Throughout this school year our class developed a very interesting and fun project entitled Reading for pleasure in English. First, we chose a bookworm available in our school library, including classics, crime and mystery, factfiles, fantasy and horror, human interest, thriller and adventure, true stories and world stories. Each of us selected a bookworm and read it at home. Then we filled in the Progress Chart with the title of the bookworm we were reading and drew the face which showed what we thought of it. Afterwards, we created a poster in order to promote the book we were reading, which was later displayed in the school library. After, we were asked to develop several activities bearing in mind the bookworm we were reading: a word search puzzle, pelmanism, ‌ We also created an interactive online publication using ISSUU, which is available on our school library blog.

Word search puzzle We created our own word search puzzle games with words taken from the story. After, another student would have to look for the hidden words between letters of the alphabet to find those words.

Pelmanism
A memory card game in which a pack of cards is spread out face down and players try to turn up pairs with the same symbol. [Named after the Pelman Institute, founded in London in 1898] We selected ten sentences from the story and underlined the key word in each sentence. Then we created eight blue cards with sentences with the word missing and eight yellow cards with the answer to it.
