LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE IN STYLE For all of us Bandraites, after a long day of toiling at work, all we want is to get to the comfort of our homes. Just getting to the cozy atmosphere within the four walls of our home and dropping into the more than comfortable couch relaxes our minds immensely. Most of the time being overlooked, the lighting in our homes plays a huge part in determining our moods. Lights that is more intense and glaring that hits the eye may not make you feel as much at peace as a more subtle softer light that is more calming and relaxing. It is then that you realize that you would be better off with something that can alter the mood of your surroundings - maybe a lampshade! A lampshade is almost always able to set the right mood and light the room correctly. Moreover, the right lampshade compliments the room and adds a new elegant dimension to the otherwise ordinary living room or bedroom. Putting together the right combination from colour, type and size in the lighting of your home, can completely transform the ambience & atmosphere of your rooms & make them much more comfortable & welcoming. For close to 70 years now, Kapoor Lampshades India's largest and oldest lighting company as also a pioneer in the industry - has been setting the mood with its lighting solutions for many homes as well as top hotels and has become a name that is synonymous with excellence and luxury. Kapoor, the brand has, in most of its creations, incorporated the unmatched and spectacular skill of Indian craftsmen in its traditional, more contemporary designs as well as in its emerging designs. Ranging from the eclectic to the absolute extravagant, these masterpieces of Kapoor Lamp-

shades could instantly transform the interior of your home into a stylish and grand place to unwind in. The company has grown from strength to strength acquiring the numero uno position in lighting especially in chandeliers which are still the bench mark of prestige. The company has evolved over the years embracing a wide variety of contemporary lighting - modern, chic and

stylish - all with levels of luxurious opulence with the focus remaining on creating happy customers. fices prefer 'Kapoor' as their choice when it comes to designing their lighting plans. Alert ALM 102 exposes BMC’s shoddy work of reinforced concrete drain on St. Paul Road Will Corporators Asif & Karen get the incorrect work RE-DONE correctly? Around the start of November, the BMC started working on the west side of St. Paul Road, to help the decades-old flooding issue get resolved. In an otherwise superb neighbourhood, monsoon flooding is one major issue – especially at high tide. Rain water from Pali Hill comes via Anthony Garage to St. Paul Road and then to the ‘Khalla’ – towards Chimbai, into the sea. Any blocked drain, will impede the immense flow and flood the areas. After digging, the reinforced concrete walls were built – and only then, did alert ALM members realise that the shoddy ongoing BMC work would soon crumble, due to the side pressure from continuous heavy traffic – especially large buses & water tankers. Municipal Corporators Karen & Asif visited the site and interacted with knowledgeable neighbouring residents, to find out what exactly was wrong. Contd. on Page 8 >>

Pets are part of Christmas celebrations at ‘Capricorn Pets’

This Christmas, we has a new and very unique ‘Pet Shop’, that claims to be the best destination to ‘Pamper Your Pets’ – right here in the heart of Bandra – very near Jogger’s Park. You can visit this store, to see some of their pets on display – all dressed up for the ‘season of joy’. The accessories on offer are incredible. If you are an animal lover, your visit here would surely be worthwhile. You could start the New Year, adopting a pet of your choice – and enter an amazing new world of possibilities – caring & sharing life. Hey, let’s spread peace & goodwill all around. We asked Bobby Wankhede, an 18 year young entrepreneur & the store proprietor, to tell us something about himself. He told us, “I used to rescue stray dogs, cats, etc. – even when I was a child. I used to get them home, give them a bath and keep them for some days. I loved doing this. Walking down any street in Bandra, dogs and cats used to come to me and I would just hug them. Their instinct told them I was an animal lover.” How did you think of pets as a business? Although I was an engineering student, I did not find it interesting. My true calling was to be involved with pets. I never was job-oriented. I always wanted to have my own business. So, to pursue my passion and make a profit from it, I started ‘Capricorn’. My passion for pets from a very young age is what got me here. Why call it Capricorn? It is a long story. Here is a brief. The person from whom I bought my dream dog – his kennel in London was known as ‘Capricorn’s Poms Kennel’. That was when I

thought ‘Capricorn’ was a very interesting name. Guess what... even my pet dog’s sign is a Capricorn. So, as it sounded nice and catchy, the name stuck. What is your USP? All Under One Roof: - The most unique thing is my pets. I have ‘Chihuahuas’ – the smallest breed in the world, with size variations. Their sizes are from two to three inches in height when young – and they grow to about 5 inches maximum. A mother gives only one puppy at a time, so these breeds are very exclusive. Our Toy Poms are less than 1.2 kgs. The larger breeds are the Alaskan Malamute, New Found Land, etc. - In accessories (mostly imported), we have bird diapers, tents and t-shirts. For dogsafety, we have seat belts. Many other products that we have are very exclusive, yet

useful for your pets. - In spas, we have body massages for dogs & cats, with medicated baths for healing of bacterial infection, ticks & fleas. For a better look, we have bows, clips, collars, etc. - to be used after grooming. - In bird services, we do nail & wing clippings. We only clip their secondary wings, so that they cannot fly. You wouldn’t want your extremely expensive Macaw Parrot to just fly away? These clippings are only done on specific days (Sundays), as we have a specialist; who are professionally trained, coming here on those days. - Our pet food range is wide. We have imported brands like Royal Canine, Arden Grange, Euro Premium, Smart Heart, Eukanuba, Fiddle, Drools, Purepet, Focus etc. - and cat food like Meow, Whiskers, Arden Grange, Drools, Sheba, Bellotta, etc. Our Indian brand is Pedigree – in their profes-

sional and regular range. - Our services include pet breeding, pet training, pet grooming and dog walker services. - Our FREE adoption service for rescued stray cats & dogs. Any special Christmas & New Year offers? Yes, anybody making a single bill of Rs 6,000 or more for any of our products, will get a FREE grooming session for their pet. Also, anybody adopting a pair of dogs from the same breed, would get a FREE basket full of accessories. Any plans in the pipeline? Once I am set here, I have plans to start another outlet in South Mumbai. Also, I am working towards keeping medicines for pets – so that people can have easy access – anytime. If your pet is ill at night, it’s an emergency; so we have plans to help pet owners. And I plan to write some books on pet care, from my personal practical experiences. On an ending note, Bobby told us that even if his store was open 24 x 7, he would not feel bored or tired. His enthusiasm is infectious. In fact he does not feel this is “work”. It is pets, pets, pets... and then more pets. What a way to live your passion! You can contact Bobby at: Capricorn Pets, Shop # 3, Jal Darshan, Chimbai Road, (off Perry Cross Road) Bandra (W), Mumbai-400 050 E-mail: suyog.wankhade@yahoo.com FB: Capricorn Pets Mumbai Buy online: capricornpetstore.com

Mount Carmel’s ‘Christmas Charisma’ gave parishioners to exhibit their talents The Carmel Cultural Committee spearheaded by Fr. Reuben Tellis put their heads together to organise Christmas Charisma a festival of zonal choirs performing carols and a bazaar of Christmas sweets, decorations, food stuffs and accessories. Fr. Reuben said ,"The idea behind Christmas Charisma stemmed from the desire to see the communities of the parish participate in a festival and not a competition, bringing a variety of their members on stage - children, youth, adults and senior citizens. And indeed they all rose to the occasion and collaborated well to create the spirit of Christmas. It was a joy to see the colour and the enthusiasm of everyone on stage. The Christmas Bazaar was organised to give our home-grown entrepreneurs an opportunity to sell their products and get some publicity. Overall, it was an experience of absolute excitement to see the Church grounds substantially full and the parishioners enjoying the performances." The spirit was infectious all around the quadrangle. The sales picked up as the

morning progressed. In the evening there was a surprise visitor Santa Claus who was not just sporty when it came to dancing and doing the moves but also super entertaining.

Can’t deny the fact that the choirs took the cake. What an evening children, youth, ladies and gents and even senior citizens on stage singing with one voice. The Christmassy colours and the spirit exhibited the

camaraderie that is the basis of activities in communities. The idea was to eliminate the spirit of competition and usher in the spirit of oneness and love everywhere. Elaine D’Souza

Olio 2017 - Time Will Tell The inter-collegiate drama festival hosted by St. Andrew’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce - ‘Olio’ has proved time and again that it is a benchmark-setter for budding theatre talent. A launchpad for eager minds daring to create a world of their own with impressive writing and acting skills, the festival is the cradle of young theatre excellence from across Mumbai. Raising the bar ever higher with each year, Olio is now taking a moment to look through the pages of the past and focus on one paramount aspect of life - the concept of time. An ever-constant, change-inducing, irreversible force, time is central to performing arts such as theatre. Setting boundaries for scriptwriters and directors alike, time stands firm as a force that can’t be toyed with. However, at Olio 2017, that will change. Playing with the theme “Time Will Tell,” the platform will let you twist and mould time to suit your needs. With a theme like that, the festival is sure to pose as both a daunting challenge and a ripe opportunity to showcase your creative side. To lay the foundation for Mumbai’s biggest college level drama contest, we brainstormed our way to formulating a theme, forming a core committee and setting a schedule - taking great pride in every moment of the process. With determination, we held our CL meeting on November 19th - the first step in our journey. The meeting, hosted by our President, Antoinette D’souza, PR head, Kimi Mahpankar and Filler Head, Darshan Suratwala, saw several interested colleges bringing forward their representatives. The day was even lit by a live act from the filler team on campus, followed by an introductory address by

our organising committee, and a detailed presentation of Olio's timeline, and rules and regulations for participant colleges. The next step in our Olio journey was an in-house audition for plays and fillers held in the AV room of St. Andrew’s college on 21 November. Our Play Head Devon Saxby, Filler Head Darshan Suratwala and President Antoinette D’souza presided over this crucial stage. Another interesting stop on our Olio road was the “Writer’s Lab” workshop on professional scriptwriting that was held on 28th November 2016, by the Olio team in association with Metamorphosis Theatre Inc. Conducted by the playwright, director and founder of Metamorphosis Theatre Inc., Prof. Omkar Bhatkar, the workshop consisted of interesting brain exercises and a telling sharing of experiences of Prof. Bhatkar. The professor took interested students through the process of framing thoughts into art on the stage. But more importantly, he spoke powerfully about the role time plays in plot changes, and how it decides the ‘karma’ of characters. Needless to say, Prof. Bhatkar’s words enthused participants, imbuing them with confidence, positive energy and motive to go beyond general expectations. Finally, our much-anticipated eliminations took place on 8 December, in the ever-grand St. Andrew’s auditorium. Making the occasion even grander was the presence of our esteemed judges, theatre notables Ms. Bageshri Joshirao, Mr. Saattvic and Mr. Omkar Bhatkar. Critiquing each play with easy expertise, the judges cleared the doubts that lingered in participants’ minds, guided actors and directors

with insightful ideas and suggestions for their journeys ahead, and lastly, pronounced the finalists for Olio 2017. A success, the day saw more than a few happy faces exit the auditorium. Needless to say, our Olio journey thus far has been eventful and altogether memorable. However, it has only just begun. There are still a variety of live acts in the pipeline, gearing up to enthrall audiences at Bandstand and Carter Road. But, most importantly, our final event will attempt to make history on January 5th, 2017. So, save the date as we look forward to having you there. You don’t want to miss the theatre event where you will experience what time has to tell you. Until then, may time always be on your side... Jeanona Dias

EAT OUT

Frisbees: Pushing Burgers around The underground cognoscenti of Bandra have been whispering about slinging activities, comprising of freshly baked bread, dips which mesmerize the palate to the point of intoxication and spicy fries. After penetrating the formidable inner circle of Bandra's epicureans, I arrived at the Columbia of burgers, aka 'Frisbees'. Corniched on Chimbai Road, Frisbees's location enables them to swiftly peddle potent packages of burgers across Bandra, Khar and Mahim. Notoriously known for their wicked b u rge r s , the philosophy followed at this dine in burger joint is simple; 'Frisbees is a no-nonsense fast food enterprise. They

take pride in the food they serve, which is of the highest quality bearing no compromises'. Apart from the burgers which they serve big & messy, they adhere to a stringent quality programme. Fresh ingredients conceive wholesome apparatuses such as juicy burger patties (irrespective if it is a veggie or meat laden burger), disparate dips and essential fillers, all of which artistically fulcrum on the house baked seductive bun (pun). Constantly reinventing their burgers, patrons of Frisbees relish the choices bestowed upon them as much as they do the food. A new menu which makes the burger battle

unbiased between meat and vegetarian options, heralds a dawn of exciting new avenues for vegetarians, a veg. bacon burger made completely out of cheese is good enough to seal the deal. The complimentary spicy fries are prepared from scratch in house and the shakes make for an endearing sugar induced expression of affection. Constant validation along their journey, such as opening their second outlet in Bandra last year after their debut in Andheri in the year 2014 operating as a takeout joint

and a third soon to be launched sit down affair in Andheri cements the fact that the team at Frisbees is taking their burger peddling business seriously. Future plans include dishing out healthy sandwiches, perfectly rolled rolls and more side dishes. Proverbial in nature is the saying which states 'Don't get high on your own supply'. Thus the peddler is restricted and famished, but it works out wonderfully for the user. So make the most of the festive season and indulge in unadulterated food high. Stubborn BMC Contractors continue shoddy job at St. Paul Road Inspite of an alert ALM 102 pointing out the mistakes made in getting the drain line done in reinforced concrete on the west side of St. Paul Road – an extremely high traffic street in Bandra; stubborn BMC Contractors are going ahead – as if they do not care. They seem to have enough influence to get paid, even if the job is not done right. It is a royal mess. Charles Simeos, a resident next to the job work, who is an expert in the RCC field, with tons of practical experience, told us, “Today’s concreting in front of Anica at 3pm, I saw concrete being poured in a deep pool of water. I stopped them and made them dewater, with a pump. After dewatering, it was still not go & no uniform layer. I told them that additional water is harmful to concrete, before it sets; as it reduces the strength & durability of the reinforced concrete. What is being done is just not right. I have received the specifications & BOQ. Specifications for the road are detailed. However, there are no specifications for the drain trench which is presently being constructed. I have noticed a basic

mismatch in the concrete strength between the BOQ & the drawing of the drain When meetings are held with the local residents and Corporators, the Contractors & Supervisors just nod their heads. Next day, it is back to square one. Drain covers are removed. Light poles are uprooted, without any alternate arrangement for street lighting – and senior citizens are badly affected. Dark areas invite crime. No proper supervision. No co-ordination with utility services. This is the impact of corruption, at our doorstep. This is shameful. Waste of public money – right under our nose and can we imagine areas where the ALMs or residents are not so vigilant? Our local elected representatives i.e. Municipal Corporators need to be more firm in dealing with such issues – with corrective action. Also, those who decide which contractor will get the job and those who finally release their payments. In this case, will they make sure that the job is done correctly? Time will tell. A Community Christmas If the spirit of Christmas does exist, it certainly was on Convent street at Carols 2016!

It isn’t particularly difficult to find a cheerful spot in Bandra this season! But in true style of organising a spectacular evening without much of a fuss from event managers, sponsors or talent, Bandra Carols 2016 stands out! Carols 2016, an annual street event was an amazing evening that witnessed a genuine effort of good will, community sharin & the true spirit of Christmas. Organised by the residents of Convent Street & the neighbouring streets this year, it was sim-

ply yet beautifully decorated with seating for all the elderly in the area & an impressive number of children from NGO’s. The performances by artists who had either grown up in Bandra or spent a significant amount of time influenced by all the customs, came back to entertain the crowd. The line-up included performances by children from St. Catherine’s Home, Divya Darshanand a star studded list of artists including Marie Paul, Chelsea Das, Sanam Ghodbole, Siddharth Meghnani, Chanelle

Ferreira, Dominique Cerejo, Merlin D’souza, Nicola & many more. Rajiv & Prithi enthralled the audience with their ethnic version of carols & Uday Benegal made it a point to keep his commitment to the cause with a beautiful rendition of Silent Night. We also had the Jona Domi Choral Ensemble, 16 kids ranging from 8 – 13 years of age enthralled our audience. The evening marked the beginning of a beautiful season & boxes for the collection of toys, books & clothes will remain on the

street for anyone wanting to support the less privileged. The organising committee not just reflected the very meaning of Christmas with gifts & treats for the children from the NGO’s & warm soup & sandwiches for our silver guests who faithfully attend to not only capture the Christmas spirit of the years gone by but also maintain that this spirit will live on in Bandra. A brief history of our airport – what’s in a name, anyway? On December 12th 2016, TOI reported that the name of our international airport was being changed yet again, albeit a slight tweak. In the present climate and trend of name changes in our city, I guess this was all but inevitable. However, most of us have lost count of the times the airport has gone through mutations of names and mutilations of terminals. Built by the British in the suburb of Santacruz circa 1942, and operated as "RAF Santacruz" during WWII, the airport was Bombay's second, after Juhu (incidentally, not many realise that Juhu was India's first airport). After independence, the airport was converted to civil use, and known simply as “Santacruz airport”, neutrally named after the suburb in which it was located. As a career aviator, decorated two-war hero, and airline pilot, my late father flew Indian Air Force Douglas DC-3s and Antonov An-12s out of Santacruz in the '50s & '60s; and later Air India Boeing 707s and 747s out of Santacruz in the '70s and '80s. If one thing remained constant for most of his career, was the name of the airport he was flying out of. In the early '80s, a new international terminal was built, called "Sahar International airport". It should be noted that Sahar was not a new airport, but rather a new terminal of the same (Santacruz) airport. It was erroneously called "Sahar airport" since. And so began the name confusion. However, there was clear demarcation of "Domestic airport" and "International airport" in those days. Sadly over time, the airport lost it's identity as "Santacruz airport" - it was referred to as “Bombay old airport" and " Bombay new airport". To this day, when I travel to the city of my birth, it always puts a smile on my face when at some departure gate in a distant land, I see “Bombay” (recently seen at Paris) as the destination airport. In the late '90s, when we lost "Bombay" to "Mumbai", the confusion was further compounded. New terminals at the "new airport" and "old airport" were built over

time, and the international airport was renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA). Thus ended the legacy of "Santacruz airport". At present, there is yet more confusion, as many domestic flights depart from the "International airport", to

the chagrin of many a traveler, and a move that defies logic. As my father and many aviators of his generation opined, if the airport *had* to be renamed, it ought to have been renamed after J.R.D. Tata, India’s first pilot, and a

man who did more for Indian aviation than anyone else. However, we all know how politics work, especially in the times we find ourselves in. Debasish Chakraverty

Letters to the Editor ‘CHRISTMAS CHEER’ & DEMONETISATION DEMON The government’s ill-planned drive against black money will not be successful – as it has targeted 6% of the problem and made 94% of innocent people suffer. This is just a diversionary tactic, to be on the offensive; so that common people do not get the time to think and go against ministers who are rapists and murderers. Today, people may be on a defensive mode, but there is a limit to everything. Imagine – telling us what we should eat, what we should drink, how should we dress, how much money we can spend, how much gold we can have, how many houses we can have. Next, it will be – how much air we can breathe. This government which has made us suffer and stand in line – because of their desire to control us; will be booted out in the upcoming elections. Wait and watch. The demonetisation demon will hit back hard. Yakub Sayed SHODDY BMC JOB CALM 102 is indeed alert to point out the shoddy BMC drain job. When I drive on St. Paul Road to reach my place on Carter Road, I see the work going on for more

than a month – without much progress. Are our elected representatives playing a game on us, to get visibility just before elections? Can we let these scam contractors go scot free? Lets unite and show them that people’s power can overcome any corrupt system Mahesh Kulkarni ASTRO TURF NEWS It would be great if your esteemed publication gives us some sports reports of what happens at the St. Andrew’s Astro Turf Grounds. I always see a lot of activities going on and getting a chance to read it is what I am looking forward to. I am sure this will make interesting reading. A ‘HAPPY NEW YEAR’ Dear Reader, It is December in Bandra – and Santa is already here. Well, it is the most wonderful time of the year, with Christmas Carols heard everywhere, spreading the eternal message of peace & joy. Hill Road is all HoHo-Ho! – with winding lanes that connect to exciting outlets, where you can bargain for a better deal. Linking Road is all lit up with the latest stuff – and is great for shopping, provided you have not been hit by the ‘demonetisation demon’. The air seems lighter. Family reunions are happening right now, with a lot of bonhomie & beverages, that add to the zing – that builds up to a crescendo around New Year. The cool mornings and evenings are just the right setting for social settings. Yes, these days are filled with events, events and then more events – most of them more entertaining than the other, often subtly sponsored by political parties, in the guise of their NGO’s name. And then, there are meetings with ulterior motives – that add to the defection spree that is usual before any election. BMC elections have many more contest-

ants, so there are much more changing equations, when politicians switch-over to another party – taking most of their followers along. Bandra, Khar & Santacruz has seen switchovers recently and this trend seems to be on the rise. Bandra Buzz – your favourite neighbourhood newspaper is six years young – this month. We’ve grown from a monthly to a fortnightly. With your solid support and solid confidence of our advertisers, who’ve experienced their business grow – we are moving forward from strength to strength. You can expect some surprises as 2017 enfolds. Ok, let’s go straight to the point – easier access, much more local info & interaction. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas, with lots of cheer throughout the New Year – and beyond. Till next year, take care.

POLITICS

Congress party defections on the rise

Stephen Noronha (L) alongside Adv. Ashish Shelar switches from Congress to BJP

Umer Solanki (C) alongside Asif Bhamla switches from Congress to NCP

With growing political activities at a feverish pace, caused by the upcoming BMC elections; Mumbai North Central is witnessing a rise in defections from the Congress party to the BJP, Shiv Sena & NCP. Prominent among them are Stephen Noronha from Bandra (w) & Umer Solanki from Santacruz. This time many ward boundaries have been changed. This is creating new equations – with newer result consequences. We spoke to them and got some interesting inputs, about their reasons for moving and change party loyalties.

never in politics and came after me, have become corporators. So, I feel that Congress has not valued my many years of service and approached Adv. Ashish Shelar – Mumbai BJP Chief.

Savio Miranda’s take: “Stephen Noronha was a grass root Congress worker, who has given 28 years of his life for the party. His leaving the Congress & joining BJP is a big blow to the Congress in Bandra.

the major corruption problems. I am quite popular with my Rajasthani community, so my vote bank is assured – with a lot of backing. I hope to serve the people and improve conditions in Ward 97.

Adv. Ashish Shelar’s take: “We observed that Stephen Noronha is doing a lot of social work for the good of the local community – in line with Modi’s guidelines for ‘good governance’. Surely, he has a lot of potential to do much more. Yet, Steven is being denied his due recognition and bypassed by inexperienced juniors. We welcome him to the BJP and will see that his capabilities are given a chance to grow. Stephen is a good young candidate with his long political experience, attitude of loyalty and longing to help others and hopefully will have a bright future here.

We asked a knowledgeable uncle (who wants his identity hidden), his take, “If Steven gets a ticket in Ward 101, he will win, as he has the support of many people.

Asif Bhamla’s take: “As the BMC Election approaches, we normally see a lot of helter skelter between party workers. As far as Umer is concerned, I knew he was a very capable worker in the Congress party over the years. Internally whatever were his issues, I was not aware of, nor would I like to go into it. On an individual level, when he approached me, saying that he would like to join the party (NCP); he told me that he believed in my leadership and that of Hon. Sharad Pawar. Umer has been inducted initially on a position with the NCP and I wish him good luck. Now that he has been nominated, we look forward to see him serve the people of Santacruz.

SWITCH FROM CONGRESS TO BJP Stephen Noronha: “I have learned a lot under Sir Oliver Andrade - when I joined Congress and I am grateful to him as my mentor. I have been with the Congress for 28 years. Now, I have switched over to BJP, immediately bagging the post of Bandra Taluka – Vice President. This will be oďŹƒcially declared at the Bandstand amphitheatre event (Shillong Choir) on 22nd December 2016. No party ticket for the upcoming BMC election has been promised, but a good future, very soon. The reason I have switched over is because every time I am being denied of a ticket to contest – and those who were

Adv. Joe Sodder’s take: “The Catholic vote has helped to tilt the scales for the BJP – to make Adv. Ashish Shelar win as the new MLA. So, now he needs to give key Bandra tickets, to the best Catholic candidate, to represent their community. In the past, the Congress won with the support of Catholic votes, but did nothing in return.

SWITCH FROM CONGRESS TO NCP Umer Solanki: “I did not ďŹ nd any future in Congress. There was too much pressure & bossy behaviour. I liked the ideology of NCP’s District President Asif Bhamla - and speciďŹ cally Hon. Sharad Pawarji. After carefully observing how NCP operated, I took a call and decided to join this party. On joining, I got the post of North Central District – Gen. Secretary. Now, I plan to contest from Ward 97 (Santacruz), as I have very good co-ordination and support from the locals of this area. Today, they are facing a lot of problems – in terms of BMC issues, redevelopment builders, etc. I know the pain of these locals at grass root levels. Basically, I have the pulse of the people. If I am given a ticket – and win; I will surely help to resolve

With this uid political scenario, we can expect to see a lot of surprises in the coming months. If these changes are for the common good of citizens, then it is too good to be true. Let’s hope that this BMC election, heralds a new chapter in our lives. Jasvir Kakad

8 choirs of angelic voices sang at Christmas Choral Contest 10th December 2016 was a day marked in the history of St. John Bosco Church (SJBC) as the day of Celebration of Choral Music. The sound of angelic voices singing Christmas Carols soared across the SJBC premise, as 8 choirs across the city of Mumbai had gathered to compete & witness the grandest spectacle this side of town had ever seen. The Christmas Choral Contest - 1 was created to delight and inspire audiences with performances of choral works under the guidance of Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Aloysius Furtado. This gala night was graced by Chief Guest Mrs. Rita D’Sa, President of the Bombay Catholic Sabha , and the contest was judged by stalwarts of choral music Fr. Flovi D’Souza (Principal, Don Bosco), Mr. Kevin D’Souza & Mr. Conrad D’Sa.

It was a perfect setting and the audience was ready for an audio visual treat. The performances were flawless and all well timed. It was incredibly inspiring to experience the artistry that dedicated people can create when they raise their voices together. It was a packed event with over 1000 people gathered purely to enjoy music & the spirit of Christmas. In parallel to the Choral Contest there was also a “Star Making Contest”. It was a tight competition as the 8 choirs continued to work their magic on the audience for more than two hours. They had been preparing for this event judiciously for months and now it was time to lock horns and contest for the Title. The 34- strong choir of St. Michaels Church Choir, Mahim were declared winners of the prestigious title taking home Rs. 20,000/-,

St. Andrew's participates in the Christmas Choral Contest at Don Bosco’s Matunga after beating 7 choirs from across Mumbai. These two winning choirs showcased “Pure Magic” & let the audience experience the many types and methods of choral music, truly setting unmatched standards for SJBC’s first Christmas Choral Contest. St. Andrew´s Parish choir from Bandra also participated in the contest. Felix Aranha
