CATEXOL™ 1000 SP-MN Superplasticizer for Concrete

Product Description

CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN is an exceedingly efficient superplasticizer which reduces water requirements in concrete up to 30%. CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN produces highly fluid concrete for easier and faster placement. Higher strength concrete is achieved with substantially lower water/cement ratios and maintaining workability. CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN attains the necessary workability in the most difficult placement problems without the use of excess water. CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN is a synthetically manufactured combination of melamine formaldehyde condensate, and other proprietary ingredients. The combined characteristics of the melamine and napthalene condensates provide beneficial concrete performance in a single superplasticizer. CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN is especially designed for horizontal work with improved finishing characteristics.

Recommendations

CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN contains no calcium chlorides. CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN can be used in all types of concrete including plain, reinforced, extruded, precast and prestressed concretes. CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN is especially effective in concrete containing such pozzolanic materials as fly ash, silica fume and slag.

Benefits

• Comparable strength development to low slump concrete.

• Dramatically improved finishing characteristics for flatwork.

• Increased workability. • Easier and faster pumping of concrete with pump pressures reduced as much as 50%.

• Increased volume stability. • Reduced segregation even at high slumps. • Type I cement early strength development is comparable to Type III.

• Greater impermeability. • Improved appearance of architectural concrete.

• Improved resistance to sulfate attack. • Increased strengths at all ages.

Dosage

The recommended dosage range for CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN is 10.0 to 40.0 ounces per 100 lbs. (650 to 2,600 ml/100kg) of cementitious material. Dosage rates vary depending upon the amount of plasticity and/or water reduction desired. Various concrete materials, slump, ambient air temperature, additions of pozzolanic materials, mixing time, and type and brand of cement will affect dosage rates. It is suggested that trial mixes be conducted in order to determine the required dosage for optimum performance with your concrete components.

Directions For Use

CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN can be dispensed into any of the concrete materials except cement, slag or fly ash. For optimum results, introduce CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN toward the end of the mixing process. CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN maintains its superplasticized consistency for up to 90 minutes depending on the environmental conditions. Ambient temperature, transport distance, and jobsite delays may dictate jobsite addition of CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN. The addition of this product at the job site requires thorough mixing at high speed and while increasing the slump, it will most likely also increase the total air content of the concrete. Completing the mixing process with two minutes of mixing at slow speed will minimize the on-site air entrainment. Combining CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN with any other admixture containing Polycarboxylates such as ALLEGRO 122, the DURAFLUX Series, the SUPERFLUX Series, CATEXOL 3000 GP and/or CATEXOL HYDROSENSE, may result in a rapid slump loss. Mixing and transporting equipment should be thoroughly washed between subsequent batches of concrete containing admixtures with Polycarboxylates and CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN.

Applicable Standards

CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN meets or exceeds the requirements of ASTM C 494, Types A and F; and AASHTO M 194, Types A and F.

Storage

CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN should be kept from freezing. If accidentally frozen, its properties can be restored by thawing and thoroughly re-mixing by mild mechanical agitation.

Health and Safety

Refer to the MSDS for additional health and safety information.

Packaging

CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN is supplied in either 55-gallon (200L) drums, 265-gallon (1000L) totes or bulk delivery.

Technical Service

A trained Axim representative is available to assist in the preparation of specifications, and the resolution of concrete problems in the field.

CATEXOL 1000 SP-MN is compatible with other Axim non-polycarboxylates admixtures. However, each admixture should be added separately to the mix.
