Finally, we’re kicking off the construction phase of the renovations. I feel like I’ve been talking about it forever. While there have been valid reasons for the delays, I can honestly say nobody has been more frustrated than me. So, I’m particularly pleased to report the builders will commence shortly after Easter. As much as possible, we’ll keep the disruption to a minimum and the club will remain open throughout. But we all know there are bound to be a few inconveniences along the way. I am grateful for your patience and invite you to call in as often as you like to monitor progress in what will be an historic transformation of the club. In preparation for the refurbishment we’re phasing in a few changes around the club. One of the first is the Tryline is closing and the space will be used for functions and other activities. There will be a new version of the Tryline opening at the other end of the club in the refurbishment. During the transition period, some of the most popular dishes from the Tryline will be added to Shamrocks’ menu. On the topic of Shamrocks, I was lucky enough to be around while they were trialling the new specials for April and May and I can confirm the Pigs Might Fly special on Wednesday night is delicious. But make sure you bring a healthy appetite because it’s also pretty big – even as a share plate. Maybe start with the half size version and work your way up. Some of you will also be excited to see pool tables brought into the Sports Bar and we now have Nightlife’s Crowd DJ system out there too. It’s like a free jukebox where you can select songs off the wall unit or download the app and do it from your seat. At this stage we’ll have it operating on Friday nights after the footy but this might be extended down the track.

Speaking of footy, the NRL and IRL are now both in full swing. With the new Fox League channel you can catch every game here live on one of our many screens around the club. We’ll be closed for Good Friday (14th April) but we’re open as per usual every other day during Easter. Then on the 25th we take time to reflect on the men and women who have served their nation in times of conflict so we might enjoy the lives we lead today. We’re closed on the morning of ANZAC Day but will reopen for lunch only at noon and as normal from 1pm. The 14th of May is Mother’s Day and I trust you will all do the right thing by your mum. We will be putting on our very popular buffet breakfast and lunch and you’ll find further details inside. However you choose to treat your mum, make sure it’s special. She’s worth it. I don’t know whether it’s the renos or footy season or something else, but I feel a real sense of energy about the club at the moment. I am really looking forward to the next couple of months and hope you will join me here at Brothers. Cheers,
