Welcome...

to the Spring 2013 issue of Inside Out.

We are pleased to say a good-bye to the Winter and are busy planning ahead for the Spring and Summer. To start it off, we have organised a Spring Skills Fair on 14th March. If you’re lacking motivation for this year’s Spring and Easter festivities, don’t miss the opportunity to come to our event and be inspired by a wide range of ideas and activities we’ll be showcasing. In addition, we’ve developed a variety of recreational short courses to give you an opportunity to engage with your local college in a fun and informal way. From wine tasting sessions, through photography skills to singing and sewing, we hope to encourage you to improve or develop a hobby, meet new people and have fun along the way. Why not buy one of these courses for your friend or a family member? Even more, come along together and double the fun factor. We’re always looking for your views. Please email editor@bournville.ac.uk if you have any feedback you want to share with us.

2013 - Centenary Year 2013 is the year when Bournville College is celebrating its centenary anniversary – 100 years since we were set up. First established by Sir George Cadbury in 1913 (then known as Bournville Day Continuation School), the function of the school was to provide young people with a sound general education which initially included English, Maths and physical education.

general English, Maths and PE to a wide variety of qualifications and training courses for school leavers, adults, organisations and international students. Our new campus also offers fantastic facilities open to general public, including hair and beauty salons, restaurant, gym, conference and events centre and an MOT garage. Turn to back page to find out more.

Over the hundred years, we have seen a lot of changes, exciting developments and shaped the future of many individuals. In terms of our campus, we saw our first relocation in 1973 from the former building on Bournville Green to a site on Bristol Road South in Northfield. Then in 2011, we relocated once again to a purpose built £66 million state-of-the-art campus in Longbridge.

If you would like to celebrate with us, why not attend our Community Open Day on Saturday 15th June, 10am - 2pm? Visit bournville.ac.uk to find out more. Alternatively, if you’re a former student of Bournville College and would like to share your memories of the College with us, why not submit them to our digital time capsule? Visit http://bit.ly/XptCWx to view it or email editor@bournville.ac.uk with your memories.

Our offer of courses has expanded greatly too - from
