Bandra lads shine at International Throwball Tourney

Bandra has long been known to produce sportspersons at the highest level in varied disciplines. It’s not surprising then that a lot of school children are taking to sports and earning themselves laurels at the state, national and even international level. Be it football, hockey, gymnastics, cricket, athletics and what have you, these kids keep proving time and again that among the long list of traits Bandra is known for, sports is among the top, if not at the top. What’s even more heartening to know is that the average age of these achievers is trending lower, which gives us a vision of the bright future us Bandraites can expect to see in the coming years. Just last week, the Sub-Junior Throwball U-18 team representing the country returned home triumphant after they bagged the winner’s trophy in the Indo-Sri-Lanka Sub-Junior International Throwball Tournament which was held in the Sri Lankan capital city of Colombo.

What’s striking about the team is that four of its players are from Bandra itself! All of just fifteen, Dhruv Nahata, Sahil Hiranandani, Ronak Kamra and Hridhay Punjabi, have made us Bandraites all proud. Playing in a three-match series against the Sri Lankans, the Indian team lost their first match one set to two. But the way they fought back from there in the next two matches is what is noteworthy. For the next three days after their first game, they went back to the drawing board with video calls with their coach - who couldn’t travel with the team, practised for three hours daily and mentally prepared themselves for the next two matches. Getting used to the food there was a task for many, most being vegetarians. Besides, one of the Indian team’s players had to travel back home after falling ill. Fighting all this, the team came out all guns blazing in the second match to blank the Sri Lankans in two straight sets.

L to R: Sahil Hiranandani, Dhruv Nahata, Ronak Kamra & Hridhay Punjabi What that meant was that the third game would be the title decider. Standing at one set apiece after two sets, the Indians didn’t let anything deter them as they battled nerves to hold on in the third set of the match and bring home the winner’s trophy amidst a whole lot of celebrations back home. What’s more, the team’s achievement was celebrated on their way

home as well by ecstatic Indians who got news of the team’s victory. As Ronak Kamra put it, “It was a whole lot of practice, perserverance and passion that got us the cup!” Well, we couldn’t agree more that those three Ps are the secret to success! Valerian D’Costa

D’Monte Cross demolition will save other Crosses Architect David Cardoz’s words at St. Peter’s after peaceful protest

Even as people of all faiths gathered at St. Peter’s Church after marching from the H-West BMC office gate, where a peaceful protest was held; many speakers spoke about the unfortunate cross incident, on 29th April 2017. Architect David Cardoz summed up the entire issue, stating, “The D’Monte Cross Demolition will save all other crosses.” And the multi-faith congregation applauded this prophetic statement. As an update, Rita D’Sa, President of the Bombay Catholic Sabha has stated, “We (BCS) have filed a Writ Petition in the Bombay High Court, with regard to the demolition of the Holy Crosses in the city. The matter is now sub judice and we will keep you updated on the progress.” As of now, the cross has been strapped on the wall, at the same location, with no

The demolition video has gone viral and several global comments have come in – from across the globe. Maybe, the court’s verdict will validate the prophetic words – to make it a reality. Impeaching of CHS Chair Person & Secretary on the Rise Reports are coming in that several co-operative housing societies in Bandra have Managing Committees, whose sole purpose of taking office is to control the entire running of the society, to suit them. Genuine issues of other residents do not matter. Opposition is cut down mercilessly, by creating sub groups & declaring invalid votes, on flimsy & illegal grounds. Money power plays an important role. Usually, a member whose flat documents are not clear, influences the controlling authorities & bribes the top person. Then, using more money power and promises of ‘taking care of’; cliques are formed to take over as Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, etc. Puppets are inducted. Once this is done, democracy is thrown to the winds. Manipulation of records & calculations are rampant. Corruption increases in leaps & bounds – done cleverly, to show that ‘it is legal’. Dictatorship is implemented. If other members cannot handle this situation, they are just quiet – something that works wonders for this ‘elite group’. Disgruntled society members are subdued for some time, till a knowledgeable member studies the situation & hits back, to get justice and transparency. When this happens, there are ego clashes. If the opposition is strong enough & can garner enough votes, the corrupt committee can be dissolved. If there is enough compelling proof of malpractices, the Chairperson, Secretary & Treasurer can be impeached & a case filed against them. Many residential societies are plagued with such situations. Right now, this type of scenario is reportedly on the rise. Kishore Tavde

Turbocharge your health with Turbo Fitness Gym The aura dispensed by a gym should transport you to the place where Rocky Balboa trained before he entered the boxing ring and Turbo Fitness on Waterfield Road definitely exudes the aura of iron pumping metabolism. The 6000 sq. ft. basement gymnasium has a gritty and spacious feel. An array of equipment and regime based inventory such as the Functional Training

Before I could completely get distraught because of the stats I was reading, Riddhik and his battalion of K11 certified trainers were by my side. Getting back to the reason as to why I was there I asked him what sets his gym apart from the multi-

They are also expanding and plan to launch facilities such as MMA (Ring/Cage) training, Indoor Rock Climbing terrain and Power Yoga, Zumba, Kick Boxing and Group functional training. The place is vast and is thus

set with an integrated Cross-Fit Rig, Cardio equipment from Intensa, ergonomically accurate strength & weight training machines, kettle bell, prowler, sandbag, TRX gear and heavy duty tyre sets for various workout schedules. Turbo Fitness also has a steam room, shower & locker facilities, impressed with the infrastructure and hoping to have a word with the Managing Director, I went to the receptionist. How eating Chicken can lead to Antibiotic Resistance Why buying medicines through prescription is a must With consumption of beef and pork dropping low, there has been a considerable rise in demand for white meat, in other words, chicken. To meet these mounting demands, poultry farmers and meat producers are on their toes delivering chicken infused with antibiotics, which make them grow bigger and faster. According to a study conducted by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) samples of chicken were tested to check the amount of antibiotics present in them. It came to light that residues of six antibiotics, namely chlortetracycline, oxytetracycline, doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin and neomycin were found in 40% of those samples. Why is it a grief concern? Antibiotics found in livestock are also used to treat humans and considered to be medically vital. Antibiotics like enrofloxacin have been banned by the Food & Drug Association (F.D.A.), as they lead to a type of drug-resistant bacteria known as Campylobacter, which is detected in cases of food poisoning in humans. The widespread use of antibiotic in both humans and animals are contributing heavily towards emergence of the so called “superbugs” that are drug-resistant bacteria. When humans are infected with superbugs, they can get infections. These infections are complex to treat, as the bacteria resist the effect of antibiotics. Statistics have estimated 700,000 people worldwide have died due to drug-resistant infections annually and the count is expected to cross 10 million by 2050. Big Epidemic in making. Other healthiest option could be to stop the consumption of antibiotics without a valid

prescription. Stop picking medicines off of the counter and self-treating yourself. Regular use of antibiotics can lead to your body getting immune to the bacteria that causes infections. When your body is hit by a worse type of infection like dengue or tuberculosis, it becomes resistant to drugs that are meant to combat these illnesses. As we enter the next phase of world medical history, let’s curb the development of antibiotic resistant bacteria that is one of the most alarming health emergencies globally. Opt for prescription drugs instead, so as to help these drugs retain their usefulness. Having prescription drugs for even the most common health problems, like cold and cough, can go a long way in maintaining your health, as they’re suggested in right dosages by your doctor. If medical cost is your major concern, there are online pharmacies like PharmEasy that offer FLAT 20% off on prescription medicines. These emerging systems also support prescription of generic medicines in order to make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable to all sectors of the society. Why buy medicines through Prescription only… Safe & Convenient: Online pharmacies do not entertain sale of drugs without prescription and restraint the sale of any spurious drugs. Discourage self-medication: Only after a registered medical practitioner has issued a valid prescription that the order is processed by an online pharmacy. No medicines are sold online without valid prescriptions. A patient cannot buy his/her choice of medicine online, as suggested by a friend or a relative to treat his/her illness. Drug Abuse: E-pharmacies that come under the purview of Indian Internet Pharmacy Association (IIPA) do not allow the sale of restricted Schedule X medicines through their platforms. Therefore, customers cannot buy any restricted medicines online. For chronic diseases, patients are required to provide the e-pharmacists with a valid prescription, thus ensuring their safety. Drug recall: E-pharmacies have made it easier to track down medicines that are of unsatisfactory quality. This helps people from buying low quality drugs that can have severe health implications if consumed. Source of medicines: All the medicine sales conducted online are recorded digitally with the patient details, drug batch number, expiry date, etc. that enables to track the order from the distribution unit

Satanic ‘Long Arm of the Law’ Ramification from the Bandra Cross demolition has left Catholics in a devastated mood. No happiness for a pious and honourable community, but utter remorse and disgust. Even Moses or Malachi could never have imagined such calamity would come down on Christians in the 21st century. The demolition has shown the rise of fanaticism. Under the pretext of disguises it is raising its ugly head to change secular India - to propagate their own thoughts and beliefs. The formation of ‘gau rakshaks’, who take law into their own hands, with support from right wing fanatics in government & alliance partners, foretells hidden motive. There was no need for the H-Ward AMC to take such stringent measures to demolish the Cross on 29th April 2017. In conniving with a political party & to appease ‘Marathi Manoos’, the action of demolition is grossly ‘suspicious’. It was all pre-planned much in advance, probably from the time a Bishop came riding on a horse carriage with all pomposity, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of maintenance by the cross caretakers. The ‘evil eye’ could not bear to see such happiness, flowing

from the heart of zone worshippers, parading through the streets. At this time, the die was cast by the ‘evil eye’, to demolish the Cross. And an ‘evil eye’ is more venomous than the bite of the Cobra. The date & time of demolition was so well planned that it left no time for the Catholic community to move a Chamber Summons - & seek a stay order, because the Courts had recessed for summer vacation. The AMC’s argument that they also demolished a ‘Sai Baba’ facade 50 meters from the Cross at same time, is no justification for the barbarous act of bull dozing a 122 year old Cross. According to the Archeological Survey of India - you cannot alter, repair and demolish any structure which is 100 years old and deemed as a heritage site. If this was not so, the Taj Mahal would have gone for a toss. But the demolition of Babri Masjid and the series of bomb blasts that followed, has shown that the fanatics do not provoke Muslims, come what may. So the lesson learnt is - go for ‘soft targets’. That same ‘Sai Baba’ photo on a private wall is recent and not century old as the Cross. Even though it may be illegal, it did not cause any disturbance to people of

other faiths. So why was this ‘Rambo style officer’ of the H Ward West unnecessarily creating disharmony among other faiths? Rather than doing something sacrilegious, he should target illegal structures - built with black money. H-Ward West carries the dubious distinction of permitting buildings to be built in cramped spaces, where there is no space for vehicle entry. Four separate complaints were lodged with H-West Ward, for the demolition of encroachments along

Sea-Side Cemetery wall, where two storey high structures have come up & draining water into the graveyard. Yet, no action has been taken, because there is a nexus between parties that benefit from this illegal construction. Money has exchanged hands. This is the character of our country, high on corruption & low on morals. The BMC must reinstate the Cross at own cost & transfer the officer forthwith, for a ‘heinous crime against society’. TRAVEL DIARIES

TRAVELLING ON AN INDIAN PASSPORT Close your eyes and picture yourself driving past picturesque seaside villages lined up against a backdrop of the panoramic Alpine view, or maybe exploring the sights and smells of the Spice Bazaar or hiking the Machu Picchu or simply sipping on mint tea in the heart of the Fes Medina. Ever desired to go abroad but was put off by the amount of paperwork required? While the Indian Passport is not yet a ‘Golden Document’ like those of the US, UK, EU, Japan, etc. there are ways to overcome the stress! With more and more countries realising the potential of tourism for their economic growth, many have eased their visa process. This means that in some cases, a person can travel legally and without a visa to certain countries that still require a visa for an Indian citizen. How does one go about doing that? Travelling to Europe (Schengen Visa): With a Schengen C-visa (which allows a person to stay in the 26-member Schengen region for a maximum of 90 days in a

period of 180 days), a person can also visit the 3 microstates of Vatican City, Monaco and San Marino. Additionally, with a multiple entry visa, one can enter Andorra, Gibraltar and the East European countries of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Belarus, Cyprus, Romania, Bulgaria and Georgia. In short, a person can travel to 42 countries in Europe using the Schengen visa alone despite the Schengen region comprising only 26 nations. Few other countries outside Europe that one can visit using the Schengen visa include Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Philippines. Japanese visa: In addition to entering the Land of the Rising Sun, the Japanese visa can be used by Indian passport holders to enter South Korea, Philippines, Georgia, Mexico and Costa Rica.

US and UK visa: Most of the countries that can be visited with a valid Schengen and Japanese visa can also be entered using a valid US and UK visa. Under the British-Irish Visa Scheme (BVIS), an Indian Passport holder can enter Ireland with a British visa and vice versa. Countries that offer E-visa/ETA: Many countries have started issuing electronic visas/authorizations. In the comfort of your home, submit the user-friendly form and payonline without having to bear extra agency charges and without the headache of having to send your passport and other documents to the consulate. Your

visa is usually emailed to within 72 hours. Some of the countries that issue e-visa to Indian passport holders are Malaysia, Myanmar, Bahrain, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Singapore (only through an approved agency) and Brazil (starting March 2018). Turkey, Peru and Taiwan offer e-visas/ ETAs only if one has a valid supporting visa (like US/Schengen/UK or Japanese/ Australian etc.). Vietnam provides visa-on-approval. For Sri Lanka and Hong Kong, one requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) but without the need of a supporting visa. Binoy Lobo

Give your Child the Right Start There’s a saying that goes: “Catch them young & watch them grow”. This hold true as we know that learning begins in the womb. Prenates can see, hear, feel, remember & think before birth. The fetal learning capabilities are much more specific than we thought. And by 2-3 years, a child’s brain has about 200 trillion nerve cell connections, which is twice the number of an adult’s. Thus during these first three years of life, the foundations of thinking, languages, visions, attitudes, aptitudes & other characteristics are laid down. However in today’s fast paced world where sometimes both parents are working, they are unable to, make the most of these formative years. That’s where playgroups & nurseries come in, they help promote young children’s development through play experiences as well as provide an opportunity for parents to build supportive networks, make friends & share experiences with other parents. Windchimes (Hill Road) Located just opposite St. Andrews Church on Hill Road, Windchimes follows the play-way method incorporated with ideas from Montessori, modified to meet children’s requirements. This method helps children step out of their home & familiar surroundings & learn among a different set of people, who include kids & teachers. Since the play-way method is a flexible one based on a child’s interest & aptitude it encourages complete freedom of expression. It also is one of the very few schools in the

accelerated learning program, developed over ten years in Silicon Valley, places the focus on mainly cognitive, language, and communication skill development of the child. The program incorporates practices from Reggio-Emilia, Waldorf (Steiner), and Montessori teaching methods to foster creativity and imagination, personal, emotional and social development, skills in the creative arts and gross and fine motor skills in each child. The three pillars of their program ensure that all of the developmental objectives are met in a fun, caring, nurturing environment, and at a pace that every child is individually comfortable with. area which has open space which is a massive bonus for the kids to run around & a splash pool in the hot summer months. Kangaroo Kids (Prof Almeida Park Road) Formerly located at Pali Hill, this play school needs no introduction. Their curriculum is based on active and experiential learning. By using innovative teaching methods, they elevate action-based learning to the next stage. They have play school from 1.6 to 2.5, nursery from 2.6 to 3.5, as well as Junior K.G. and Senior K.G. from 3.6 to 4.5 and 4.6 to 5.5 years respectively. At Kangaroo Kids the teachers help children learn as opposed to teaching them. All of their classes have CCTVs installed.

They offer two programmes, Toddler Program: (from 15 to 30 months) and the Primary Program: (from 2.6 to 6 years). The classroom is designed around the children’s specific needs and abilities that allow them to explore and learn at their own pace and on their own terms. Kinder Home offers a recognized, top quality approach that parents can rely on to educate their children. Its diversified program helps to promote intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth.

As parents we want the best for our children and this decision can become a make or break for child’s attitude towards school. Climate Change

Dear Reader, June is when climate change is most evident everywhere. Monsoons are at almost here. At this time of the year, Bandra’s western waterfront – the majestic, unhindered (as of now) Arabian Sea changes colours like a chameleon – sooner that you can imagine. This is indeed a sight to see from the Bandstand & Carter Promenades. From scorching sunny days to cooler, cloudy & windy scenes that culminate in either a drizzle or a downpour – the upcoming rains are something that we all look forward to. It is nature in all her glory. Yet, the effects of our destructive development plans of the recent past, that continues even today – is cause for concern. Centuries old trees that have been our source of shade & oxygen, are being chopped mercilessly by unscrupulous authorities. S.V. Road & many inner connecting roads in Bandra, Khar & Santacruz are losing their green cover – the natural lungs of our local areas, that have vehicular traffic continuously spewing toxic exhaust into the environment, polluting it. Waste is being burned at various dumps, adding carbon dioxide and toxins to the air that we breathe – increasing lung infections. Chemical waste & sewage is being

dumped close to our shoreline – causing grave damage to marine life. Beyond CCD, towards Danda on the Carter Promenade – the foul smell is unbearable, when the tide comes in. The situation is similar in some spots on the Bandstand Promenade. The extreme heat waves we witness today, is a result of our wrong actions in the recent past – causing climate change. Even as we celebrate ‘World Environment Day 2017’, to create awareness – let each one of us pledge to do our part, however small - to save our precious environment, before it is too late. Let’s grow more trees, while nurturing the trees that we already have. Till then, take care. Regards, Merck N. D’Silva Editor-in-Chief DISCLAIMER: The opinions expressed in this paper, are of the authors - and do not reflect the opinion of the publishers and editors, unless otherwise stated. Letters to the Editor PROMENADE URINAL SPOT PERFECT Bandra celebrities have objected to installation of toilet at the promenade facing their seaside flats because the stink from the urinals will enter their air-conditioned rooms. They don’t mind if all this sort of nonsense is farther away at Behrampada or on the railway tracks. They also forget one important point that the promenade is now an active spot for joggers, walkers, cyclists, yoga addicts, body muscle building honchos & retirees. No ‘Nap baap ka maal’ here, please. This is our land, this is our Mumbai. If the stench is unbearable to seaside residents, there are better places to relocate at Nalasoppara or Kopar Khairane where the air is always fresh. And most importantly day & night zombies stand outside their flats & keep starring, at the windows as if some Goddess is about to come out from the heavens and bless them. The urinal with attendant provided by BMC at the allotted site for the young & elderly is ideal & convenient for the users of the promenade. Will those opposing it provide relief in their urinals for the public exercising their bodies? No, obviously not, so let the BMC carry on with its good work. Amar Singh AUTO RICKSHAW MENACE Trust me when I say this, I’m done. Done, feeling sorry for you and your clan. Your harassment towards your daily commuters has shown no signs of going away now.

You rejected to aide me and my mother who was barely able to stand due to a medical emergency, just because the fare was too less. Since when did having a three figure fare become so important? How on earth did your work ethics reach this new level of disgust? You’re having a unhealthy competition in the market, yes. Only you’re to be blamed for that. Your competitors do not reject fares, and nor do they make you plead on a crowded street. Your constant protests won’t help. You don’t deserve it. Wait, did I hear you say that your living conditions are next to hell? Well, that really ain’t the fault of your daily commuters now, is it? We all are frustrated with our lives and how the people in power don’t do shit about making things better. Stopping to work has never made things better. I’ve grown up in your abode, from paying the ‘10-1’ minimum fare by the meter to currently seeing 18 for a 1.4km travel. Never have you disappointed your passengers as much as right now, since the past few years. Your sister clan, the taxi walas too haven’t made the situation any better. Driving around shamelessly without passengers in and around Mumbai Central, usually hurting one’s hand by not stopping most of the times because the fares do not live up to your expectations. I sincerely hope I took your photograph today. I crave for your vehicle num-

The word ‘money laundering’ is wrong, unless cash transferred offshore by hawala. ED did not unearth any such transactions. Perhaps he could be booked as ‘facilitator’ for shady deals but even that does not pin him down for lack of evidence. It’s all hearsay and rumours. So also it is rumoured often that he collected ‘haftas’ from hawkers on Hill and Bazaar Roads as commission for protection from authorities. Being MHADA Chairman does not mean sitting on chair with table conducting whole business all on his own. MHADA has large staff to process and evaluate documents, scrutinise and double check, verify and inspect properties, ascertain legalities and pronounce judgments. It is not the first time he has courted controversy. In a checkered career spanning two decades, he has dogged many issues and survived all along, but this sudden announcement by the ED, has shaken up the whole constituency prompting to ask what next? With the writing on the wall all clear, it will be a hard task for him to contest the next election due in 2019. At one point he steadfastly defended the demolition of the Cross at the junction of Chapel & Waroda Roads and called the dogs off for which the Catholic community is grateful. While the same may not be true in the case of a century old Cross which was recently uprooted while our new elected representatives stood gaping, blowing hot and cold air more for TV cameras and the media, seeking publicity for themselves. MHADA’s ex-Chairman will also have to forget grand Iftar party he held last year at Taj Land’s End. It got him enough publicity to be front runner at the party’s disgruntled lot in Mumbai politics. But those will remain as dreams because in Maharashtra ‘Marathi Manoos’ does the talking. Whether ED opens up can of worms with more sensational disclosures or whether he once again manages to douse fires and free himself from the shackles of investigation, time will only tell. How Muslims observe ‘Eid in Bandra’

Muslims offer Eid ul-Fitr prayers outside Bandra Station

‘Eid al-Fitr or Ramzan Eid’ marks the end of fasting month. Muslims in Bandra usually go for ‘Eid Shopping’ in the last week of Ramzan. On the day of Eid, Muslims get up early in the morning, dress up in their best clothes, apply attar (perfume) & go to the masjid or places where special arrangements are made for Eid Namaz e.g.: Bandra Jama Masjid, Station Masjid, Rizvi Ground, Almeida Park - to name a few. Eid Namaz is held after Namaz-e-Fajar (1st morning prayer) We also have to share a certain amount of money with the poor/needy, before we perform our Eid Namaz which is called ‘Fitra’ (Charity). The same is calculated as per the count/number of family members at home. The first namaz for Eid ul-Fitr starts at 7am in Bandra & the last starts at around 9am. Special arrangement for traffic and police bandodast is given around where Eid Namaz (prayers) are held. Bandra Police station is always on high alert - so the Eid Namaz is performed peacefully. Roses are distributed by local Muslims to the Bandra Police staff to spread the message of love peace and harmony.

After the offering: Namaz-e-Eid ul-Fitr Local Bandra muslims hug and greet fellow muslims ‘Eid Mubarak’. Many muslims visit local cemeteries near Gaiety and Naupada, Bandra East to offer prayers for their dear ones, who have departed - asking Almighty Allah to forgive their sins and grant them Jannat (Heaven). Many head towards home after Eid ulFitr namaz, to greet their family members and neighbours. Special sweets like seviyan and sheer khurma, which is specially made on Eid is distributed among families, friends and among non-muslim neighbours. Children are given ‘Eidi’ (a small token in cash) as a blessing by elders family and friends. In the afternoon, special food is prepared or ordered for lunch & the full family joins in. Later in the evening, local Bandra muslims visits their relatives in or outside Bandra. Many go for outings to malls, parks, food courts etc. - to spend some quality time together. May Almighty Allah bless you all. Wishing every one ‘Happy Ramzan Eid 2017’. Irfan Ibrahim Shaikh

World Environment Day a great success for the Bhamla Foundation The naturally scenic sunset at the Arabians & the wide open sky, was the perfect backdrop to an event that promoted awareness about our environment. The youth were very evident, full of energy – cycling along Carter road, entertaining the audience with their dance steps and sending social messages across with their meaningful skits. Cutting across political lines and categories, Asif Bhamla had invited all politicians, ALM heads, celebrities, public officials, police, etc. Some spoke from their heart and vibed well with the audience. Kubra & Meraj were great comperes.

Our local MLA Adv Ashish Shelar was the ‘Green Crusader’ at the World Environment Day 2017 event held at Carter Promenade Amphitheatre, opp. Café Coffee Day. Among the foreign dignitaries, was Derk Segaar – Director of the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, presently based in New Delhi. The imitation of some of our local Bollywood actors, by young performers - was hilarious. Chaka Chak Bandra’s dramatic portrayal of how young girls are molested by groups in unsafe areas was just superb. Karishma Kapoor was very outspoken

with her message on environment. Jackie Shroff & Chunkey Pandey were at their humourous best. We had a male dancer who danced to a famous tune – in spite of being deaf and dumb!

NGO ACTIVITIES: The Bhamla Foundation proudly announced the launch of their website: bhamlafoundation.org which has been created as a platform for the youth to engage with their ‘Young Eco Champs’. They also launched a membership drive for all their followers, who would like to be associated with the Foundation. In recent weeks, the foundation has been promoting planting of trees across Bandra and her surrounding suburbs, involving celebrities like Sanjay Dutt, H-West Ward Assistant Municipal Commissioner Sharad Ughade and other active NGOs.
