hall (9/1) and then again against Toledo (11/4)…added 12 kills against Ohio (10/28) and 11 against Kent State (10/27)… finished with eight kills and eight blocks against Bowling Green (11/11)…had three service aces against Appalachian State (9/16). 2016: Played in 101 sets, finishing third on the team with 226 kills and second on the squad with a .318 hitting percentage…named to the Academic All-MAC Team… had 20 kills against Central Michigan (10/21) and added 16 kills and just two errors, while hitting .538 against Akron (11/3)…added 11 kills and one error at Western Michigan (10/15), and added 11 kills at Duquesne (9/3), Bucknell (9/17), and Akron (9/29)…led UB in blocks with 96.0…had 7.0 blocks against Bucknell (9/17) and Akron (9/29)…was third on the team in service aces with 14, including three against Western Michigan (10/15) and Kent State (10/29). 2015: Played in 80 sets during her freshman season and finished with 139 kills and 54 total blocks...had a careerhigh 16 kills and just one error as she hit .625 against Northern Illinois (10/17)...recorded 12 kills and and just one error against Toledo (9/26) and had 10 kills at Bowling Green (10/3)...recorded a season-high six blocks twice, first againt Toledo (9/26) and again at Akron (10/29)...hit over .300 seven times during the year.

#2 BICKELHAUPT 2017: Competed in all 106 sets for the Bulls as the team’s starting libero…led UB in digs with 413 and service aces with 43…recorded doubles figures in digs in all, but three matches, including a career-high 22 digs twice against Bowling Green, first on the road (10/6) and then at home (11/11)…added 19 digs against Seton Hall (9/1) and Eastern Michigan (10/21)…recorded a season-high five service aces at Central Michigan (10/20) and had four aces in a 3-2 win at Georgetown (9/9) and at Eastern Michigan (10/21). Previous School: Played at Hillsborough Community College where she saw time both at outside hitter and libero...named NJCAA second-team All-Conference and NJCAA Region 8/FCAA Defensive Player of the Week... helped her team to a national ranking of 12 in final NJCAA National poll. #7 WATSON 2017: Played in all 106 sets as a defensive specialist for the Bulls…finished with 216 digs and nine service aces…had 19 digs in UB’s 3-2 win over Rutgers (9/2) and added 15 digs at Kent State (10/27), including diving into the scorer’s table in a play that made ESPN’s Top 10 Plays and the NCAA’s Top Plays…had 13 digs against Appalachian State (9/16) and finished with 12 digs three other times…opened the season with a pair of three-service ace performances against Hampton (8/25) and Canisius (8/25). 2016: Played in all 110 sets during her freshman season, leading the Bulls in digs with 397…recorded double figures in kills in 23 of the 29 matches…had a career-high 37 digs against St. Francis (9/3), the most in a match by a UB freshman since 2009…had 22 digs at Georgia Southern (9/9) and 21 digs in a win at Bucknell (9/17)…finished with double figures in digs in seven of the final nine matches… was also second on the team in assists, including a careerhigh seven against St. Francis (9/3). 2017: Played in 82 sets during the season, finishing with 83 kills and 56.0 total blocks, which was third on the team… had a career-best 11 kills, while recording no errors in a five-set match against Seton Hall (9/1)…added seven kills in wins over Coppin State (9/8) and Georgetown (9/9)…had six kills on four other occasions…finished with a seasonhigh six total blocks, including five assists against Bowling Green (11/11)…had five blocks against Western Michigan (10/14) and added four total blocks six other times. Previous School: Played in 24 matches as a freshmen at St. Peter’s College in New Jersey...she finished fourth on the team in kills and second on the team in blocks...had a career high nine kills vs. NJIT and finished with four total blocks five different times.
