Ancient Egypt Pharaohs by Zoel and Pilar M 4th A 2014

The most powerful person in ancient Egypt was the pharaoh. The pharaoh was the political and religious leader of the Egyptian people, holding the titles: 'Lord of the Two Lands' and 'High Priest of Every Temple'.

As 'Lord of the Two Lands' the pharaoh was the ruler of Upper and Lower Egypt. He owned all on the land, made laws, collected taxes, and defended Egypt against foreigners.

As 'High Priest of Every Temple', the pharaoh represented the gods on Earth. He performed rituals and built temples to honour the gods.

Ramesses II travelled from Egypt to the land called Nubia for a battle. The Egyptian pharaoh wanted to control Nubia for two reasons. The first is that Nubia was just south of Egypt and threatened Egypt's borders. The second is that Nubia had exotic animals, wood, and gold.

• Tutankhamun was a pharaoh too.

• When he was only nine years old he became a king. He died when he was young. He died at the age of eighteen years old.

• Other pharaohs were Narmer and Cleopatra VII. All pharaohs were buried in a pyramid. There were many rooms in a tomb like: the burial room, the treasure room, the long room and the small room.
