The Kansas FFA Foundation exists to enable Kansas Agriculture Education and FFA programs to empower future leaders and their passions.

FRIENDS OF FFA Because of your steadfast financial support of the Kansas FFA, we have been able to support many facets of the organization which will make a meaningful and lasting effect on FFA members and our agriculture education professionals. The Kansas FFA Foundation provided more than $400,000 in support to various student enrichment programs this past year. This annual report, while it showcases the breadth and depth of the support the Foundation receives from the agriculture industry, businesses and individuals who have helped sponsor awards, scholarships, grants, and leadership development opportunities, it does not adequately capture the lasting positive effect that these investments have on our more than 9,500 members in nearly 200 FFA chapters across our great state. The leadership and technical skills that our members acquire through their participation in FFA will endure long after they have hung up the iconic jacket for the last time. We are proud to be able to showcase the students who were recognized for excellence this past year on these pages. This organization is truly shaping our future leaders.

90,000 MEALS I Can. We Will. Kansas FFA members who gathered for the 90th Kansas FFA Convention held May 30–June 1, 2018 in Manhattan fully demonstrated the theme of this year’s event by volunteering help less fortunate Kansans. In celebration of the 90th anniversary of the convention, members, advisors and alumni packaged 60,000 meals during convention and an additional 30,000 a month later during State Conference for Chapter Leaders (SCCL) for a total of 90,000 meals. More than 300 individuals participated in the two packaging events. Food insecurity is a challenge for many Kansans, young and old alike. To address this concern, members gathered together at the Stanley Stout Center to package a nutritious meal of cheesy rice and vegetables. Once packaged, these meals were then boxed and distributed to various hunger relief agencies including YouthFront, The Flint Hills Bread Basket, Kansas Food Bank and Salina Emergency Aid. FFA Chapters participating in the event also claimed meals to take to food outlets in their local communities. The meal packaging event was made possible by a National FFA ‘Living to Serve Grant’ as the State Day of Service. Other organizations that financially supported the event included Ardent Mills, Kansas Electric Cooperatives with matching CoBank Funds, and MKC.

MEMBERS EXCEL IN CDES & LDES

During the 90th Kansas FFA Convention, many notable achievements of student members were recognized. A new state record of awarding 305 state FFA degrees, the highest degree of active membership bestowed by a state FFA association. The state degree sponsorship was made possible by the Kansas Electric Cooperatives and Solomon Corporation. Kansas FFA also celebrated the more than $160,000 in scholarships awarded to members across the state. This included scholarships being presented by the National FFA and the Kansas FFA Foundation for the pursuit of higher education as well as Washington Leadership Conference scholarships.

Career Development Events (CDEs) and Leadership Development Events (LDEs) help students develop the abilities to think critically, communicate clearly, and perform effectively in a competitive job market. At the state level, there are 23 CDEs and LDEs, covering skills in everything from communications to mechanics. Winning teams at the state level competed at the 91st National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October. 2018 Kansas FFA CDE and LDE winners were:

CHAPMAN WINS TRIPLE CROWN For the seventh straight year, the Chapman FFA Chapter was awarded the prestigious Triple Crown Award. The Triple Crown award is given to the FFA chapter that performs the best in the National Chapter Award program, which recognizes chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization in three separate divisions: Building Communities, Growing Leaders and Strengthening Agriculture. Chapman FFA received $1,000 and the Garlow Memorial Trophy, which is sponsored by the Bill Garlow Family in memory of past Kansas FFA officer Bob Garlow.

2018 STAR FARMER Atwood FFA member Natalie Hawkins was recognized as the State Star Farmer, one of the association’s top honors, during the 90th Kansas FFA Convention on the Kansas State University campus. Hawkins’ SAE is in Beef Production – Entrepreneurship. During her SAE experience, she learned new methods and technologies to improve her farm and cattle herd. After high school, Hawkins plans to attend Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in animal science and is interested in studying feed nutrition and agribusiness. She wants to return to northwest Kansas and practice as a feed nutritionist for local feedlots, dairies and large swine and beef operations.

2018 STAR IN PLACEMENT Washington County FFA member Ryan Stewart was recognized as the State Star in Ag Placement, one of the association’s top honors, during the 90th Kansas FFA Convention on the Kansas State University campus. Stewart’s SAE is in Ag Sales - Placement. He has learned many skills while working with customers through his SAE. He helped customers determine what customers needed to operate their farm. He also operates the automated seed treating system. After graudation, Stewart joined a business to auctioneer and serve as a sales representative. He plans to become an operating partner in Stewart Seeds LLC while continuing to work as an auctioneer.

2018 STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS Scott City FFA member Emily Glenn was recognized as the State Star in Agribusiness, one of the association’s top honors, during the 90th Kansas FFA Convention on the Kansas State University campus. Glenn’s SAE is in Swine Production Entrepreneurship. She has not only raised swine but expanded her herd over the last four years. Currently, her herd consists of three sows and one gilt. Glenn sells the show pigs and feeder pigs. In addition, she also owns and operates Glenn’s Show Feed where she sells cattle, goat, sheep and swine show feeds. Glenn has a line of base mixes and cattle minerals that she uses to create her various types of feed. She uses her own product to feed her swine.

State officers traveled to South Africa with the international Leadership Seminar for State Officers for two weeks.

Over 150 members came together in Junction City to grow at Leader Lab.

FFA chapters across the state celebrated FFA week through service.

Rock Springs Ranch hosted State Conference for Chapter Leaders in July. Leaders explore the Program of Activities and plan for the upcoming year.

2000 + FFA members and guests celebrated 90 years of Kansas FFA at the 90th State Convention in Manhattan by competing, conducting business and listening to speakers like the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

Western Kansas FFA members learned about the importance of water at the Kansas Youth Water Advocates training.

Kansas FFA members competed with Missouri FFA members to see who could collect the most food donations at the Western Farm Show in Kansas City.

Students traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC). The conference focuses on exploring our nationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s capital and establishing a Living to Serve plan.

Members from around the state gather at Kansas State Unversity to compete in the State Career Development Event competition. At the Kansas State Fair, members showcased their SAEs and hosted displays for the public. Trace Adkins, former Louisianna FFA member, wore a Kansas FFA shirt at his concert.

OCT Indianapolis, Indiana hosted the 91st National FFA Convention. Kansas members competed in CDEs and LDEs, interviewed as Proficiency award finalists and learned about agriculture at the expo. The convention also hosted the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump.
