BANDRA BOY ORGANISES UNITE: A musical state of mind NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITION

On 3rd & 4th May, 100 speedsolvers of "speedcubers" from all over the country gathered for Mumbai Summer Open, a national-level competition for the cube. Organised by 2 teens who are alumnus of Bombay Scottish School-Amay Saxena & Subhankar Panda, the competition hosted a variety of disciplines of speedcubing. All the way from the rather trivial 2x2 to solving a 5x5 cube, people of all ages solved the cubes in a matter of seconds. Nikhil Mande won Mumbai Summer Open ‘14 with an average of 15.13 seconds. Pradyut Sekhsaria finished second (16.08)

& Gaurav Taneja finished third (16.12). Mumbai Summer Open saw people of all ages, solving the puzzle and sharing their passion for the sport. It was affiliated to the World Cube Association which is the alpha body for the organization and execution of competitive speedcubing. The annual Mumbai Summer Open was supported by Speed Cubing Mumbai Unlimited and Creative Express, both involved in promoting Cubing in Mumbai through workshops and other such activities. A FISHY STORY

EAT OUT When we think seafood in Mumbai, our mind automatically wanders to those big shot fine dining restaurants which generally cost a bomb. So when I walked into Nothin Fishy About It!, I was pleasantly surprised, because you don’t really find a good fast food joint these days which primarily serves fish. It is a neat little joint in the ever increasing cluster of food joints on Carter Road. Along with the cleverly designed logo and catchy name, the interiors too were beautifully put together. The menu was written on the t-shirts of figurines drawn on the wall with paint and felt pens. The rest of the counter too was very efficiently designed with wooden blocks. The restaurant offered a plethora of items ranging from grilled fish to a number of Maharashtrian specialties. The portions were quite large though, too large even for some. We ordered four dishes, the first being a Malai Chicken Tikka roll, which was my least favourite. It had a delicious creamy filling with a lot of soft chicken pieces. The only reason I said that this is my least favourite dish is because I just really liked the others. The second dish was called Grilled Fish Tikka which was a rich red in colour and in flavour. It was spicy, but not too spicy. Topped off with a bit of lime and dipped in some green chutney made it an explosion of contrasting flavors. The fish was soft and absolutely fresh. The oener comes from a family that supplies fresh fish to famous hotels from trawlers, so her fish is always fresh. Then came the Kung Pao Potatoes, which was the only vegetarian dish that we ordered. It too had a distinct red colour like the previous dish, but contrary to the previous dish, it had a more crispy texture and a more tangy taste. All in all, it was pretty much the most succulent portion of potatoes that I had had in a while. Lastly, we had a portion of Butter Garlic Prawns along with some Garlic Bread. The gravy went perfectly with the fresh and juicy pieces of prawn. The presentation was beautiful too. The garlic bread along with the gravy tasted heavenly. This was my absolute favourite dish amongst the four that I got to taste. The owner of the joint, Sanyukta Dhangar Lal comes from a P.R. background, and has established what many others today wish to, to open their own restaurant. She, with a little help from her husband, has managed to open this wonderful little fast food restaurant serving the most beautiful fish. Fast food, she rightly claims, is the food of today, which is why she opted for fast food. And what better place to open a restaurant in than on Carter Road? When we first entered, there weren’t many customers. In fact, we were the only ones there. But as the hours piled up, so did the number of customers, and very soon the place was all but packed. The food came quite quickly in neat boxes made of foil and the service was impeccable. The whole experience was heightened by the social nature of the owner and her husband, who personally greeted all their customers. Basically, Nothin Fishy About It! is pretty much an allrounder in terms of the food, pricing as well as the interiors. It has a homely atmosphere which makes you want to visit again and again, which is probably why the joint has gained this much popularity in its teething period itself, after all, it’s but fifteen days old. Bakery is an art and, like Rome wasn't built in a day, in the same way you cannot bake a perfect cake right away. Mrs. Agarwalla discovered her passion at an early age of 15. Back then it was just a passion but 2 years ago, she decided to make it her career. Located in Bandra, Pali Hill, this expert conducts dessert making workshops to spread the joy of baking and promote home cooking. She teaches various gastro-

nomical delights like Red Velvet Cakes, Oreo Cheesecake, multiple varieties of luscious Cupcakes, Rainbow push up pops, Mississippi Mud Pie and the yummiest chocolate brownies. She also teaches you breads like focaccia, stuffed buns, pita breads, pretzels etc. and when they bake, the home fills in with divine aroma.
