Northfield is the best of worlds: a thriving, desirable suburb and a village with hometown charm. The village, incorporated in 1926, is located 20 miles from the heart of Chicago’s loop. With a population of approximately 5,700, Northfield attracts those looking for a small-town way of life near a large city. When the village was incorporated, a commitment was made to protect open spaces. This commitment continues today as the village successfully balances that prized open space with commercial development. Northfield has more than 30 acres of open parkland that includes a bird sanctuary. The village is one of the few suburbs that issues licenses for keeping horses. The Village of Northfield is a warm, familyoriented community with scenic properties, an outstanding school system and a wonderful mix of businesses. The Edens Expressway (I-94) is east of Northfield and the Tri-State Tollway (I294) is less than four miles west of Northfield.
