irst, I want to say welcome to the Village of River Grove, who has merged their Chamber with the Chamber by O’Hare.We are very excited and happy to have River Grove as a part of the Chamber. I wish to thank Village President Marilynn May and Director of Community Development Ray Bernero for their support and help with this endeavor. Ray has also volunteered to serve on the Chamber Board of Directors and was unanimously voted in by the board. The Board of Directors for the Chamber by O’Hare now has, in addition to Ray, John Schneider, Director of Community Development and Zoning for Franklin Park, and John Zalud, Director of Community Development for Schiller Park. I want to thank them for the many hours they volunteer to help and support the Chamber.We feel that this is a terrific benefit to our members. The Chamber by O’Hare is very excited to provide the 2015 Community Guide, which is distributed to all residents of the three Villages plus made available at the village halls, libraries and community centers. River Grove
O
n behalf of the Village of River Grove, I want to commend the “Chamber by O’Hare,” comprised of the villages of Franklin Park, Schiller Park, and, now, River Grove. This group works tirelessly and professionally to support the businesses in the communities they represent. I’m sure that you will find this Chamber of Commerce Community Guide to be a handy resource for quickly finding the many nearby businesses, services, and organizations that are available to you. I recommend that you keep this directory close to your phone and refer to it often. If you have not yet joined the Chamber by O’Hare as a member, I urge you to do so soon. In addition to this Community Guide, the Chamber hosts an excellent, up-to-date website which both informs and promotes the members of the Chamber as well as the residents of our communities. The Chamber frequently hosts evening networking events where likeminded business entrepreneurs can meet to both socialize and share ideas for expanding their customer base. River Grove residents and business owners already know that our town is a town filled with character, holding on dearly to our long history as Leyden Township’s oldest incorporated village. The result is a community with an unmistakable and genuine small town charm. At the same time, River Grove has laid the groundwork to capitalize on strong development opportunities. Until recently, the national recession severely limited
the ability to expand existing businesses and start new ones. This past year, I’m pleased to say, the worst of that situation has passed. Banks are once again making business loans, residential and commercial construction sites are popping up everywhere, and there is a renewed willingness to invest in our communities. This is a perfect opportunity for municipalities to eliminate the many vacant storefronts and business properties that have plagued us for so long. New businesses bring new customer traffic which is a benefit to ALL businesses, both new and existing. River Grove is pleased to be partnering with the Franklin Park and Schiller Park communities as a part of the Chamber by O’Hare. “Strength in numbers” is the philosophy behind the creation of a multi-community Chamber of Commerce. By sharing our resources and ideas, we can accomplish so much more than by “going it alone” which, once again, is a great reason for you to become a member of the Chamber. Shopping locally not only benefits our local retailers and service providers, it also reaps rewards for our local residents. s our economy continually improves, Schiller Park is also moving forward with an increase in economic development. As I move into my second year as mayor of Schiller Park, I remain energized to working closely with the community, both business and residential, to bring new beginnings to our wonderful village. To ensure the growth of our town, it is essential that we promote and shop local businesses and create a community that families wish to live and raise their children in. Schiller Park has so much to offer.We are strategically located near major thoroughfares, public transportation and of course O’Hare Airport; convenience right at your fingertips. Our Police, Fire and EMS Departments are second to none and offer our residents the security and peace of mind that their safety and well-being are of the utmost importance. W
elcome to the Village of Franklin Park! We are located adjacent to O’Hare International Airport and in the center of the Chicago region. We are a Village of Neighbors and an ideal place to raise a family. We are a vibrant community featuring tree-lined streets, safe neighborhoods, good schools and quality, affordable Village services. Our home prices are stable and our quality of life is excellent.We offer a variety of retail establishments, diverse recreational options and restaurants to satisfy every taste and pocketbook. Franklin Park is also a thriving commerce center.We are one of the state’s largest manufacturing districts and our industrial occupancy rate continues to increase.We have streamlined the permitting process at Village Hall to encourage relocation and expansion in our Village. Our job is to make your job easier. Our upgraded infrastructure, cooperative regional partnerships and Open for Business attitude have brought new businesses, investment and jobs to Franklin Park. Access to highways and rail spurs and proximity to O’Hare Airport make us a transportation hub without equal. The completion of the Elgin-O’Hare Western Access project will provide increased opportunities to move goods regionally, nationally and globally. We have worked hard to secure millions of dollars in state and federal funding to upgrade our infrastructure, repair our streets and sidewalks, beautify our thoroughfares, alleviate flooding and improve our neighborhoods. Franklin Park is a thriving community of neighbors that enjoy safe, family-friendly and affordable opportunities to work and play together. Our annual Railroad Daze festival is a tradition that draws visitors from around the region. Our Let’s Move Initiative collaborates with area schools and parks as we strive to foster a healthier community for everyone. We have embraced an ambitious agenda to foster economic sustainability. Our award winning programs include an expanded community wide recycling effort and utilizing natural lawn care practices that eliminate dangerous pesticides on Village property. We replaced outmoded Village cars with electric vehicles and have installed charging stations and encouraged Walgreen’s to do the same.
