Breathe Performance Programme Focusing on Hospital Life: Arts & Health
rch resea h t l ea arts h
The potency between arts and the healthcare setting is at the heart of everything we do. This season we host a unique variety of performers, not only to entertain but to touch your senses and to create experiences that positively impact on the hospital environment and your well-being.
Listening to Life: Partnering with Science Gallery London Science Gallery London are currently hosting a season (August – October) called Frequencies — Tune into Life, based on the patterns and cycles in our lives and capturing the sounds that come from them. In October we present two intriguing pieces from this partnership: In the first, composer and installation artist Nick J Jones will create a soundscape based on the rhythms in the daily working lives of the hospital porters. In the second, tap dancer and juggler Stewart Pemberton will present a performance, developed with patients from the Evelina Hospital, around the rhythms and sounds of life experienced in and around the children’s hospital.
Our Life: Mental and personal health In October we also showcase some insightful, poignant and often comic pieces taken from the lives of the performers that explore how their mental health experiences have shaped their work. In November we highlight pulmonary lung disease with a concert dedicated to the use of the breath, and in December we welcome musicians drawn from the Inner Vision Orchestra — a collective of musicians who are all blind or partially sighted. Tuning into yourself and listening is a strength we hope to share with you throughout this special season.
“Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity is committed to developing and funding innovative arts and health programmes in Lambeth and Southwark and is delighted to support Breathe’s exciting new season of performing arts in the hospitals for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.”
