About the Club OF WEST CENTRAL MISSOURI

The Club is Having a Life-Changing Impact on the Communities it Serves Every weekday, the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri serves more than 600 kids throughout its 11 sites. We are training our community’s future leaders to make positive life choices in Cole Camp, Green Ridge, La Monte, Leeton, Sedalia and Smithton.

Our Mission To inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as caring and productive citizens.

You Make this Mission Possible The cost for one year of programming for one child is $2,040. That’s one year in a safe, positive environment after school and during the summer. If 10 people attending this evening’s event can each give $204, or even 20 people at $102 each, that would ensure one child can benefit from a year of the Boys & Girls Club program. Big or small - it all makes a difference in the life of a child.

S.a.y. “YES! I want to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri.” Start by bidding from the heart! You will have the opportunity to raise your paddle to support the neediest of our community’s children so that no child is turned away. Donations are also accepted any time online at www.bgckids.com or by contacting the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri at 660-826-8331.

Aligning all efforts toward common outcomes Growing together to reach our full potential Operating with high standards of honesty and accountability Fostering an environment of transparency and common voice Transforming the future and providing stability Building relationships through community resources Ensuring that great futures start HERE 4 Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri • An Evening of Heart & Hope

From the Executive Director Dear Friends of the Club: Thank you for attending the 22nd annual auction, An Evening of Heart & Hope, in support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri. We are glad you are here and it is our hope that tonight you will “bid from the heart” to support the life-enriching, community-building programs we offered to 1,761 young people this year. Your attendance tonight shows me that you care about our community and that you care about our kids. Last year at this event, we raised $104,000 – an amazing show of support from each and every one of you that supported and/or attended that magical night! Wouldn’t it be great if we could do it again this year? Perhaps we can even break another record and reach $150,000! At the end of the night, regardless of the total, each and every dollar raised will be a valuable investment in the future of the youth we serve, in our organization, in our schools, and in our community. $2,040 is what it takes to support one child for a full year of our programming. That seems like a lot, but when you think of it as 10 people giving $204, or 20 people giving $102, it quickly turns into a community effort. We see the effects of your generosity on the lives of the children we serve every day. Whether it is a child whose grades have risen from D’s and F’s to A’s and B’s or a child whose character has developed and grown allowing them to become one of our Youth of the Year Candidates (our local winner will be announced February 23rd) or a child who simply needed somewhere safe to go after school to get some homework help and have some fun; your generosity and your vision enables us to provide needed and valuable services. Every dollar you spend tonight helps change the lives of our kids. On behalf of our 1,761 Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri members, “THANK YOU!” Your generosity in sharing your time, talent, and treasure is an investment in hope and opportunity for everyone…our members, their families, their schools, their communities, and our futures. Tonight, we are glad you came for the kids, we hope you will stay for the fun, and with each item auctioned off, that you will bid from the heart! Sincerely,

Brett Barth-Fagan Executive Director P.S. The catalog you hold in your hands was designed by the extremely talented Gail Hibbard-Greble of Bright Design. She went far beyond what we agreed to, and was incredibly gracious throughout the entire process. Thank you, Gail. We truly appreciate your work.

Pink Flamingo Award Nominees

Dave Clippert

Barbara Hayden

Watching out for others is Dave Clippert’s daily mantra. No day was truer of that than May 25th, 2011— the day a tornado hit Sedalia. Because of his warnings and preparations, not a single life was lost in Sedalia that day. Before that day, and since, he has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep Sedalia safe.

Behind the scenes is where Barbara Hayden likes to be, but her presence is always felt. Supporting causes in the Sedalia area is something Barbara does on a more frequent basis than most people realize. Her continuing dedication to our community is a primary reason for her nomination.

The only thing bigger than Dale’s laugh is his generosity. He selflessly finds causes in the community to highlight and support, often without being approached to do so. His outgoing personality and dedication to our community make Dale an ideal community member.

It seems that Barbara is constantly involved in the community. Be it her church, the Boys & Girls Club, the Missouri State Fair Foundation or any other number of organizations and causes, Barbara is always among the first to lend her help. Her generosity and thoughtfulness sets an example from which we can all learn.

It seems that Dale is always helping someone. Be it the Community Santa program, opening his establishment to those in need after the tornado or helping the Boys & Girls Club, you can be sure Dale goes beyond what anyone expects of him. Sedalia is a better place because of Dale Malone.

Saving lives is what Dave does every day. He is constantly thinking of how to keep all of us out of harm’s way; an unimaginable task. The work he did on a day like May 25th paid off in ways none of us can truly ever know. – Brett Barth-Fagan

Pink Flamingo Award Nominees

Rev. Jack Menges

Dianne Simon

Jack Menges is always offering a helping hand without judgment of any kind. He is among the first to offer help and serve the community, both as an individual and through his work at the Open Door Ministries. Compassion and serving are the two words that drive Jack’s life every day and it shows through his work.

Involvement in one community is often more than many of us can handle; not Dianne Simon. Her involvement in the Sedalia, Cole Camp and Whiteman Air Force Base communities is well known. Heavy involvement in the economic development activities in these areas, as well as many community activities, places Dianne in a unique position. She influences the quality of life in West Central Missouri, helping to improve the lives of thousands of people.

A more caring person in our community would be difficult to find. Jack Menges pours his heart and soul into Sedalia and the surrounding communities. The work that he does through Open Door Ministries is amazing and touches the lives of thousands of people each year. We’re lucky to have him here in Sedalia. – Brett Barth-Fagan

Dianne just doesn’t understand the word ‘no’. Her help and generosity is difficult to understand until you start listing the organizations she’s involved in: Whiteman A.F.B. Community Council, Cole Camp Chamber of Commerce, Sedalia Businesswomen Association, the list goes on and on.

Command Sgt. Major Randy Woods Launching a successful JROTC program is incredibly difficult. Launching a JROTC program and turning it into the envy of other JROTC programs across the country is something beyond special. Sgt. Major Woods has created a program that changes lives and enriches our community every day. The lives that Command Sgt. Major Woods has changed are too many to count. He takes kids needing direction and transforms them into the leaders of tomorrow. The JROTC program is something everyone in Sedalia can be proud of, even if they’ve not had a child participate in it. – Brett Barth-Fagan

Guidelines Here are a few guidelines to make sure everyone has a great time tonight. If you have any questions, please let one of our auction organizers know and we will be happy to assist you. On behalf of the youth we serve, we say “Thank You!” 1. Each guest will be given a bid number upon arrival. This number is your only means of identification. Please keep it throughout the evening and use it to bid from the heart! 2. Successful bidders during the live auction may be asked to sign a bidder form. This is a courtesy to the bidder. A verbal “SOLD” by the auctioneer constitutes a legal contract to purchase the item in all cases. 3. All sales are final. There will be no exchanges, refunds or extensions on items, except where specified. 4. Please pay special attention to all conditions, restrictions and expiration dates on items and services. Expiration dates are set by the original donor and will not be extended. No exchanges or refunds will be made. 5. Payment must be made in full for all auction items at the end of the evening. Cash, check and credit cards (MasterCard, Visa and Discover) accepted. S.A.Y. Yes scholarships may be paid as pledged by June 30, 2012. 6. No silent auction items will be released prior to 7:30 in order to give our Silent Auction clerks time to close out the bids. 7. Items depicted in the video presentation are for illustrative purposes only and may not be actual auction items. Every attempt has been made to use actual images of the items generously donated. 8. Reservations for all trips, hotels, parties and similar events must be mutually arranged with the donor unless otherwise specified. Some restrictions may apply. 9. Restaurant certificates and vouchers do not include liquor, tax or gratuities, unless otherwise indicated. 10. All items expire February 2013, unless otherwise stated.

10 Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri • An Evening of Heart & Hope

11. The Boys & Girls Club reserves the right to withdraw any item from the sale prior to call for bid. 12. The Boys & Girls Club assumes no responsibility for any item purchased and either re-donated or re-sold to another event. 13. The Boys & Girls Club has endeavored to catalog and describe the property correctly, but all property is sold “AS IS.” No printed statements contained in the catalog or made orally at the sale or elsewhere shall be deemed a warranty, representation or assumption of liability.

Express Pay (Offered Upon Arrival) Auction attendees may register for Express Pay upon arrival at the auction. This will speed up the checkout process at the end of the evening. • Present credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover) at the registration desk, manned by US Bank personnel for swiping and authorization. Your card number will be stored and processed at the end of the event. • A receipt for your purchases will be mailed to you the week following the auction. • If you do not purchase any items, game tickets or raffle entries, your credit card number will not be charged and your authorization will be destroyed at the conclusion of the event.
