lighter in the inner corners of your eyes for added drama and sparkle. “Some trends I have noticed are a natural face and ‘popping’ eyes,” says Pitts. “I think this is a timeless look for weddings. Brides don’t want to look like they are wearing too much makeup; they want to look like themselves—but they want their eyes to pop!” Pitts recommends creating a subtle, smoky eye using neutral colors; full, naturallooking false lashes; and a nude lip to top off the look.

“I’m also loving highlighters!” says Pitts. “They aren’t new but I love them. They add a nice glow to your face that makes you stand out. For a cream highlighter I like ‘Watts Up’ by Benefit (benefitcosmetics.com), and for powders I am currently using ‘Tiki’ from Hard Candy (hardcandy.com) and ‘Light Glow’ from Ruby Kisses (rubykissescosmetics.com).”

Ageless Beauty Some brides may find the idea of airbrushing unnecessary, but Cohen makes an excellent

point about this method of makeup application: “It’s like pantyhose for your face,” she says. “It gently covers and conceals imperfections while still allowing your skin to shine through! It gives you that ‘no makeup’ look—just great skin that lasts and lasts!” According to Pitts, preparation and forethought are key to building the perfect wedding-day look: “Make sure you get a trial run with your makeup artist so that you know what to expect,” she says. She also advises brides with a typically minimalist makeup routine to be careful when trying a dramatic look: “If you are not used to wearing makeup don’t request anything too dramatic like a smoky eye—chances are you won’t like it.” Cohen recommends that when choosing your makeup artist you should look for someone who specializes in photographic makeup. Not only will the right professional know how to create a look that will show up beautifully on film, but you can also avoid wearing a look that’s too trendy. You shouldn’t be able to tell what year you got married in just by looking at your makeup. Jennafyr Giuffrida is a freelance writer and a stylist at Nordstrom. She writes from Attleboro, MA.
