The Legend of Fire

Onceupon a time, in Iraraley therelived two brothers. Every day, they went fishing for food. On their way to thebeach, therewas a very, very deep cave, called Ji-KaraReman.
Onemorning, they went fishing asusual. When they passed by theJi-KaraReman, they heard something strange. Chop! Chop! Chop! They walked up to thecaveand looked into it—
They sawtheir anitos, their ancestors. Someanitoswerechopping thewoods, otherswerepulling sometaros. Beside them, something red and warm kept crackling.
“WOW!” Thebrotherswereso amazed. Seeing thetwo brothers, theanitos stopped their work. “What isthis?” asked thebrothers, pointing at thecrackling, hot item on theground. “Thisissomething magical. It iscalled “apoy”.” An anito answered, “Weuseit for cooking. And it keepsuswarm in thewinter.”
“WOW!” Thebrotherswereso amazed. Seeing thetwo brothers, theanitos stopped their work. “What isthis?” asked thebrothers, pointing at thecrackling, hot item on theground. “Thisissomething magical. It iscalled “apoy”.” An anito answered, “Weuseit for cooking. And it keepsuswarm in thewinter.”
“Whereisit?” thebrothers wereso anxious. They went back to theanitos for help.
“Easy.” Theanitossaid, “When apoy getssmaller and smaller, just passit on to another pieceof wood. Theapoy will growbigger again on thenew wood.” “Oh, wegot it!” Thebrotherssaid, “Thank you so much!” They followed theanitos’ words, and managed to bring theapoy home.
After thebrothersgot home, they started to useapoy to cook food. The mealsbecamemoredelicious. Their family enjoyed thewonderful food and also their story in thecave. From then on, peoplein Lanyu have used fireto cook their food. They have also used fireto keep themselves warm in winters.
