there’s a chill in the air Can you believe it is already March of 2015?! We’re not sure where the year is going but we do know that 2015 is shaping up to be a big year for Brisbane weddings! Please do not publish articles and images without prior written permission. ADVERTISE For advertising opportunities within the magazine or on our website or blog, please contact madison@brisbaneweddingweekly.com.au. We're always looking for beautiful, inspiring real weddings, editorials and DIY projects to share with our readers. If you would like to see your work in Brisbane Wedding Weekly, please email hello@brisbaneweddingweekly.com.au.

With that in mind, we asked wedding stylist Hannah from Bespoke Occasions to shed some light on what trends we will be seeing this year. In a nutshell... Luxe, elegant and bold are Hannah’s three keywords. Head to page 10 to see what else is trending this year in the world of weddings! We are also very excited to have exclusive access to Miss, we mean, Mrs World Queensland Hayley Picoto’s beautiful destination wedding. Where in Queensland does this crowned beauty choose to have her wedding? Find out on page 15. Our beautiful cover this edition was captured by Juddric Photography in a styled shoot where we wanted to show off texture and detail by shooting everything in black and white. I am always a sucker for a gorgeous black and white bridal portrait as your eye is drawn to the intricate details and not distracted by the colours in the shot. See more of the ‘textual elegance’ shoot from page 20. For those getting married soon, enjoy the warmer weather while it lasts, and we look forward to see your submissions soon!

The best advice I got was to enjoy time together on the day, and it couldn’t be more true. The day flies by and is over before you know it, so make sure you treasure it together. Mike and I planned our whole day around this, having our reception end at 3pm we got to spend the whole evening together just the two of us.

Everything goes so quickly, try to remember the way you felt at any given moment and remember the real reason you are doing this. Less is more and there will never be quite enough time. At the end of it all, it is out of your hands what happens and that is okay. Even the biggest disaster would be something to look back on and cherish together.

Honour your guests and husband!! This is the only day in your life where all the people you love will be in one room, so honour them!! Best services we used were: • “Moments in Vintage” they are the most amazing furniture hire company and made our day perfect • “Goliath Productions” for videography - They are incredible! It is worth investing money into your photography/ videography as this helps you take more away from your day. • Having “Lost in Wishful Thinking” do our photography was the best thing we ever did for our wedding day. Invest in a (good) videographer. Certain elements of the wedding cannot be captured as beautifully in photo as they can in film. This is something you will watch over and over again and is such a beautiful keepsake of the day.

Enjoy the day, it goes so quickly. My other advice is there will be hiccups, we certainly had them but you have to look at the big picture, will anyone notice and most of the time they won't so no need stressing about it. Have a glass of champagne and just enjoy.

The day goes so fast. Make sure you stop at different moments throughout the day and take the time to take everything in. I think pausing before you walk down the aisle and taking a moment with your Dad or the person who is with you is important. It helps you to get rid of those last minute nerves and calm yourself before you walk in.

TOP TRENDS 2015

While the most beautiful wedding is always one that represents the bride and groom’s uniqueness, it certainly is fun to incorporate a few modern day trends into the biggest day of your life! 2015 sees the return of modern and romantic wedding styling, and you can expect classic colour palettes with rich textural elements, pops of colour or metallic accents. Elegance and sleek glamour is back on the table with white and ivory framing bolder colours and green foliage aplenty. Whilst rustic and vintage styles will remain popular, they’ll be taking a more sophisticated turn - think chandeliers and champagne towers in place of exposed bulbs and mason jars.

Owner and Events Director, Hannah Boler is a born organiser with a creative flair and fun approach towards event planning. A desire to bring people together and a passion for celebrating occasions drive all that she does and from that, Bespoke Occasions was launched in 2012. Hannah’s uncompromising eye for detail and quality coupled with her ability to capture a vision and turn it into a reality make her a ‘must have’ for your next event. In between events Hannah can be found walking her beloved staffy, training at the gym, sampling the latest foodie delights around town or catching up with friends. Her caffeine of choice is a skinny piccolo or once the sun goes down a vodka, lime + soda. Cheers! 10

Blushing Bride Love Found True

When Freddy Met Lilly

And the Bride wore Brides are embracing plenty of runway trends including off the shoulder gowns and higher necklines. My personal favourite is detachable full length skirts over shorter dresses. It’s a match made in heaven if you’re looking for a formal gown for the nuptials that allows for a swift outfit change for a glamorous reception to show off some killer heels.

Two pieces are better than one Separates are currently trending hotter than Gosling however I think we’ll see this translated into real weddings mostly in Bridesmaids dresses. Perfectly tailored tops with flowing skirts for the ladies will be in style.

Blush quite simply could do no wrong in 2014; it was a stylist’s best friend and cropped up in everything from florals, linen, stationery and especially in fashion. This year there’s a switch to slightly bolder tones of blue and green (think sea foam!) as well as softer metallic Champagnes and greys. Veils are also tipped to make a big comeback in a nod to timeless elegance.

Where’s the party at? Brisbane couples are choosing to stay closer to home and opting for unique urban venues as their preferred wedding locations. This includes everything from fine dining restaurants, lane way bars and breweries to industrial warehouses and inner city galleries tucked behind unlikely façades. Couples are placing increased importance on their venue as a way to represent their unique styles and tastes. Personalised and bespoke experiences are key this year. Not sure where to start? A great Wedding Planner or Stylist will have recommendations for hidden gem venues you may not even know exist. They’ll also have the inside scoop on what, and who, is hot, and match your vision with a dream team of suppliers. Don’t be afraid to seek professional advice and dare to be different, that way you’re guaranteed your wedding will

Let the feast begin The family style of dining will continue as a favourite with even more focus being placed on locally sourced produce. Couples are becoming more focussed around culinary experiences being included in their day, and are looking for suppliers and venues that can offer seasonal and sustainable menus. Lunchtime weddings will be increasing in popularity. Expect to see perfectly styled, long leisurely lunches, following midmorning ceremonies appearing more and more in magazines and blogs.

Cheers 2014 was the year of food stations, roving canapÊs and smaller bites. 2015 will see this fun and interactive trend carry over to beverages hooray! Flights of local craft beers and ciders, wine tasting bars, sangria stations and smartly dressed bartenders whipping up tantalising tipples are all on the menu. It’s all part of the return to glamour and splashing your personal style on this special day. Seven Silver Swans

Beautiful blooms The use of locally sourced, seasonal flowers will continue in full force with larger bouquets, lush floral arrangements and custom design installations setting a stunning scene for 2015 weddings. Blooms and foliage will feature heavily in styling and greenery will be even more popular. There’ll be an abundance of native and botanical accents as well as edible blooms and herbs making the cut.

Nicole Barralet Photography

All that shimmers Metallic will be bringing the sparkle this year with all eyes on copper and bronze over the gold tones of 2014. They’ll be popping up in everything from stationery, shoes, cakes and furnishings and adding richness to the softer colour palettes that are predicted. Hot tip: Incorporate splashes of unpolished metals in your styling through the use of vessels, jugs, vases and drink ware and you’ll be right on trend!

Last year was a huge year for one engaged ‘Miss’. The proposal

It was a Tuesday evening and I was racing home from work because Michael was adamant that we needed to take our beloved pup for a walk and that he had found this awesome spot near the river, five minutes from home. I wasn’t that keen but felt that I needed to give him more of my time. Boy was I glad that particular evening that I didn’t resist and make a fuss! Michael sat me down on a log at sunset near the river with no-one else around except our dog (who is obsessed with swimming). Then he promptly stood back up, knelt down on one knee and opened up a jewellery box containing the prettiest ring I have ever seen. All I could think was “that’s my one, it’s mine and he’s mine”. Then he asked me to marry him and of course the tears came next. Our dog was now half way down the river swimming in circles because he refuses to get out of the water so I sent Michael off to save him while I had a moment to myself. Wow, the most perfect ring and probably the only material item I will ever love as much as I do. It’s ridiculous how many ring photos I have since posted on social media!

On wedding planning

It’s hectic but that’s not the thing I remember about it. I remember it being a wonderful experience that let me become even closer to my beautiful friends and bridesmaids. I honestly just remember them being so super doper amazing that all the planning was a dream. In reality, there were issues but that all fades away after the day. I tried very hard to ‘ignore’ problems that were created and dramatized by others and it worked! They just went away with time! 18

The big day

My favourite part on the day was a moment my new husband and I spent with just our bridal party right after the ceremony. We had some last minute changes to our reception due to windy weather meaning I had to have it inside rather than out in the Garden at Osteria. It was a hard moment as I hadn’t thought it would be affected because it wasn’t raining, just super windy. And I was only told this as the ceremony concluded. So we stopped to have something to eat so I could ‘get happy again’ before our bridal photoshoot and in those minutes we could be husband and wife for the first time with our incredible closest friends around us enjoying the moment. It was my favourite time of our wedding day.

Something Different

I put some significant thought into bonbonniere gifts for our guests and Michael and I decided unanimously that we wanted to donate to a charity that helped rescue dogs with nowhere else to go - on behalf of our fur kid Chevy. I am now working with that same charity (Fresh Start Rescue) to encourage more people to ‘adopt don’t shop’ when they’re looking for a new best friend.

The proposal Grant flew me to Sydney for a surprise weekend; we spent the weekend at the Westin in a suite, which was beautiful. On Saturday morning we caught the ferry to Watson’s Bay and went for a hike up to the light house. On the way back down, we stopped at a little cove on the beach where he got down on one knee and proposed. It was really perfect and I couldn’t have asked for more, it was beautiful. The ring he proposed with also belonged to his Grandmother so it was a little extra special.

The big day Try to stay calm! I was so nervous the whole day because there is so much emotion going around. Try to take time for yourself and take every moment as it comes, good or bad. At the reception remember to enjoy yourself, it’s physically impossible to sit down and talk to each and everyone of your guests especially if you have a big wedding. In your speech, if you make one – just remember to thank everyone for coming. Have a glass of champagne, relish in the fact that you just got married to your best friend, sit back, relax and just enjoy the evening.

The proposal James flew me to Venice for my 30th birthday. We had a beautiful dinner at a Quadri Restaurant in St Marks Square, followed by a gondola ride. The temperature was about 0 degrees and I was less than pleased to be out in the elements. Then when the bells started chiming at midnight he held my hand, dropped down to one knee and asked if I would be his wife. It was perfect.
