Apple Hill Farms

The Apple Hill Growers is proud to announce the 60th Anniversary of our association. It all began in 1964, when four local farmers put their heads together to plot a new course for local farms to stay viable after the devastating loss of their main crop, pears, to a disease called ‚“pear blight‚“. Out of this collaboration the concept of Ranch Marketing was born, bringing visitors to the farm to buy products directly from the farmer. They coined the brand name ‚“Apple Hill‚“ to encompass the apple farms in the area for marketing this new concept.

The picture on the cover of this Anniversary publication features Joan Delfino with grandson Steffan in the early 1990s. Joan Delfino embodied the spirit and creativity of the women of Apple Hill in the early years. These women created delicious desserts and preserves featuring fresh fruit to sell in “Bake Shops“ that complemented the fresh fruit sales. Today, several farms are women owned and operated!

The original 16 apple farms in the association has grown to 50 farms that offer not only apples, but stone fruit, vegetables, wine grapes and wine, berries, lavender, pumpkins, bake shops, gift shops, apple cider, hard cider, Christmas Trees, You-Pick, and more! Our farms offer magical wedding venues, overnight stays, and live musicsomething for everyone!

We take great pride in our history and offer you an opportunity to step back in time, if only for a day. Visitors will find their day filled with old-fashioned fun. Grower farms look forward to ensuring your family a day that they will remember.

Hacienda Orchards - Hacienda Orchards is a 10-acre Christmas Tree Farm, founded in 1998, and features rolling, scenic topography. Although it is more labor intensive, we meticulously hand trim every tree for perfect shape and density. This gives our trees a natural appearance and texture. Our eco-friendly farm management ensures that your tree is naturally grown.

The Apple Hill Growers and our individual ranch members believe in giving back to our local community. We focus on the needs of youth in our area by providing resources that cultivate a connection between agriculture, food, and natural resources. Here are just a few of our community projects and partners:

Norma Brubaker Scholarships – Since 1986 Apple Hill Growers have awarded more than 100 scholarships through the Norma Brubaker Scholarship program.

El Dorado County Ag in the Classroom – This local, grassroots, charitable organization provides quality agriculture-related educational resources, programs, and training opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of agriculture in our lives.

Farm Day – These are fun, hands-on field trips where lessons of agriculture and its role in our everyday live. Visit agintheclass-edc.org/programs-resources/farm-day/ for more information.

Apple Hill Harvest Run – This is one of the oldest runs in California. All proceeds of the run directly benefit the students of Camino Union School District. Find out more at applehillrun.org.
