This book was made not only to show my process for the semester in Experience Design but to also show the victories and frustrations I had in class.

*Not trying to be mean about it, just keeping it real.

This class required us to think of something that someone does in real life and find a way to make it more enjoyable in a virtual experience. Right away I knew I wanted to do something with video games, I just didn’t know what. I broke it down to what I enjoyed about them. With some feedback, I decided to work with LAN Parties. A LAN (Local Area Network) party is a gathering of gamers and non gamers where people bring computers or consoles and play and eat and enjoy each other. Unknown to me, this also would change as we got more into the semester.

So LAN Parties it was. Then it was time to start breaking down what happens at ones of these parties. The model you see on the right page is a quick breakdown to what goes into a LAN party. Once presented to the class, it was decided that more information was needed, that an instance in time needed to be captured. More was needed.

LAN PARTIES People show up. Start to set up. Games start. Small snacks eaten.

While working on the third model, I decided that tournaments play a big part of LAN parties so I started working with that rather than the whole party. The first two model that goes into tournament are more about the games Rockband and Halo. The one on the right page is just about a 32 player -足 8 Bands tournament. All the rules and information for the tournament is seen here as well.

As you can see, my first UI wasn’t a pretty one. It didn’t look like anything that belonged near an Xbox 360 but it did help me figure out exactly what needed to go into the final UI. The two main things I wanted to go into this was chat and a live feed of the game going on. At first I wanted all this to be viewable on one screen but later on, I see that doesn’t work.

Final UI Fin Final UI al UI Final Final UI F U Fina Final Fina UI Fin al UI F nal UI Final Final UI U F Final UI inal UI Fina Final UI Fi Final Final UI U Fin inal UI Fina Final Final Final UI U inal UI Fi Final UI Final UI Fin F Final U Final UI Final UI Final UI Final UI Fina

This is what the final UI would look on the 360. The tournament part would have it’s own channel which would be assessable from the dashboard. From here, you can see what game is being played, a live game stream, the tournament bracket, information about the tournament, and options. In the now playing screen you wouldn’t be able to select anything, it’s there to show you what tournament you are playing.

Live Live Game Game Stream Stream Live LiveGame GameStream Stream

The idea for the live game stream is that someone that wasn’t playing during the time could watch the other bands play. This would be a full screen view. On the top right, it gives you some information to the band playing, the song being played, and who is next. Also on this screen, you can see who is also watching on the left side. On the bottom would be a text chat for those people that don’t have a microphone. These could all turned off by hitting down on the D-pad for the text chat and left on the D-pad for the player list.

Tournament Tournament Bracket Bracket Tournament Bracket Tournament TournamentBracket Bracket

The tournament bracket screen is just that. This gives you a full view of the bracket and standing of each band. Here the round that is being played, round 2 is brighter than the other ones. That’s to show that it’s where the tournament stands.

Information Information Information Information Information

For the Information part of this, I wanted to make a section where a player could see exactly who is playing, the scores, and a better view of the bracket. The reason for so many colors is because those of the same color are on the same band. That color is also the band color.

Options Options Options Options Options

For the options, I had no idea what types of options I wanted so I made it go into the system options. That’s it.

This project has always been one of my lowest priorities and therefore suffered. I wish it wouldn’t of been that way, but graduation got in the way. If I could go back, I would of done this the way I wanted and not the way I was told. I had a different vision for this project but due to it being a low priority and my lack of caring, it went a different way.
