Globalizzazione. Un termine molto usato in campo politico e sociale, ma che fino a qualche tempo fa nessuno avrebbe mai creduto si potesse adattare al magico mondo del wedding. E invece, come dimostriamo nelle nostre pagine, il concetto si addice perfettamente anche al rito del matrimonio. Su diversi fronti. Prima di tutto il luogo della cerimonia. Se una volta le nozze si celebravano rigorosamente nella parrocchia della sposa, o, in caso di rito civile, nelle sale del Comune, per poi partire alla volta di spiagge tropicali, oggi il viaggio inizia prima. Sono tante le coppie che decidono di convolare a nozze all’estero. Cavalcando questa nuova tendenza molte strutture si stanno attrezzando per poter celebrare matrimoni validi legalmente anche nei Paesi di origine degli sposi. Si tratta soprattutto di hotel e resort in località di mare di tutto il mondo, tra le più gettonate per la luna di miele, che così vede un prequel in cui vengono coinvolti anche genitori, parenti e amici. La diffusione di questo nuovo trend nuziale ci è confermata dall’esperto che abbiamo intervistato, il quale, a sua volta, per dare il buon esempio si è sposato all’estero per 17 volte (tranquilli, con la stessa moglie!). Paradossalmente quest’usanza forse è favorita anche dalla crisi economica: infatti, a conti fatti, costa meno organizzare una cerimonia all’estero con un numero limitato di invitati e prezzi più bassi rispetto all’Italia, piuttosto che un classico matrimonio con centinaia di ospiti a cui aggiungere comunque il viaggio di nozze. Ma non sono soltanto gli italiani che vanno all’estero: molte località del Bel Paese sono richiestissime da stranieri (in questo caso con budget elevato), come dimostriamo anche nel nostro reportage di un matrimonio in Toscana di un famoso attore russo. La globalizzazione naturalmente coinvolge anche il settore abbigliamento: se tanti marchi esteri sono disponibili nei negozi italiani, molti produttori italiani vestono spose straniere che vengono apposta nella penisola per scegliere l’abito, oppure invitano direttamente a casa propria i nostri designer. Accade spesso, per esempio, con le principesse arabe innamorate dell’Italian style. Il futuro della moda nuziale risiede sicuramente nella capacità di guardare al mondo intero come proprio mercato di riferimento. Con l’aiuto di riviste internazionali che siano presenti nelle edicole delle principali nazioni e anche, ovviamente, del web e dei social media che ormai sono diventati imprescindibili.

Globalisation. A term widely used in the political and social field, but that no one would have believed could apply to the magical world of marriage, until recently. Instead, as you can see by reading these pages, the concept suits the ritual of marriage perfectly. On several fronts. First, the location of the ceremony. If in the past a wedding had to be celebrated at the bride’s parish church or, if a civil wedding, at the local town hall after which the newlyweds set off for a tropical beach, today the journey starts earlier. Many couples choose to tie the knot abroad. On the wave of this new trend, many structures are gearing up so they can celebrate marriages that are legally valid even in the countries of origin of the newlyweds. These are mainly seaside hotels and resorts all around the world, among the most popular for a honeymoon, and this includes a prequel involving parents, relatives and friends. That this new wedding trend is the choice of more and more couples is confirmed by the expert we interviewed and who has tied the knot as many as 17 times abroad just to give a good example (don’t worry, always to the same wife!). Paradoxically, this custom is maybe favoured by the economic crisis: in fact, if we think about it, it costs less to organise a ceremony abroad with a limited number of guests and lower prices than in Italy, rather than a classic wedding with hundreds of guests and then the costs for a honeymoon to add to the total as well. But it is not just Italians who go abroad: many locations here are in great demand by foreigners (in this case with a large budget), as we also show you in our reportage on a famous Russian actor’s wedding in Tuscany. Naturally, globalisation also involves the clothing sector: if so many foreign brands are available in Italian stores, many Italian manufacturers are creating for foreign brides who come here especially to choose their dress, or they even invite our designers directly to their homes. This is the case of, for example, Arab princesses in love with Italian style. Surely, the future of bridal fashion lies in the ability to look onto the whole world as its reference market. With the help of international magazines that are available at newsagent’s in the main countries and then, of course, internet and social media that are now essential.

Due ironiche scrittrici insegnano come prendere l’amore con filosofia e allegria Two ironic writers teach how to take love with philosophy and joy Un po’ saggio un po’ romanzo, il volume edito da Sonzogno “Ragioni e sentimenti. L’amore preso con filosofia” di Ilaria Gaspari, giornalista e scrittrice laureata in filosofia, affronta il tema dell’innamoramento e amore con un taglio particolare. Filosofia trascorre una vacanza ai Caraibi insieme a Mina, una libraia che sta vivendo una travagliata vicenda sentimentale, e le due amiche discorrendo tra di loro cercano di rispondere a cinque, interessantissime domande: “Ci si può innamorare dell’amore?”, “Esistono amori fotogenici?”, “Ci si può fidare dei propri desideri?”, “Come si capisce di essere innamorati?”, “La fedeltà è davvero così importante?”. Per risolvere i quesiti accorrono in aiuto delle due protagoniste filosofi e romanzieri di ogni epoca e, tra un acquazzone tropicale e l’altro, si giunge alla conclusione che molti mali d’amore potrebbero essere evitati, se non ci si affidasse ad aspettative fuorvianti e non si usassero troppo spesso le parole sbagliate.
In between an essay and a novel, the volume published by Sonzogno “Ragioni e sentimenti. L’amore preso con filosofia” (Sense and sensibilities. Love taken with philosophy) by Ilaria Gaspari, journalist and writer graduated in philosophy, deals with the theme of falling in love and being in love in a rather unusual way. Filosofia spends a holiday in the Caribbean with Mina, a bookseller who is going through a troubled love affair, and the two friends chat trying to answer five interesting questions: “Can we fall in love with love?”, “Do photogenic loves exist?”, “Can you trust your desires?”, “How do you understand that you are in love?”, “Is loyalty really that important?” To solve the questions, philosophers and novelists from every era come to the aid of the two protagonists and, between one tropical downpour and another, they reach the conclusion that a great share of lovesickness could be avoided if we do not rely on misleading expectations and do not use the wrong words too often.
Una storia tenera e divertente quella narrata da Charlotte Butterfield ne “Il matrimonio delle mie migliori amiche”, edito da Newton Compton. La protagonista Eve adora i matrimoni e quindi è felicissima che ben tre sue amiche e suo fratello stiano per sposarsi. Però il suo entusiasmo incomincia a calare quando, in quanto appassionata esperta dell’argomento, viene sommersa da richieste impegnative quali trovare fenicotteri giganti da giardino e curare torme di cani durante le varie lune di miele in programma. Ma il suo buon umore viene del tutto disintegrato quando scopre che sarà costretta a rivedere, in quanto invitato alle nozze, il suo ex, l’uomo con il quale appunto avrebbe voluto “coronare il suo sogno d’amore”. L’unica sua valvola di sfogo è una rubrica dedicata al giorno del sì di cui è curatrice che le permette di prendersi delle piccole soddisfazioni nei confronti delle felici coppie, sperando di non essere “scoperta”.
A tender and funny story told by Charlotte Butterfield in “A Beautiful day for a Wedding”, translated in Italian with the title “Il matrimonio delle mie migliori amiche” and published by Newton Compton. The protagonist Eve loves weddings, so she is delighted that three of her friends and her brother are about to tie the knot. But her enthusiasm wanes when, because she is a passionate expert on the topic, she is submerged by demanding requests such as finding giant flamingos for the garden and dog-sitting during the various honeymoons. Her good mood completely disintegrates when she discovers that she will be forced to see her ex-boyfriend who is invited to one of the weddings, the man she had hoped to “fulfil her love dream” with. The only release is to write her column dedicated to the wedding day that allows her some satisfaction towards the happy couples with her bitter comments, hoping they never find out.

Oggi i matrimoni sono in calo e le nozze non sono più il sogno delle ragazze. Come mai invece le coppie gay desiderano sposarsi? Il matrimonio ha un costo e quindi penso che tante coppie vadano a vivere insieme senza sposarsi per un fattore economico. È difficile per due giovani decidere di affrontare le spese relative alle nozze. Invece, nel caso di coppie formate da due uomini o due donne, che magari convivono da diversi anni, ora che finalmente sono state introdotte anche in Italia le unioni civili in tanti desiderano approfittare di questa possibilità.
Today marriages are dropping, and weddings are no longer a girl’s dream. How come gay couples want to get married instead? A marriage has a cost and I reckon that many couples choose to live together without getting married because of this economic factor. It is difficult for two young people to decide to get married and face the related expenses. Instead, for couples made up of two men or two women and that probably had been living together for several years, now that civil unions have finally been introduced in Italy too, this is a possibility to take advantage of.
Nel vostro caso, è stata Imma a fare la proposta di matrimonio… Sì, è stato molto divertente: in occasione di una conferenza stampa al Gay Village Imma doveva ringraziare tutti i personaggi dello spettacolo che avevano partecipato e non ha citato me. Allora le è stato fatto notare e lei ha detto: “Ma Eva ormai è come mia moglie e quindi è sottinteso che la ringrazio”. Allora l’ho guardata e ho pensato “ormai l’hai detto e lo facciamo”. È da nove anni che stiamo insieme e in effetti ne avevamo parlato più di una volta: però Imma aveva un po’ paura. Adesso è stato il momento giusto, anche perché essendo Imma un’attivista del movimento LGBT il nostro matrimonio ha avuto una valenza anche politica.
In your case, it was Imma who proposed... Yes, it was a lot of fun: during a press conference at the Gay Village, Imma had to thank all those who had participated in the show and didn’t mention me. Then someone pointed this out to her and she said: “But Eva is now like a wife, therefore it is obvious that I thank her”. So, I looked at her and thought “now that you have said it we are going to do it”. We have been together for nine years and indeed we had talked about it more than once: but Imma was a bit scared. Now was the right time, even because as Imma is an activist of the LGBT movement, our marriage would also have had a political importance.

Does a perfect wedding exist? Surely it was the one celebrated between the actor Eugeniy Pronin and Christina Arustamova last May. The two beautiful spouses arrived from Russia to celebrate their union surrounded by the great beauty of Italy. Thanks to the organisation by PALAZZOEVENTI, a wedding planning agency specialised in organising prestigious weddings,
they chose Tuscany with its hills covered with vineyards and olive trees and, of course, the incomparable Italian cuisine, in this case represented by the starred chef Enrico Bartolini. L’Andana was the setting of the event, the resort in Castiglione della Pescaia listed among the Leading Hotels of the World. Here everything was studied in detail, offering friends and relatives a
wonderful memory of the wedding and, above all, what will be remembered as the best day of their lives for the bride and groom. The ceremony was celebrated near an ancient church and the couple exchanged rings under a flowery arch with the lush countryside in the background crossed by an endless tree-lined avenue, symbol of a long and happy life together. Mare e leggende. Quale migliore ambientazione per un matrimonio letteralmente da favola? Il Mediterraneo è il cuore antico della storia europea e sulle sue rive si sono sviluppate civiltà affascinanti e misteriose, come quella fenicia che ha avuto la sua massima espressione nella mitica città di Cartagine. Anche se della nemica irriducibile dell’Impero Romano sono rimaste soltanto rovine, camminare per le sue antiche strade esercita comunque un’attrazione irre-
sistibile. E a pochi passi dal sito archeologico sorge un’altra perla di quella che oggi è la Tunisia: Sidi Bou Said. Un paesino bianco e blu che sembra disegnato da un pittore: e in effetti la cittadina fondata nel Medioevo è divenuta celebre nell’Ottocento in quanto meta di artisti quali il pittore svizzero Paul Klee. The Mediterranean is the ancient heart of European history and fascinating and mysterious civilisations developed on its shores, like the Phoenicians with the maximum expression in the mythical city of Carthage. Even if only ruins remain of the irreducible enemy of the Roman Empire, walking along its ancient streets is still irresistibly charming. And another pearl of what is now Tunisia, Sidi Bou Said, is at a walking distance from the
archaeological site. A small white and blue village that seems depicted by a painter: and, in fact, the town founded in the Middle Ages became famous in the nineteenth century as a destination for artists like the Swiss painter Paul Klee. Come e quando è nata The Sweet Society Co.? Sin da quando ero bambina adoravo cucinare. Ricordo la prima volta che mi è stato permesso di cucinare da sola senza l’aiuto di mia mamma, avevo 12 anni e per sbaglio ho utilizzato il sale al posto dello zucchero. Il mio povero zio ha mangiato l’intero cupcake per farmi felice, perché ho pianto tanto ed ero molto imbarazzata. Ma sono sempre stata molto testarda, perciò provando e riprovando nel tempo sono migliorata sempre di più. Vent’anni più tardi, dopo un periodo in cui ho fatto una pausa con la cucina per via dei vari impegni, sono tornata ai fornelli e i miei amici hanno iniziato ad ordinare le mie torte homemade. Ho esaminato tutto ciò che fosse necessario per farla diventare un’attività, un business, e dopo circa un paio di anni, eccomi qui con The Sweet Society Co.!
How and when was The Sweet Society Co. born? Ever since I was a kid, I loved cooking! I remember the first time I was allowed to bake by myself with no help from my mother: I was 12 years old and I accidentally used salt instead of sugar! My poor uncle ate his entire cupcake to make me feel better, I cried and was so embarrassed, but I am also very stubborn so I kept trying and over the years got a lot better! Fast forward to 20 years later, and a little lost time in the kitchen due to just life in general, I started baking again, and friends started asking me to bake them cakes for money! I looked into what was needed to become a legitimate business and nearly a couple of years later here I am!
Come è nata l’idea del nome? Inizialmente ero solita preparare cupcake, ma dato che la mia passione riguardava la realizzazione di dolci in generale, ho pensato che fosse limitativo dare un nome così specifico alla mia attività. Piuttosto volevo optare per un nome dedicato a una sorta di “comunità dei golosi”. Quindi qualcosa che si rivolgesse a veri ed esclusivi intenditori e appassionati dei dolci, una Sweet Society Co., mi è venuto in mente questo nome, l’ho adorato ed è stato il prescelto.
And the name? How did you get the idea? I started off with making cupcakes but as I loved making desserts in general, I didn’t want a name that restricted me to just that! I also wanted to create something for the community of sweet tooths. So having something that catered for an exclusive group of sweet lovers, the Sweet Society Co. just came to mind and I loved it!

The wedding day is a fundamental, important step for everyone, and it will stay in our memory forever. Choosing the make-up is one of the decisive phases of the preparation for the great event and should be based not only on the face’s features and on the style of the dress, but also on the trends and fashion of the time. Make-up changes, it evolves and follows the shooting media technology (for photos and videos) that turn those moments into permanent documents lasting over time. Speaking of the evolution in cosmetics, contouring, strobing, glow, now used (even in a bad way) and abused, have been spoken about for a long time and have shown their limits.
Il giorno del si è per tutte un passo fondamentale, importante, un ricordo per sempre. La scelta del trucco è una delle fasi determinanti della preparazione al grande evento e deve basarsi non soltanto sui lineamenti del volto e lo stile dell’abito, ma anche sulle tendenze e la moda del periodo storico. Il make-up cambia, si evolve e segue anche la tecnologia dei mezzi di ripresa (per foto e video) che renderanno quei momenti documenti permanenti nel tempo. A proposito di evoluzione nella cosmesi, è già da troppo tempo che si parla di contouring, strobing, glow, ormai usati (anche in malo modo) e abusati, tanto da aver mostrato i loro limiti.
