Rotunda alexander brodsky moscow, russia

Alexander Brodsky's architecture is a frozen poetry, born from the most simple and often useless things. Brodsky is a poet of the old, sent to the scrap lumber, obsessed with idea of saving the dying world of objects. His work is comparable with the act of erecting numerous mausoleums and columbarium to store our memories. Perm Rotunda incredibly contextual building: its design grew out of doors and windows found in the basement of the local museum. Chalky-white Rotunda echoes with the architecture of River Station and, in fact, is a part of its interior, performed on the street. The location of Rotunda was originally implied not to enjoy the beautiful landscape, as in the case with its prototype – Brodsky’s Rotunda at the festival Archstoyanie, opening the belle vue. In Perm it was particularly important to pay attention to the interior structures of Rotunda, promising passers security and privacy in an agressive urban environment. The doors of Rotunda acts as «doors of perception» or magic portal into a forgotten and past-times wich we have lost once forever.
