I want to express my gratitude to the members and community leaders who have warmly welcomed me into my new role. Your outreach has reinforced my love for this place and the mission we collectively strive for. My first two months have been a whirlwind of experiences; at times, it felt like time was racing by, while at other moments, it seemed to stand still. Our community underwent a profound transformation following the tragic events of October 7 and its aftermath. The headlines gripped me, freezing time as I tried to process the gravity of what had occurred. Yet, as the remarkable team at the JCC collaborated with me, one another and other community agencies to respond through communications, safety measures, and awareness opportunities time seemed to slip away. Prior to that fateful day and since then, even in the most challenging moments, I've also found gratitude. In our collective response to the events of October 7 and since then, many of you have expressed your thoughts and concerns, asked questions, or simply conveyed your gratitude for our efforts. To each one of you, I extend my heartfelt thanks. Your willingness to share is valued, and I encourage you to continue doing so. Your trust in our commitment to prioritize your well-being and safety is deeply appreciated. The decisions we've made have not been easy, and we haven't taken them lightly. Thank you for your patience as we carefully evaluate all available options and communicate with you, whether through email or phone calls. A special acknowledgment goes out to those who have supported our dedicated staff. They work tirelessly every day, always keeping your well-being in mind. When you express your gratitude or recognize their efforts, both they and I hear and appreciate it. I've received messages from several of you, sharing instances where our staff has gone above and beyond or exhibited professionalism and patience in their work. Your feedback is invaluable. Thank you for being an integral part of our JCC family. We take pride in the work we do and the mission we serve, and we recognize that we couldn't do it without your support. Looking ahead to the early part of 2024, we are excited to announce an upcoming Youth & Camp Expo. We encourage you to attend and bring friends with you for a closer look at what we do for our youth. (For more information, please refer to page 5) As we approach the celebration of Chanukah, I am filled with hope that this year's festivities will carry a special meaning of peace, joy, and light.

Families spend time together creating memories and special family traditions. As fun as this time of year is, it can also be stressful for parents. There is one type of gift that will bring joy and excitement to your child just like toys, games, and puzzles will, and that is the Experience Gift. Experience Gifts build everlasting memories with your child. The experience can be as simple as having a family movie night or as extravagant as a trip somewhere. These moments are special because you are creating memories that can be treasured for months and years to come. An Experience Gift is truly a gift that lasts a lifetime!

Health & Fitness Group Exercise Instructor Highlight

Kim's journey began in Traverse City, Michigan, and continued when she moved to Troy, Ohio, in the middle of her junior year. Following high school, she enlisted in the Air Force, embarking on a remarkable career teaching group fitness for over 30 years. Her foray into fitness instruction began during her Air Force days when daily participation in aerobic classes caught the eye of an instructor, who suggested she consider teaching. This marked the start of Kim's fulfilling career in aerobics, predating the era when certifications were obligatory. Juggling aerobics as a side gig during her 26 years of active duty, Kim retired from the Air Force in December 2011. Post-retirement, she charted her course, establishing a thriving fitness business that emphasized teaching classes and offering full-time personal training.

Kim Meyers AquaFit Instructor

Kim, a proud mother of two adult children, has a 28-year-old daughter working for Black Rifle Coffee, ensuring a well-stocked supply at home. Meanwhile, her 22-year-old son serves as an Electronic Technician in the Navy. In her leisure time, Kim enjoys reading, waterfront activities, quality moments with her daughter and grandson, exercise, and painting. Recently, she's embraced a return to traditional living by crafting homemade bread, brownie mix, ice cream, taco seasoning, and more. Beyond her personal pursuits, Kim dedicates her time to serving on the board of a non-profit that supports an orphanage in Uganda. With eight visits since 2018, she cherishes the moments spent with the 73 kids and 8 staff members, witnessing the blessings bestowed upon their Ugandan family. Kim's passion extends beyond personal interests, as she is enthusiastic about teaching classes and guiding individuals to understand how the body is designed to move. Her favorite saying encapsulates her philosophy: "You don't stop moving because you get old; you get old because you stop moving." Keep moving!
