An ‘Unrivalled Level Of Facilities’ For Guernsey Health Club & Spa Olympic gold medallist Sally Gunnell was the guest of honour at the launch of the stylish new Health Club and Spa at St Pierre Park Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, Guernsey, part of the award-winning Hand Picked Hotels collection. The former Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth champion enjoyed a work-out in the Health Club & Spa before making a speech at the drinks reception to celebrate the opening, following a £2.5m redevelopment at the hotel, which offers the ultimate environment for fitness and relaxation in a beautiful landscaped setting. The club has been completely reconfigured, incorporating bespoke interiors, the latest technology and an unrivalled level of facilities. A spacious new indoor pool and wet area have been created, with mood LED lighting, an infinity wall and floor to ceiling windows. Two experience showers in shell-shaped cocoons incorporate body jets, essence, soft lighting and overhead rain drencher, perfect for added indulgence. A new sauna, heated by volcanic stones, has been created poolside, with two-tier seating, and with views through privacy glass over the lake and grounds, along with a new steam room offering 100% humidity. The pool and wet areas lead out onto an outdoor decked terrace for stretching and yoga, with a heated spa pool, outdoor shower, sun loungers and seating area, plus food and drink service on

offer to make the most of al fresco dining. Julia Hands, Chairman and Chief Executive, Hand Picked Hotels, said: “We are delighted to have welcomed Sally Gunnell to experience our new Health Club and Spa. This is an outstanding new facility for our members and our hotel guests, combined with the excellent level of service provided by our talented team at St Pierre Park. The £2.5m investment in the Health Club and Spa is part of our £4m investment to date

in St Pierre Park Hotel and our £8m total investment programme in our hotels in the Channel Islands.”

Small But Mighty - The Power Of The Local Trust Demonstrating the power of localism, a small independent leisure trust now has a second site ranked as one of the top performing leisure centres in the UK. Of the more than 650 sites registered with Sport England’s quality scheme Quest, just 12 centres across the whole of the UK have received a rating of outstanding. And two of these are operated by Tonbridge and Malling Leisure Trust (TMLT), which runs three leisure centres on behalf of Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council. Larkfield Leisure Centre in Kent now enjoys this prestigious accolade joining sister site Tonbridge Swimming Pool, which achieved the award in 2015.

The news comes as TMLT celebrates its third anniversary. The achievement is all the more remarkable in a time when many smaller trusts are struggling to compete against mega trusts, some of which operate more than 100 sites. “This is a huge achievement for TMLT. Two of our three leisure centres now form part of a very small group of outstanding ranked sites in the UK. It shows that local trusts can operate the best centres in the sector while staying true to the goal of providing services to meet the needs of their local populations. This success is due to the commitment of everyone involved in the trust and most importantly, the front line staff delivering our services,” said Martin Guyton, Chief Executive of TMLT.
