Student affairs awards of excellence The Student Affairs Awards of Excellence End of Year Reception will be held on Wednesday, May 16 in the Rutgers Student Center from 3-5 pm. This event will celebrate the year’s accomplishments of the Student Affairs division. Please RSVP to BuschDean@echo.rutgers.edu.

Big ideas conference The Big Ideas Conference is this Thursday, May 17th and Friday, May 18th. The conference is for agents of innovation, revolutionaries who are tired of incremental improvements, and guardians of the status-quo. The Big Ideas Conference features content experts delivering TED style talks and a Cool Curators exhibit, which is a hands-on, walk through exhibit of creative programming ideas. Veteran Transition Conference The Office of Veteran and Military Programs and Services invites staff to attend a student veteran conference at Rutgers on Monday, June 11, 2012. The theme for the conference is Veterans Transition: Combat to Campus to Career. The conference will focus on transitioning to campus, PTSD stereotypes, the effectiveness of peer-to-peer counseling, the benefits of hiring a veteran, and how corporations can be more veteran friendly. Eric Shinseki, the Secretary for the U. S. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, has been invited to speak. Conference registration is free and open to all staff, current students, and prospective student veterans.

New course this fall

The Graduate School of Education is opening another new special topics courses this Fall. Please encourage any graduate students you know to consider enrolling in this. Summer Softball League Rutgers Recreation will have a co-ed summer softball league open to all faculty, staff and students. Play begins the week of Monday, June 4th and runs through the beginning of August. Games will be played at University Park (Busch Campus), and there will be 1-2 games/ week at either 6:15 pm or 7:30 pm, Monday through Thursday nights. STUDENT CONDUCT HELPERS The Office of Student Conduct is looking for student affairs professionals wanting to get involved in the conduct process. The office is soliciting individuals to serve as campus advisers, hearing board members, and investigators. Departmental updates

Avani Rana, Senior Student Programs Coordinator, has been appointed as the Pre-Conference Program Co-Chair for the NASPA Knowledge Community - Leadership Programs Leadership Team for 2012-2014. The NASPA Knowledge Communities (KCs) provide an opportunity for NASPA members to access information and resources in a specific subject matter that pertains to the student affairs profession. Don Heilman, Michele Linder, and Vinita Tandon from The Office of Student Legal Services presented “Why College Students Need Lawyers: What Lawyers Need to Know” to a sold out audience of local lawyers at the Cook Campus Center on April 23, 2012. Congratulations to Dr. Don Heilman who earned his Ed. D. this spring in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education.
