Hey, 9th-12th graders! Do you love all things science? Interested in what it takes to make vaccines and other modern biologic drugs? Come learn about Biomanufacturing in a FREE camp! Through this camp, students will learn the techniques involved in making some of our most complex and useful drugs. This camp is being offered free of charge as part of a Commonwealth of Virginia special appropriation to BRCC and JMU to help build a talent pipeline for Merck and other Shenandoah Valley biotechnology manufacturers. Youth camps will be offered to raise awareness of the Biotechnology certificates and degrees, to help increase enrollments at these higher ed institutions.

As part of the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia has awarded BRCC grant funding to implement the Mike Rowe Works (MRW) Work Ethic Certification curriculum, a post-secondary program that examines the importance of work ethic, personal responsibility and a positive attitude. Ready to take-off into an exciting career? BRCC’s commercial pilot program provides hands-on pilot training to ensure you’re up and flying right away with the right stuff. Our knowledgeable instructors focus on providing practical learning with in-flight training that will prepare you for a successful aviation career. BRCC partners with Blue Ridge Aviation to offer the flight training components of this program; students are required to pay additional fees directly to them as the contracted flight school. Wheel throwing for beginning and intermediate students: meet new friends and learn a new skill, or build on pottery experience gained from previous classes. Centering, trimming, surface decoration and glazing are all covered; as well as one handbuilt project. Find your personal style, experiment, create. In this new class students will learn various techniques including: connecting thrown pots to make a bigger vessel, altering thrown pots to create new shapes, using molds to create large hand-built forms, and general hand building techniques for creating functional and decorative pieces.
